- It's my first vocal cover, everyone, go easy.😂
Growing up, I wasn't too familiar with Barry's music until my mom played this song in the kitchen one evening. When she asked if I could name the artist, I said, "No, but that's gotta be one of the best voices I've ever heard", and these past few years I've been quite the Fanilow. On more than one occasion, I've been told my singing voice has a very similar timbre to Barry Manilow's, (I'm aware my voice is not as pleasant🥴). Unfortunately, my range is not quite as similar, so as one may have noticed, I lowered the key of the song. I joke with myself that I can almost be considered "Barry Manilower" (haha, it's bad, I know). My mom still considers this her favorite Manilow song, so I wanted it to be the first vocal cover I'd post. Consider this a late, additional birthday present, mom. Love you.😘

So, this is the first time I ever heard anyone sound even remotely similar to Barry. It is the timbre, you are correct. And it's not throughout the entire song, but I catch it here and there. Remember, you don't want to sound like anyone other than yourself, but it's also a great thing to naturally possess a quality that can be compared to Barry's. You sound great. I think that the only thing that might come with experience is phrasing. As a singer myself, I think of the lyrics that are coming up as I'm singing, to help me get an idea of how i want to 'say' the words (no pun intended - 'Say The Words' also happens to be a Manilow song!). Phrasing is very important when the song has meaningful lyrical content. Keep it up! You chose the very best artist to be influenced by.

As your talent continues to develop, work on feeling the meaning. You'll notice deep songs like this are rarely on the radio anymore.

@@stevenholst you should try Even Now. It was one of his lower, slower ballads that really focused on the powerful lyrics 😊. It might play into your lower register that you have concerns about
