- After several years of abuse on the beach & in the bush, the GQ Patrol was full of rust & covered in dents. After my trip to Cape York, I told myself I would send it one last time through the $1000 Track as a wagon & then it would be time to chop it into an extra cab ute & rebuild it fresh & ready for it's next life.

Great work and explanation of the process of things you did, the engineering and road worthiness is a real credit to you there’s so many build’s getting around talking to people at tracks about there mods and its not engineered. Cops are slowly taking a real interest in modified 4X4 in NSW easy way to raise fines and defects.
Yeah I’d rather get it all done properly for sure dude, even just for my own piece of mind. And if they’d provide an Avenue for me to do the tyres I’d do those too, I’d spend the money on hydro boost and TB48 brakes to make sure it passes but they just won’t entertain it.. even though there’s people driving around on 35’s already..

Question from a non-Patrol person, what's the advantage of chopping a wagon over getting a GU ute? Assuming something to do with coil suspension on the wagon?
Hey mate thanks I appreciate it. There isn’t really anything different because most GU and GQ utes come with coil suspension anyway, so no real difference between the coil Ute GQ/GU chassis and the wagon GQ/GU chassis. But this is my pride and joy, and inside and out has been built how I wanted it and it would have been thousands to buy a coil Ute to swap everything over, where as the chop didn’t cost me much at all, plus I can make it an extra cab which you can’t get from factory. 👍🏻
Looks so good mate though it would look really good with dual stainless steel snorkels but otber then that it looks so good well done great job👍🏼

We have the same tyre rules here in VIC
I’d love to get 35s engineered on mine but it simply can’t be done here under our current rules
Yeah same for a lot of places, people make out like they are or can be engineered but simply put - only an option pre rego atm. But I’d be happy to test and spend the money and time to ensure it stops well.. it would literally be better if they allowed us and made sure we were safe instead of just saying no and people do it anyway unregulated..

Hey mate I'm doing well was doing a gq dual cab chop but there is that much rust in my drip rails the fabricator said it's not worth it and just do an extended cab like yours. I was just curios do you have heaps of room behind the drivers seat for storage + reclining your seat back? Cheers.
Hey mate yeah if you reach out on Insta I can send some pictures but I have my DCDC, air compressor, sub woofer, power distribution box all mounted behind the driver seat, with enough room to still have my awning wall bay, jumper lead & tyre repair kit bag, my clothes bag & room to store my bedding and pillow too with my driver and passenger seat back far enough back for me to be comfortable, no compromise at all comfort wise. Cheers 👍🏻

Awesome build, why didn't the engineer like the headlight hoops?
They covered the indicators, and the linking bars were a hazard, tbh I agree with him and also the bar work all had to come off to be painted properly and for all the camburg joints to be welded in so it wasn’t so bad to do it all together anyway. I’ve spoken to him about a new design I wanted to do which he’s okay with so we will get some more on when I get some time

By seat reduction mate it just means because it was a 7 seater and now registered as a 2 seater because it’s a Ute 🤙🏻

What’s better raptor or predator?
I can’t really answer that mate I’ve never used raptor 🤷🏻♂️ but the predator has been awesome, holds up to torture & still shows the fleck in the paint in the sun. 👍🏻
