THE REVIEW
I watch each episode with my own commentary, often pausing the scenes to get my words out without having to talk over the episode, and also to point out and analyze the show's art and animation. I have seen each episode already growing up, so these reviews are to compare and contrast the five categories listed below.
PLOT (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
The foundation of the episode. Uniqueness and overused tropes are taken into account, but it is also judged on how well it tells the story of the episode. An episode can score a 5 even with a basic/ cliche plotline as long as it has good pacing, worthy use of its tropes, and feels well-polished. An episode can lose points due to plotholes, uneven storytelling, and relying too heavily on cliches to do the work for it.
CHARACTERIZATION (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
How well the characters are written. Do they feel like themselves compared to the grand narrative of the franchise? Are the supporting or one-off characters interesting, or pure plot devices? Did the humor land? Did the actions and character motivations make sense?
VISUALS (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
Basically, everything that happens on-screen. Character Design. Animation. Backgrounds. Creative mechanics and solutions. If there is CGI or digital effects added, how well do they blend into the show, and were they used as an enhancement, or a crutch?
IMPORTANCE (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
This includes, but is not strictly based on, how important the episodes are to the current story arc (if there is one) or the general narrative of the Ben 10 Franchise. Points can also be awarded for how impactful the episode was, or how favored/ important it is to the general Ben 10 fanbase. I ask myself, "If I skipped this, would I be missing out on the 'Ben 10 Experience?' "
ENTERTAINMENT (Scaled from 1 to 5)
Pretty much the most important part of developing a tv show. You can be perfect in all four of the previous categories, but the episode can still be boring. On the flip side, the episode can be absolute garbage, but still an enjoyable watch. How likely would you be to put this episode on if you were in the mood to watch Ben 10? - Zábava

Or would he be someone with good intentions but doesn't believe that Ben 23 is good enough or responsible enough for Omintrix? Also, do you think Albedo 23's color scheme would be Orange? In the color wheel, orange is parallel to blue, and green is parallel to red.

They clearly used his character sheet for background character. Otherwise why would he be on public with working clothes? Come on Kuro,you are smarter than this. Did you quickly forget Ultimate Alien also did the same thing? There is a guy with a black goatee in background about 21:26,right next to Ben before he transforms. Look right next to Be23 in 22:43. Same guy,they recolored him as ginger for the background. Right next to Ben23 at 42:44,this time they changed his skin color. Another example. Girl at right in 22:38. Recolored as Blonde, on Ben10's left in 22:45. Recolored as Ginger in 24:48,at the middle right.

Ngl, I really dig the Big Bro & lil bro vibes OG Ben and Ben 23 gives where I kinda wish they kept the OG Ben mentoring 23 a little bit longer or kept all together so that the writers could have kept OG Ben's character growth, maturity and development consistent while still having a childish goofball Ben to relate to the younger audience

My theory is that instead of Verdona, Xylene is Ben and Gwen's grandmother. That would explain why Gwen isn't an anodite, and why Ben's eyes are blue instead of green. Perhaps Xylene kept Max active as a plumber, and she and Max continued the fight against Vilgax. The Omnitrix was sent to Max to help, but before it could get there, Max and Vilgax had their final showdown, resulting in Max sacrificing himself in order to kill Vilgax.

Dimension 23 is a Dimension, not an universe or a timeline, the series always says it's a Dimension and never a universe or a timeline and Dimension 23 dont necessarily has its changes related only to specific historical events such as the death of Max

Edit: This is also considering that, for example, the Forge of Creation is basically an alternative universe that (as far as we know) is not derived in any way from the main dimension, and the same goes for the universe that is physically closest to the main one
What I think, taking into account everything that was said in the series, is that:
The difference between universes, dimensions and timelines is that universes can be similar, but also extremely different, even varying according to the laws of physics (such as Rex's universe, which has extremely similar laws of physics; the universe closest to the main universe seen in The Forge of Creation, which according to Paradox has counterintuitive laws of physics; and other universes created by the Contumelia using other Annihilarrgh). Dimensions are other planes of existence, which may or may not be similar to the main dimension (like the 23rd dimension, which is similar to the main dimension, and Legerdomain, which is very different) and may or may not extend to other universes ( like the Null Void, which extends into the Rex universe). Timelines are alternate versions of the same universe history, but without fundamental changes in their structure, like the No Watch Ben timeline.
In which each universe has distinct timelines, which also affect other dimensions (therefore, there is also, for example, a dimension 23 in each timeline, connected to the other dimensions of that same timeline).
(although a timeline can also be referred to as a universe (and a set of timelines as a multiverse), they are "temporal universes", not "spatial universes").

Ben 23 being a version of Classic Ben who never had Grandpa Max to keep his ego in check is such an interesting concept and I'm glad he continued to appear in the series

I like episodes of OV where Ben is shown to be mature and not everyone constantly prattling on about him being goofy. For a 16 year old kid with the most powerful device in the entire universe, with everyone knowing who he is, people do forget that Ben is pretty humble for what he is.
Ben 23 is a direct showcase of this.

31:20 Ben 23 probably just isn't as close with Gwen since Max is the reason she joined their summer road trip in the first place. The road trip must've still happened in some form since Ben had to get the Hero Watch from somewhere, but probably not with Gwen (maybe he just drove around with his parents or something).
It's a possibility. Maybe after Max died, Ben's parents still took him to the trip themselves to keep him distracted from his grief then he found the hero watch.
And that's why he's not close with Gwen, maybe she did other things to keep herself distracted from grief but knowing Natalie ma was probably sent to a summer school.
Strangely enough, Doctor Who actually compensated for the shifting space when time traveling. The T.A.R.D.I.S is said to be a space-time machine, the Doctor had said on multiple occasions that short distances are hard to calculate because of the slight changes in space-time.
Well it is implied in the R in tardis, time and *Relative* dimension in space as well.

I think Max 23 died fighting Vilgax. But before the life-changing summer road trip that Ben Gwen and Max took. Maybe the first time he used the anti-Vilgax weapon he killed Vilgax for good but died to the feedback or something.
With no road trip Ben and Gwen never became close either, explaining her absence. It's entirely possible she IS an anodite and just doesn't know.

This episode also has the best Max and Ben interaction with that ending. You can see that both care about each other dearly and they have such a warm father and son bond. Probably my favourite episode ending.

I actually don't mind Azmuth being able to remove the Omnitrix so easily because it seems like a logical feature he'd build into it. Kinda like how he ripped the dial and core out in SOTO without even trying, I imagine that the Omnitrix automatically unlocks itself when Azmuth interacts with it. Doesn't make up for the other times it gets taken off so easily, but this one time I'm fine letting it slide.
I also think they could've gone a slightly different angle with this episode, where Ben Prime essentially takes on the same role Max did for him but for Ben 23 instead. It would be cool to see Ben realise how much Max has done for him, and give him a chance to mature into more of a leader role as he passes Max's lessons on to Ben 23.
If there's someone who can remove the omnitrix easily, it should be azmuth.

Azmuth's voice is literally the "root password" of the device (he unlocks Master Control just by _saying_ to do so, no auth code needed, whereas he had to tell AF Ben a voice _command code_ to activate self destruct), it'd make sense that his DNA would also be for merely touching the device to override it. It could also be that Ben 23's Hero Watch is in the _Recalibrated_ phase and no longer needs to be literally fused to his skin the way the Prototype needed to be, so that combined with "oop, that's the Creator's genetic code, [sudo su Azmuth]" meant taking it off was as easy as, well, a normal watch.
Yes, but if it was that easy then why didn't he use the voice command to at least turn it off/disable it and catch the boy? I would have preferred to remove the Core as it is much simpler than the entire watch.

To be honest, nostalgia aside, if you REALLY think about it, og series Ben was almost just as bad at naming his aliens as 23. Like him calling a big red alien with four arms "Fourarms" is about as on the nose as calling a blue ice lizard "Freezelizard". Like not saying all of the og alien names are like Ben 23 levels but names like "GhostFreak" and "Benwolf" really tow that line 💀

Love it when Ben tells the younger one to listen to Azmuth advices because he doesn’t want to comeback and have to save him or kick his butt. It Shows how Ben prime is smart and knows that Ben 23 is still not skill enough to deal with all kinds of threats and/or that his moral code might go back to crossing the line.

i heavily disagree with kuro, but i do think its apples to orranges here. Tobey's peter gets a "green goblin" kind of villan like once a year, while ben gets one every week, so his idea of only going after the major baddies makes sense but i still disagree with kuro

Ben goes into space to save entire solar systems and occasionally the entire universe and sometimes beyond just one universe.
Everytime he's off world crime happens that he's not there to solve. So what then? Street crime lile robberies are beneath him and should be taken care of by local police or if he has literally nothing better to do.

I don't see a problem with the Omnitrix coming off easily when it's being removed properly since the only time we see the Omnitrix being removed in a grotesque and painful way it was literally being ripped off by force.

I think OV's strongest attribute is how is shows how Ben's influence the people around him, and the relationships he has with certain people in his life. And this episode is probably one of the best showcases of that.
I think that the "It's Gyro time!" counts as a "Hero time" cause it has the intention behind it, like when Gwen said "It's Heroes time!" it had the same meaning behind as the original phrase so it counts, just my opinion tho.

At one point in this episode's production, the Dimension 23 counterpart of Kevin would have appeared or been name-dropped, working as a busboy in Mr. Gyro, where his last name would've been pronounced as "Leveen" instead of "Levin".
The whole thing about time travel and not moving through space only works if there's a definitive universal reference point, but relativity refutes that.
You're only moving if you set your reference point to something moving relative to you. So using earth as their reference point, they really havent moved through space at all, only time.
I used to get mad when I was young when I hear Ben 23 names for classic Ben's aliens like Techno Bubble I'd be like "IT'S UPGRADE!" Nice looking place kuro. Edit: 12:42 His name in the show is called The Red Guy and he looks like the Devil. Edit 2: 21:42 I like the Dark Blue Gold and Cyan color scheme on the 23 Omnitrix
The joke is, that the Red Guy IS the Devil. He was confirmed to be so in the pilot episode, "No Smoking".

I like Tetrax with a beard TBH. Since Petrosapiens can shapeshift their hands, maybe they can also shapshift other parts of their body as well, to some extent. Maybe Tetrax 23 just decided to push some extra crystals out of his chin.
Alternatively, maybe they just grow extra crystals passively, sort of like the Creeping Crystals from ATLA (I can’t think of any other examples). If it does grow passively, then Tetrax 23 just decided not to shave, presumably with a hammer and chisel.
I’m probably the only one but I don’t mind Ben 23s alien names because the way we react to them is basically how alien characters in-universe would react to Ben Primes alien names and I just like that Ben Prime isn’t the only one giving his aliens names and that it isn’t the same names

My theory for Ben 23 is that Max defeated Vilgax and thought he had killed him at a later date, like say maybe when Ben was around 7 or 9, then Ben not knowing what happened mourned his loss and continued with life, after first getting the Omnitrix, he fights and Azmuth finds out sends Bounty Hunters to take the Omnitrix similar to what happened in Hunted, Ben defeated all of them and stole Tetrax’s hoverboard, went back home after summer and had already revealed his identity to the public and just lived a wealthy life

Love it when Ben meets up with Ben 23. He’s a great cautionary tale, his aliens have cool alternate designs and horrible names, and whenever Ben prime is around him he feels the need to step up as the mature one. Which is always great, I love it when OV can mix the quips and sarcasm of OV Ben with some of the mature it AF seasons 1 and 2. You also see some of that in And Then There We’re None, but we’ll get there when we get there-

It’s interesting that you and others feel like Omniverse didn’t really embrace its titles concept till this episode onward because I always felt it did.
I look at the term “Omniverse” as well as what the first half of the series set out to do and to me I take that term to mean that this show would pull from every corner of the Ben 10 franchise to create a show that honored and paid tribute to what came before it while also doing its own thing. pretty sure this was DJW’s intent as well what with him bringing back so many elements, characters, and stories from past shows and revamping them for this one). That’s part of why Omniverse flip flops between my favorite of second favorite Ben 10 show; it really does feel like a celebration of the entire franchise and the flashbacks to 11 yr old Ben play into that imo.
With that being said, I can definitely understand how others might view the name Omniverse and interpret that to meaning there should be stories playing into the alt timelines and dimensions aspect of the lore, which I also love and I loved how we got that in the back half of the series as well
Yeah I definitely agree with a Ben’s 17th birthday episode. I doubt that this idea would’ve happened in omniverse given how strict Cartoon Network became with how serious Ben 10 could get. But I think it would be great if the episode was about Ben pondering if he’s worthy of one day getting master control over the omnitrix since Asmith said that he might give him access for his 18th. So with him now being one age closer to gaining access he reflects on all of the stuff he’s done and begins to question himself about if he’s worthy of that kind of power

Dimension 23 was a fun episode, Shocksquatch got some respect so it’s a solid 9.5 from me. Honestly a dimension 23 Kevin would be really funny. Instead of a petty runaway he could be a military school hardass. A ROTC kid but with the ability to back it up. If I remember correctly Kevin’s dad worked with Max as a plumber. Maybe he never died and was a family man. Kevin grew up a clean cut dude who likes Motorcycles not Muscle cars. Great video Kuro, this was well worth the watch! 🤙👽

As one of them 2000's kids i remember once going crazy over a "who is a better villain" between Kevin and Vilgax around like 2009 and i spent a entire week running from school to home just to see the spanish voice actor of Ben 10 go "nah they both suck" like, that day 7yo learned how to cry himself to sleep.
