To be honest, mappa had the heaviest amount of work to do with this anime. Not only were they animating the final 3 arcs of the series, they had to juggle countless new characters and settings, major world events and emotional beats, but they had to do it all within unreasonable time frames. I have mad respect for them for even putting out the anime in the first place. When the production studio gave their demands for s4 Wit basically said NOPE and left attack on titan for good and it’s honestly heartbreaking.
I’m glad we even got to see the finale of attack on titan in this lifetime thanks to mappa

Mappas Blu-Ray versions of Part 1 and Part 2 really shine, in my opinion. The Blu-Ray releases greatly improved the animation. I know you made this video before Part 3 came out but Part 3 of Season 4 is amazing. Mappa went crazy with that episode. But anyways great video! You got a sub from me!

That Grisha scene... I never even particularly liked attack on titan but that scene is a masterpiece, The music/animation/voice acting all come together so perfectly.

Although i'm not animation expert so please correct me if I'm talking stupid
Would you agree that season 4's part 1 and 2 material is objectively the hardest season to animate and produce compared to previous seasons. Part 1 we have the most number of titan shifters in the series, more complex odm gear designs(on top of the most detailed character designs), and in parts 2's case rumbling and colossal titans, battle of Shiganshina with again most amount of titan shifters, lots of different assets for background for locations (paths, Ymirs past etc.) and again the most detailed character designs in the series for both these parts.
And also considering the amount of time they had for both part 1 and 2 being in my opinion not nearly being enough needed to animate and produce all of these really well to the quality fans expected from wits first two seasons

. creative, complex storyboarding and direction and adaptation
. more refine post production
. having every episode have some consistency of quality character acting and action animation
You're absolutely correct, the only installment of aot that's more difficult to animate than season 4 pt 1&2 is season 4 part 3, which isn't out yet. Prior to s4 I don't think we had more than 3 shifters on screen at best, and yet they had trouble animating reiner and the colossal in season 3 and had to reuse cuts for zeke. I will say the number of odm scenes required in season 4 was less than previous seasons, but the thing is, animating shifters requires far more time than an odm gear scene. Of course the character designs were more complicated as well
@@ProbablyPretentious Thanks for the response ever since the cgi controversy and Mappa hate from the fandom I always had this in my mind getting frustrated on why the fandom can't see that Mappa can't showcase their best efforts or the same amount of quality from wit from season 1 to 2 considering the unreasonable production time especially for part 1 and actually acknowledge that Hayashi and his team producing the quality even if objectively the worst in the series for part 1 in such a short time frame is nothing but impressive and shows their talent and skill is on par with wit since most likely if wit did produce season 4 with the same schedule we would have probably gotten a objectively worse season 4 than mappa

The first part was rushed .while in the second part they had time and that's why it looks better.
The time was roughly around a year for part 2. So it is still surprising

The most recent episode to dateis the only one I'm "happy" with when it comes to Mappa.
I dont for a second blame any animator.. But the leadership who decided to milk money than make a REAL and proud worthy project.

I'm more mad that Mappa is getting better payment than Wit ever did for AOT.
Specifically for Season 2 and 3. I don't know much about Season 1. Wit only ever received money from the Blu-Ray releases I believe, which means they made no money off of merchandise or other sources from AOT. Meanwhile, Mappa, who despite me disliking how they adapt AOT in general, get more in royalties and merch for doing arguably a shittier job than Wit.
Many forget this, but Wit was forced into making Season 3. Season 2's contract had Season 3 in it, meaning that they had no real choice behind it. Season 3 Part 2 only had the better half of a year to be made yet it's bounds and leaps better than anything produced by Mappa. This is why I can't excuse how Mappa's anime looks. Yes, the CGI does look better in the newest episode, but that's because they had months to animate what is essentially 3 episodes.
I cannot stand Mappa taking AOT. They changed it for the worse imo. I also hate the people that say that the art style is more fitting, which is bullshit because Wit has more polished style that was iconic. Also, Season 4 looking less like the manga than Wit's style. Look at the scene where Eren argues with Levi on the roof in Season 3 Part 2, that looks like the manga yet doesn't look like dog shit. Adapting the manga art style was probably the worst decision.
No matter how good some animated segments look, the reason Wit's AOT was special was because it took what would be an otherwise boring manga and transformed it into an epic.
You should've specifically talked about AoT S4 Part 2 too because that's where MAPPA is close to their best. But you focused way too much on the 6th and 7th episode of season 4 part 1.
Season 4 Part 2 was peak AoT in terms of storytelling, animation (a bit questionable) and direction.
Unfortunately part two was only 5 episodes in when I recorded and uploaded this video, so there's only so much I could talk about

It literally does not, those youtube edits sound bad and goofy, it completely lacks a military tone that a "declaration of war" should have, also the track that did play is the same track that played during Levi vs beast titan from season 3, it's not a "MAPPA soundtrack"
