in the ancient days of pre-cable TV, when there there were a handfull of broadcast channels, I would stare longingly at the TV listings at the show with the intriguing name that was on some obscure channel not available in our geographic locality. and now, a generation or so later, I finally get to see the show. this is good stuff, both plot and effects. for being made in the 1960's, this is visually stunning. i think it holds up even 40+ years later.
hahaha good to hear i'm not the only one! it's great to watch again, the puppet version is brilliantly spooky, even more so when watching it in this day and age for some odd reason. in case you didn't know, there's a new captain scarlet which is worth watching for old times sake!
2:04 geeez ... watching this now unveils the fear I felt at 8 or 9 when I was watching this for the first time. This series really did scare the crap out of me when I was a kid. All they are doing is panning around the model set ... but something creates tension, fear.
Actually, about 7-8 years ago, Gerry Anderson teamed up with Foundation Imaging (the guys who did the CGI for the first few seasons of JMS's Babylon 5) to do a CGI version sometimes called New Captain Scarlet.
Being a child, I didn't understand that the Mysterons weren't intending on attacking at first. So really, the humans caused it all themselves due to a misunderstanding. How ironic.
I prefer to this thunderbirds this is the best episode and gerry anderson deserved an oscar he is a mastermind in special effects who cares it was with puppets this is movie quality material
That would be because the Voice actor playing Captain Scarlet decided to do the voice as his "bad impression" of Carry Grant, which is actually quite good.
@bgdaddybic Roughly translated, he said "Black colonel (captain?)Because, before you transfer in [misuterian], well enough, the calm good face it had done, the shank -."
2:10 I don't think George Lucas or Steven Spielberg could even attempt to make anything this scary now. I mean I would love to see a grown-up remake of this - a movie version. But I don't think Lucas or Spielberg could make if freakin' scary enough. Maybe J.J. Abrams could.
@alexenterprises1 WE'LL NEVER KNOW. Just like we'll never know whether Captain Kirk gets vapourised and a new one is formed every time he uses one of those transporter things.
werent that keen on stingray was ok but not brill captain scarlett was up there with thunderbirds. superb. what happened to the 2 men with captain black in the exploration vechicle . take it they were killed. captain black was dead only a mysteron reconstruction keeping him alive. captain brown only in one episope.
I've never seen this series before but I'm familiar with its predecessors. Is Captain Black supposed to look like Cary Grant, or have I been watching too much Gerry Anderson?
@SR71ABCD HAHaHAHAahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 nice one!!!!! and to think Steven mofatt was complaining in ep1 of doctor who(Matt Smith) confidential because they have a lower budget than last year!!!!!!!!!!!
Is is just me or does Captain Black look like Captain Scarlet but with a bad hangover. , I mean he's got like bags under his eyes and looks like her hasn't shaved in a few days but almost the same otherwise o-o

was great to see Alan Hanson get his first TV break as Captain Scarlet. i love Francis Matthewa voice. thanks for posting this. happy christmas
Fire first think later, wonder why the Mysterons got really pissed off.
LOVE THIS even as an adult it creeps me out!
GOOD GOD thats a damn good Cary Grant impression WOW!
The voice for captain scarlet was an impression of Cary Grant,
wonderful picture quality thanks very much! aaaaah capt black scares me still now, he was probably a smackhead when you look at the state of him!
Oh Captain Black, you just started an interplanetary conflict. Well done.....
'I'll get my spacesuit'
'Bitch, please. This is the voice of the Mysterons'.

So cool. I love the Blurry Mars Architecture.
Captain Black was never dead - he was only possessed by the Mysterons. That's why he talked with their voice instead of his normal one!
Ah, Captain Scarlet. We need you now, more than ever.
awsome! sumone needs to upload the whole series like sumone did with thunderbirds!
Holy shit, what sick firepower for a simple exploration vessel xD
American style xD xD xD
Nice clear copy. Great production values back then. Must buy the DVD.
Star Wars set designers owe a lot to these chaps.

would love to see a live actor version with Gary Sinise from csi new york as Captain Black as he looks so like him!!
Humans attack Mysterons, Mysterons reply by planning to wipe out all life on earth.
Boy that escalated quickly.
I guess, by making us earthlings the baddies, fighting peaceful aliens, the plot is a bit more original than what we usually get!
True, but you can't really blame him. It looked like they were pointing very large guns at there crawler and he had 2 crew members to think about.
its the same Zero-X from Thunderbirds are go...
... AWESOME
"Something in 3 dimensions"
Or something that your astronauts didn't try to blow up
I prefer to this thunderbirds this is the best episode and gerry anderson deserved an oscar he is a mastermind in special effects who cares it was with puppets this is movie quality material
The beginning of this episode used to absolutely TERRIFY me as a nipper! Even as a 17 year old now it still creeps me out!
That would be because the Voice actor playing Captain Scarlet decided to do the voice as his "bad impression" of Carry Grant, which is actually quite good.
Hey the mysteron camera looks like a blaster turret which also looks like a hairdryer!
Amazing
Ironically, this kid's show is twice as intelligent as any "adult" drama the BBC or ITV would commission nowadays.
Aww. I've got nothing more after that. I was hoping you'd keep the gag going.
No, but Francis Matthews is doing his "bad" Carry Grant impression, which as you have gathered is quite good.
I like Captain Black just before he was a Mysteron Agent.
Everyone looks like Rod Serling from "The Twighlight Zone" and Dean Stockwell from "Quantum Leap" !!!
Captain Scarlet sounds like a British Cary Grant.
IDEA- the producers of this show hook up with disney or jim henson co and redo the thunderbirds and this the right way!
1:13 what? oh yeah blame thunderbirds!
@bgdaddybic Roughly translated, he said "Black colonel (captain?)Because, before you transfer in [misuterian], well enough, the calm good face it had done, the shank -."
It's funny how Mars looks nothing like what it looks like here.

For real. Fooled me. And I'm no Cary Grant.
@alexenterprises1 WE'LL NEVER KNOW. Just like we'll never know whether Captain Kirk gets vapourised and a new one is formed every time he uses one of those transporter things.
PHEW LUCKY THERES NO TRIGGER NAPPY LOONS ABOUT -YET?
Look close, it pops up to his visor.
Fantastic Thanks xXx

o bless u big daddy!
when man really go into space and explore let learn a lesson here LEAVE ALL WEAPONS BEHIND ON EARTH!!?!
1:40 looks like Burning Man
Someone noticed that the captain Scarlett looks like Elvis Presley???
Hehe. Must be awkward dealing with the IRS since you've been dead 25 years.
@UltraPrimus capt scarlet sounds like Cary Grant.
イントロが変わると全体の雰囲気も変わりますね。日本版より少し上の年齢をターゲットにしていたのかな。
I just realised the original Captain Scarlet kinda looks and sounds like Cary Grant. I wonder if his style was partly based on him?
but very musty, its that way because of the amount of corroided iron
have you noticed that all the Mysteron agents in spectrum always seem to have a Grey bit / shaven bit around their mouth
@bgdaddybic Translated (google) - Captain Black (Captain?) Is also in the mystery before the Possessed Ann, thank you, hey I had a good look calm.
Captain Black pisses me off :P
I've never seen this series before but I'm familiar with its predecessors. Is Captain Black supposed to look like Cary Grant, or have I been watching too much Gerry Anderson?
@SR71ABCD HAHaHAHAahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
nice one!!!!!
and to think Steven mofatt was complaining in ep1 of doctor who(Matt Smith) confidential because they have a lower budget than last year!!!!!!!!!!!
How come everyone looks like Rod Serling ?!

i got all the videos of Captain Scarlett
I am.
LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!
6:02...what the hell happened to his microphone?!
peaceful beings my arse
@bababooeyish I have it on good authority that his face was based on Roger Moore's.
Mostly based on his voice actor Francis Matthew's as well as Cary Grant, & Roger Moore.
I forgot the humans started it by being tripper happy- they should have been Americans- not English
Actually it's quite easy.
all except Captain Scarlet...
So is indestructable captain scarlet a fake?
Erm...parts 2 and 3 are where?
Is is just me or does Captain Black look like Captain Scarlet but with a bad hangover. , I mean he's got like bags under his eyes and looks like her hasn't shaved in a few days but almost the same otherwise o-o
2:40 how do you know that?
How come mars is grey?
@DeepSnowBand I thought the Voice of the mysterons would be engough to make me Shit anyones Pants
