Keep looking for the fire in the darkness, My friends.
When you find it, may it never leave you cold.
Daniel Reed I like being cold
Awesome talk. She had my undivided attention the whole time. My mind didn’t wander off once and that is saying something. She is a great story teller.
me too. I think i'm in love..
I learned from her this. “Look!Look!.” It’ s a wonderful and powerful word.
you made me laugh and cry but most importantly you touched my soul.
And me, too, Rawan Kazma! Blessing for you AND books!
it felt like reading an audio book of great story when I listened to your talk.
READ!!!!!!
From one weird little girl to another, thank you.
Just started writing, you are so right in that one reason we write is to understand the world we live in. In never thought of it that way. Thanks for the perspective!
I very seldom comment on youtube videos but I must in this case. This was absolutely incredible storytelling. I found it so interesting that the first real book you had read was Little Women in second grade because I had nearly the same experience, with the same book! This video brought me so much comfort and joy watching. Thank you so much for making this Ted Talk, you are inspiring young writers everywhere.
This was so incredible and inspiring. Thank you for sharing with us. So sorry for your losses as well. Much love.
What an incredible inspiration, indeed, and I am so very sorry for you losses, as well! Thank you for your comment, Stamp with Paula! Blessings to you and Ann!
I find her way of speaking, or rather storytelling about her own life just mesmerising. She can capture attention. She caught mine for sure. I don't recall reading anything of hers but I'll look for it.
I came by this video while I’m on the bus and inspite of all the hustle around me, I was still focused 100% with what she’s saying. Awesome storyteller🖤
Wow. A talk that went straight to this writer's heart. Thank you for your story!
Love her work, love her. She's such a great example for those of us who are unpublished...
Wow! What a terrific talk!
So powerful, so full of emotions, from laughter to tears. She's an amazing story teller. She was mesmerizing. Please don't believe some ridiculous comments below saying she is boring. You have to have no heart not to connect with her. One of the best TED talks.
I could listen to Ann Hood tell her stories all day. I would love to hear about living on Sullivan Street in NYC. I long to hear the stories of her Italian women’s stories. What a gifted storyteller. Thank you, Ms Hood.
Oh wow! That was an amazing speech. I cried close to the end when Grace died. Don't ever stop what you're doing. Loved it!
Even if she here just speaks its like i am reading a book!!!
What an underrated talk😻 this had me more hooked than my favourite book or tv show!
Great talk!I can’t help but searching for her book to read immediately.
What a wonderful talk. Sorry for the loss of your daughter. And thank you for sharing your story.
By sixth grade I had read nearly all the books in my elementary library in Lambert, Montana. I had a similar experience with my first grade teacher, Mrs. Bertha Baxter, who first gave me the gift of sight by sending a note home to suggest that I couldn't see, thereby leading to my new glasses, and secondly by realizing that I could read far above my grade level. She sent me to third grade reading hour in my first grade year, and I never looked back. The world opened up, and I have been in love with the power of story ever since. Great TEDx Talk!
There are a lot of published authors who cringe when they look at their 1st or 2nd unpublished manuscripts. Some keep those manuscripts around to keep themselves humble.
The first I ever wrote got missing in the care a friend who begged to read it. So many years after writing it, I think I would have cringed so hard from reading that story. I was only 12, I think, and I was fascinated with fantasy stories so I wrote my first ever "Thompson's Adventures". I can't remember the plot so well but I know it is about Thompson, a young boy, who used a path he wasn't supposed to and landed in a magical world where he met this magical creature that guided him. I even went as far as illustrating the story.
After more than 10 years and some pending stories I created but never typed, I considered picking up my childhood passion. That is what brought me here. I am sincerely inspired by this woman.
@@niihjulienne6353 It's really nice you're inspired again.
I'm not crying, you're crying. Well Done, Thank You so very much for your insight. So glad I listened. XO
Wow! What a beautiful story! Thank you for your inspiration ~ I totally agree with your 'Why write' & felt the same way about the sun rising you felt after losing my baby nephew many years ago.
If audio books sounded like storytelling like this I would listen to them way more. I enjoyed this very much as well as related to it.
Ambi Cahira i completely agree. My mind didn’t wander and she had my undivided attention the whole time.
This was a beautiful talk. Thank YOU for all of it.
Why Write? There are an infinite number of reasons. Just try it and it pick one. You can't lose. The better you get at it, the more things/objectives you can use it for. Some people don't even get that far, and can't use it for anything... Actually, that can be said about a lot things, including science. I like to say that science is the cookbook for making things. It's like in The Sound Of Music when Julie Andrews said, "When you know the notes, you can sing most anything." I never did agree with people (Pink Floyd) who say, "We don't need no education." They say that in protest against being another brick in the wall (of the establishment). When in fact, it's the key to getting beyond the wall (of your limitations). I'm glad you found your path to freedom/success.
Thank you for an open hearted, inspiring and authentic talk. I look forward to reading your work...
Speeches like this just keep me inspired.
We need more teachers like Ms. Nolan.

“Because I’m Italian I didn’t harm her, she just vanished”. How is no one talking about this? 🤣🤣🤣👌🏾
a person will never understand this simple question us less they have that impulse and need to write. You have to love a few things in order to write- you gotta love the thing we do with words, you gotta love hearing and telling stories, you gotta love life and you gotta want to share your perspective of life with others.
all of my favorite movies are about writers to one degree or another.
You wrote this 3 years ago but would love to hear what films about writers you love most
I want to go write a story right now!
TY, Powerful.
Entertaining and thoughtful.
Look, look! ...indeed!
I'm reading Comfort right now. I'm from a few minutes down the road from Ann's home in Natick, RI, and my family is still there. I write, and I destroy all I've written. It's time I stop that.
She is a great storyteller.
