    I found this very interesting. I love learning about history, and the organization was first rate.

      BrewCityRider thank you. I just have too many interests. Studying history through stamps and coins being one of them.

    Your albums are beautiful, and of course, hingeless albums are the best and most expensive type of album. I also own Mystic Heirloom American albums for issues up to 2001. Mine are not hingeless, so I need to use hinges and mounts. I particularly like the explanations for each stamp. Knowing why a stamp was printed makes collecting more interesting. There is a reason why 19th century stamp designs are repetitive. Evidently, the public at that time felt that stamp designs should always honor deceased Americans. When the 1869 pictorials came, the public was not ready to accept designs on stamps that did not honor the dead. People thought it was just terrible that stamps were issued with other designs. As a result, the 1869 pictorials were quite unpopular in their day and they were withdrawn early. The post office went back to honoring deceased Americans on US stamps until the 1893 Columbian set. These stamps were popular with the public, so other commemoratives began to be issued. Regarding the “Farley’s Follies, there is a reason why they are called “follies”. As has been mentioned by other remarks, Farley’s Follies are always imperforate. Postmaster General James A. Farley had planned to issue certain stamps , such as the National Parks set and certain other stamps , in imperforate form to be presented to certain governmental officials. This would have made these stamps artificially rare and only available to officials in government. Stamp collectors protested and won, so that these stamps became available to whoever wanted them.

    I use the Schaubek album for my USA classics. I did quite a bit of research on it. The album is hingeless and had the Scott numbers and was pretty complete (include the Special Printings).

    Hi Scott, I liked your theme about organizing stamps. I found an old Scott stamp album that shows the 1847 5 cent Franklin as Scott number 2. It seems that the actual first stamp issued was the 10 cent Washington. In later albums it became the custom of album makers to arbitrarily arrange stamps into “sets” and list them in order of their denomination, hence the 5 cent was renumbered as Scott number 1, the 10 cent as number 2.

    What a great collection! For what I've seen online, Mystic could be the best albums for US stamps.
    I'm currently collecting French and Portuguese stamps. I hope I find something similar, with the description of each stamp, which adds a LOT of value and enjoyment to whoever's browsing the album (not to mention the collector).

    Those albums are very nice. Now that you did a stamp video...I need to do one this weekend. I do not have many older stamps but I bought a collection from a mail carrier that collected most of the issues since 1955. I put them in an 3x5 picture album. The art work is the impressive.

    Apologize for the shaky camera work. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to video these albums. The American Heirloom hingeless albums by Mystic Stamp company are really nice.

    I noticed on your vid about the 9:00 mark on Farley's Follies stamps. That stamp series only have "imperforated" stamps (stamps with straight edges). Stamps with perforations (holes on the edges), are the commemorative issues, Scott # 740 / 749. So only your 10ct Smokey Mountain is a "Farley's Folly".

    • @Emperor-Wild-Man
      @Emperor-Wild-Man Před 3 lety +1

      Further along in the vid, Sc # 771, is another Farley Folly, which should be straight edged stamp. What you have placed in your album is the regular issued Air Post Special Delivery stamp Sc # CE1.
