  • Sólheimar is a world renowned sustainable community known for its artistic and ecological atmosphere where about 100 people live and work together. It was founded in 1930 by Sesselja Hreindís Sigmundsdóttir (1902-1974). It is a small village set out in the countryside, characterized by vegetation, open common spaces and buildings that nicely co-exist with the landscape. Sólheimar is blessed with enough space for residential and common housing and there are ideal conditions for outdoor activities in the village, which play a big part in the residents’ health and well-being. The Solheimar community focuses on the growth and development of man and nature. The overarching social goal is to provide individuals of various backgrounds the opportunity to work, live, and socialize.

Thank you for making this!. The Stenning family - my family - Alan, Ingibjorg and their children Daniel and Miriam, lived here from 1962-65. Alan and Ingibjorg worked as helpers with a focus on music therapy. Here is a home movie which shows a little of what Solheimar was like then. Including a brief shot with Sesselja the founder on a day trip coach. czcams.com/video/jUukJaem2SY/video.html

I'm from Brazil and I went to Iceland in 2019. It was an amazing Trip! There was a lot of locations so magical but I couldn't visit because was required a large 4x4. I rented a duster. I would like to visit these places but large 4x4 is so expensive! 11.000 dollar for 30 days! Just Rich people can do it.
