I have just done a house swap in the street i grew up in been on the same estate for a long time....i now live over the road from the letter box i use to play as a little child...back in the mid 70's me and my friend would do the elastic band thingy where we would put the elastic band around the letter box and we would take it in turns and have the bands around our ankles then jump in and out of them.Love this lamp post might give it a hug lol.
That's neat that the box tells who was royalty when the box was installed. In the UK, do you have to put outgoing mail in these boxes or can you put them in your own box and the postman picks it up?
Ted Sowards Hi Ted, here in the UK we put our outgoing post in these boxes which are all over the place and incoming comes through the letterboxes on our front doors. No one has their own boxes here like they do in the US. Interesting how all the different countries do this slightly different. I appreciate you checking this out.
Also, the boxes in rural areas are either fixed to poles or sunk into stone walls, often out of use at certain times because birds like to nest in them.👍
At first , I was taking photos of these pillar post boxes because I found them attractive in the locations they were. Then I slowly realised that they differed in certain ways and had to Google their significance. I’ve managed to comes across most of them with the exception of ER VIII. So my search continues.
Isn't is fascinating how much information is hidden in plain view with these things. I really enjoyed finding out about them. Thanks for watching this.
Of course now HM Queen Elizabeth II has been laid to rest and her eldest son has taken up the baton, so to speak King Charles III although they have said that they aren't going to change the symbol on the Postboxes even though King Charles III has had his own sythe unveiled now. I am sure that in our area they have removed one or two smaller Postboxes.
I believe that all existing postboxes will be kept in place and all new postboxes will include King Charles' scythe, which will be quite strange to see. Many thanks for watching this!
There is. I think they originally had them green so that they wouldn't stick out too much on the street but soon figured out that no one could find them so painted them the red we all know and love today. Many thanks for watching this!
