POV Cab Ride | CalTrain L4 Limited Train 413 | San Jose to San Francisco in Real time | August 2022

- This video, shot through the front door/window of Nippon Sharyo Gallery cab car unit 4005 in CalTrain service, shows the entire northbound trip of CalTrain L5 (or L4) Limited Express Train 413 in real time. This train ride originated from San Jose Diridon station and terminated at San Francisco 4th and King Street Station.
If we go by CalTrain's official schedule this train should be the L4 413, but the gallery cab car leading the train had the L5 sign up.
Special thanks goes out to the friendly crew of CalTrain.
In a sense, this video is a sequel to the previous POV video I filmed on board the CalTrain dating back to November 2021. But please do note that this video features a L5 (or L4) Limited Express train instead of a L1 local train. Also this video was shot using superior equipment and in 4K UHD instead of full HD.
The front window I shot this video through on this particular gallery car was quite a bit cleaner than that of the other gallery car featured in my CalTrain video from November 2021. Nonetheless it wasn't completely clean.
Unfortunately due to CalTrain's need to close down the platform my train had arrived at in San Francisco and take the train out of service, I was not allowed to walk to the Southern end of the train to look at and photograph the locomotive that had pushed my train the entire way up the peninsula. From a distance I can tell that it was a F40PH, but I can't tell much else.
Also please excuse the fact that for much of this trip, my train traveled towards the northwest. As a result the afternoon sun was in the frame causing glare.
Circa August 2022. This video was recorded in 4K UHD.
I've time stamped moments when the streetcar made stops at stations and when the train passed by some points of interest:

4005 sounds gorgeous
Nice job, this looks like your 2nd cab ride video on caltrain
I try to ride the CalTrain whenever I'm in the area. It's a fun ride. Plus this new video isn't redundant as it features a L4 limited train and it also shows the latest developments regarding the electrification project.
@@Shuotography I see

Nice horn.
Can't wait for the Stadler EMUs to start running on this line, and hopefully California HSR or Brightline West in the future!
Are they planning on changing the track layout at San Jose? I noticed the catenary does not seem to follow some of the current tracks at all
I'm not sure if they gonna be changing the track layouts. But I did hear that not all tracks south of Diridon will have catenary over them. Apparently there will be at least 1 track without catenary for UP freight traffic as well as Amtrak's Coast Starlight.
Diridon still has not had a major rebuild. Hopefully as part of that light rail gets put underground for extra platforms and we get more tracks to the south.
Currently 2/3 tracks south of Diridon are planned to be electrified. UP doesn’t want their line to be so freight will continue to be on that
The one track that isn't covered is served by Amtrak, not Caltrain.
In America, the only real cities are New York and San Francisco, the rest of the country is "Hicktown".
Edit: That last stretch into The City tho. That is the fastest I've ever seen CalTrain move! New regulations?..
When are you planning on posting the cab ride video of the Phoenix light rail? I’m waiting eagerly for it…
I will try to get that video up on Monday, October 3rd. I actually took a long trip and am currently not home. The footage for that video is on my desktop at home. Sorry about the delay.
@@Shuotography no worries!
@@Shuotography Any update on that video? (If you can’t already tell, I’m really excited about it 🙃)
@@OliversElevators Hi sorry, I got busy with everything in life including work right after I got back home. So I had to postpone the video. I will try to get it up ASAP once the situation here calms down a bit.
4005's horn sounds like 4015 a bit
Did they make 413 come earlier? It says that it arrives at 7:00 PM
I believe the train did arrive in San Francisco around 7pm, and this was shot in early August so the sun was up about give or take another hour. I actually witnessed the sunset on the return trip.
What’s the camera you used?
Why didn't you make this 60 fps?
My particular camera has a pretty hefty crop when it's shooting in 4K and at 60fps. At 1080p and 60fps it doesn't have a crop, but aside from the frame rate the quality will be lower. So I decided it's better to keep the 4K resolution without any cropping. Also there's a good chance that at 4K and 60fps, the camera would've overheated and shut itself down well before the end of the trip. I didn't wanna risk that and not covering the whole trip.
