finn awoke This performance is pretty recent but Tik Tik Boom was written at least 15 years before In the Heights (not sure when but it had to be before 1996 since Jonathan Larson wrote it and he died then) .

OK, I love this.. That it exists. Lin is a genius. Leslie O. and Karen O. brilliant. But there is an elephant in the room here that explains why there will never be a complete recording released of this. Lin is INCREDIBLY Pitchy. When he has Leslie on stage with him, he's in the zone... but if Leslie is not in the number, Lin's in some serious trouble. Still Love the guy- and all he's done so much. But we need to be honest about this performance.

There's a cast rec. of the show in one of it's older productions! It's actually the recording that they based the music for this production off of. The original Off-Broadway with Raùl Esparza.

It’s probably because they’re literally doing it all in one take and moving around the stage. It’s a lot easier to be clear, crisp, and fresh when you’re recording in a booth or with a partner just standing. Broadway actors must have an incredible capacity to perform in these conditions because they can’t just get away with just walking back and forth across a stage. They’re literally acting, singing, and dancing all at once.

Kind of love how in the movie, Lin got a man who played Aaron Burr to be Roger and a girl who played Vanessa to play Karessa and look at the casting here: Aaron Burr and Vanessa.
Something’s very wrong. Some people are saying that Lin is a terrible singer. Look at the Disney recording of Hamilton. Look at In The Heights recording. In Hamilton, his voice sounds great. There is one note in Its Quiet Uptown that I don’t know if it is HIS voice or some kind of autotune, but it is fucking amazing.
I don’t know what happened to his voice here. It is off pitch, but he is a great singer. Not as Leslie, maybe, but he is a great singer. And if he does not know how to work with his voice, it’s okay too. He will learn someday. At least he is good at what he proposes to do: lyrics.
He can do really well for sure he just has a lower vocal range and when he goes higher it sounds strange and all of Jonathon's parts are slightly higher than lins range that's all (but even so this video sells him short of what he did during this off Broadway production there's one part of the therapy rehearsal video with Karen that's sounds rlly good I think it's like 1:58-2:04 and it's sounds pretty good look it up if you'd like I think it's just Lin Manuel Miranda and Karen olivo rehearsing therapy)

Lin is normally great but why does he sound so sharp in all of these clips...? Especially at the end of Therapy
Lin is all sorts of genius but he’s not a particularly strong singer. He also has a natural tone to his tenor voice that squeaks which translates as sounding sharp. If not for the success of In the heights he probably wouldn’t be cast for stage. Thankfully for his career he’s an exceptional composer, lyricist and actor which makes up for what he lacks in vocal performance. He’s also charismatic as all hell.

Angie Hamilton was actually not Lin's first hit show. In the Heights was produced before and they all knew each other already back then. What Kate means is that Lin and his friends played tick tick boom just for fun when Lin was already well-known in the musical world, they were not in the original cast.

LMM is a wonderful music and playwright and we can add director to the list, but performing is not his strong suit. He always seems stiff, good singing is not broadway quality, he has limited review range, can't project or belt out big notes. If he was acting before stage mics be wouldn't be on that stage even with writing Hamilton. But I'm sure the conditions of producing it was him starring.
