    The ceramic door plate fell off a few years ago when one of the children slammed the door and I glued it back on with Gripfill adhesive - because it had cracked around the screw.
    When I decided to get rid of the door plate for good (let's face it, it's a bit dated!) it pulled off the painted outer coat /veneer of the door, leaving a large ugly patch of timber.
    After pondering for a while the best way to mend it, I figured that a thin coat of 2 part epoxy wood filler would be the best way to repair it.
    It's best to apply the wood filler directly to the damaged hardboard, without priming it as you get a better adhesion rate. Then all you need is a decorator's knife, sand paper on a block and a bit of patience to get it looking as good as new again.
    Today's Tool Kit
    - tub of wood filler goo.gl/osR18a £6.60/ $8.46

    Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Yes I suppose I would just like to know which of the hollow door fixings work best. There are quite a few available and I’m sure there must be a “best” one. I was fixing some clothes hooks to the back of my daughters bathroom door and have had a hell of a job. A comparison video would be fantastic. Also. Just to say thanks for what you do. I really enjoy watching your efforts on our behalf.

    Hi and thanks for your video,
    How bout if the hole or damage is on the raised paneling/beveled rectangular areas or corners of the door?

    It worked but I ended up geting a wood filler that was washable with a color indicator. So I had set it with mod podge and it worked for me to repaint it as a chalkboard . thanks for the help your video was the only one I found .

    Brilliant work! Will this technique work for damaged mdf, assuming we chase out the fluffy section, fill then sand? Cheers 😊

    Hey ! Ive got this veneered door that from the bottom has chipped off due to water damage. Its only varnished and the original veneer is on every door in my house. I don't have more of the veneer the door was made from. I was planning on cleaning in out, replacing the damaged section with some wood, filling in the spaces and then sanding, priming and painting the whole door. Any idea how I could get the original finish ?

    Hi Charlie. I've just bought a ready-primed hollow-core door from B&Q. Unfortunately, I had to get my gardener to transport it home on the back of his truck, where something (water perhaps) penetrated the wrapper resulting in one of the panels getting stained. My question is: should I give it a coat of solvent-based primer, or water-based? I don't know which type the manufacturer used.

    Hi Charlie, I would really like one of your “how to fix to” videos on hollow doors. Fitting hooks etc are always problematic for me anyway. Any help much appreciated.

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  Před 6 lety +3

      Hi David, tell me what sort of hooks you're trying to fit. I'm guessing you're struggling to get a decent fixing in the door. Our cottage has hollow core doors everywhere - a bit of a nightmare so I'd be glad to help. Also I've got a couple of vids in the pipeline as I had to fit a new tubular lock and resize and hang the hollow door on our spare room.

    If only the paint is chipping off can we just sand and repaint or do we need to use the wood filler?

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  Před 4 lety

      I couldn't really say. If you've got some, maybe try it out. You can always take it off of it cracks or otherwise doesn't work as planned.

    • @Lloyd1885

      You would normally paint the whole door, as there will be a difference with the sheen

    Do you have to sand the whole door and paint the whole door?

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  Před 2 lety

      It's a good idea if only with a 180 grit sand paper, just to provide a good key for the primer. Worth a quick wipe with sugar soap solution too, to decrease.

    The heading is a bit of a misnomer. I haven't noticed too much info about fixing a hollow core door. Nevertheless the video does detail how to carry out repairs to a door - even if it is pretty fundamental.

    • @CharlieDIYte

      Tricky. You're going to have to do the best job you can and just accept that the repair won't have a grain on it.

    • @ryanmccue8180
      @ryanmccue8180 Před 4 lety

      No sanding is absolutely necessary just take as much off as possible like he mentioned and it may help you to wear headphones but the sanding is what is going to blend that patch to your door

    Thumbs up. Just to let you know, when you are showing the box with the 2-part wood filler at the end of the video, some ad, or the next video rectangle comes right on top of the container you are showing. So, it is difficult to see the brand and name. After doing it frame by frame, I managed to see it is "Metolux 2-part Wood Filler, New Eco Formula".

    • @CharlieDIYte
      @CharlieDIYte  Před 3 lety

      Sorry about that George. Is it not in the Description below the video? Also you can use any 2 part wood filler. They're all the same. Everbuild, Cuprinol, Ronseal. Loads of manufacturers do it.
