Lord Shiva, in his Rishi form, offers Shri Ram the option of taking Sanyas and walking away from his marriage and all worldly possessions. However, Shri Ram declines this offer and impresses Lord Shiva with his commitment to his family. Later, Shri Ram and Mata Sita get ready for their marriage.

Not sure if all Tamil communities have this ritual, but the Kashi Yatra is one of the interesting events in Tamil Brahmin and other Smarta weddings. Quite possibly this could be in many other communities too across India.
Before any major event in life it is normal to have jitters and doubts. Are we committing too early? What will change in my life after this? Should I run away?
In modern times,kashi yatra ceremony mockingly exaggerates these emotions and make it into a spectacle for everyone. In this case, the groom packs his “bags” to become a sanyasi in Varanasi. He carries a couple of essentials - including an umbrella, some rice & coconut and a spare dhoti. The bride’s father then intercepts him and convinces him to go ahead with the wedding.😊

Kashi yatra .I have seen it in Tamil Brahmin weddings.
The groom takes a bamboo umbrella, walking stick and pretends to leave for pilgrimage.
The bride’s father stops him by holding the groom's hand and enlightens him about grihastha ashram
The bride's father convinces him that the path to salvation and Moksha is taking up the second stage of life which is the Grihasthashram
He talks of how the daughter will make a great partner for his Vedic rituals and soul mate who will help in his spiritual journey
He gives gifts to sweeten the deal for the groom
The groom accepts the offer and returns to complete the wedding ceremony
The groom keeps the umbrella with him which will remind him of the duties towards the bride.
Kashi yatra in telugu brahmin marriage is also similar. The only difference is that the bride's brother does all these rituals

I guess these rituals are more prevalent in the Brahmin community throughout the country.Dont know whether its applicable in the warrior caste as well...
In my other comment in this episode,I did mention about it being common in other communities .😊
May be they are performed differently in different communities because these ceremonies are mostly attended by close family members only.
