Before retiring I worked as gardener at schools and helped to introduce vegetable gardens. Just 2 simple tips that I had to constantly remind the kids about. It takes about 3 months to grow potatoes and onions about 4 months. So its good to have some planted a few weeks apart. I am currently growing lots of capsicums and egg plants. I love watching what you are doing in your garden.

Careful in Ormoc, I believe it's where the storm surge happened in the early 2000's. Maybe build a cement and sturdy tower just in case? Not that big but tall and sturdy. As a farmer myself, I've tried vertical planting and it triples the yield of harvests for green leafy veggies.

This is the life I really wanted. I am back in the Philippines for a vacation but I've been here for 5 months already. I've been planting ornamental plants, pepper, lemon grass, tomatoes, calamansi, and basil. I wish to buy a small farm lot for my retirement. I wish my husband is still alive. He will definitely like the idea of moving to the Philippines and growing some organic plants for our food.

I'm impressed with all that you've been able to grow in your yard! Sweet corn and butter beans would be great to harvest!
Here by the sea, we have to contend with the hard bed of limestone, and uneven land that keeps us from growing vegetables. We would have to truck in so much soil, it wouldn't be worthwhile for us.:) Seaside jungle, and some native fruit trees it is! We also enjoy our shaded yard too.

@maalat yes, I agree w everybody’s comments, aesthetically so pleasing. Just right to me, organized & clean garden & kitchen area but not too stuffy (not best word but kinda what I mean) nor too spare. I’m newer here so have they ever been featured in like a Home & Garden magazine/publication? That could be fun as they have an interesting story too. Though maybe it is not too big a deal now as many expats have moved to Phil, but I do think it is an interesting story always when people choose big transitions like changing jobs/careers or homelands. It is inspiring & its adventure. Humans always luv that story I think.

P.s.: A: did you mention tortillas as a potential corn snack to make? That cud b delicious tho lotsa work. We did that many years ago wen I was a Girl Scout in my troop, including grinding the corn to flour. The guest to our troop was from my childhood town (in USA) but originally from Mexico & brought this big mortar & pestle from her family heirlooms & we all used little ones. We made the soft tortillas. Mmm
