  • IN part 2 of our trip to Assateague National Seashore we get to experience how very harsh this barrier island can be! The bugs are no joke, there is NO shade and severe storms are the norm...just make sure you keep your food and water away from the wild horses because they are WILD. #scamp #assateague #travelvlog

    We just got back, (August camping too) the bugs on the bay side are insane, we stayed beach side. It rained 2 of four nights. We loved the experience though, we happen to love camping in the rain...we're slightly insane. Our tent screens were small enough to keep the bugs out and we have a electric fly swatter to zap the ones that sneak in. Your Scamp is so cute! We live in NYC so have nowhere to store it but I want one! The State Campground right next to the National Campground has very nice bathrooms with warm showers.

      rain cools things off & makes such a great sound :)
      Glad to hear you enjoyed the experience even with the crazy bugs! It is a unique place & can be wonderful with some good preparation!
      Ive heard good things about the state campground- we are gonna check that out next time we are in that area

    Had the same problem with bugs at the Outer Banks. Like you said, thank goodness you were not in a tent. This video demonstrates why camping is so much more challenging in the East compared with the West

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  Před 2 lety +3

      camping really is harder on the east coast! we were in california for 2 weeks and had no rain, no bugs and perfect temperatures...we cant even get that for a quick weekend trip over here 😂🙈

    @larrykramer6057 Před 2 lety +4

    Rain a good thing there-- cools things off and bugs don't fly. Perfect for nap/sleep. Sleep, eat, read for a good time.

    No see ums can absolutely ruin any vacation. Much respect to you for not evacuating to a motel. 😁 I need campside horses!

      they really hurt & it took me a while to figure out what was biting us because they were so hard to see in the dark...thankfully the next 2 nights it rained so much it kept them to a minimum- even with all that assateague is still an awesome destination...you just have to be ready for the challenges 😎

    Missing summer already.
    Nice camping spot. 🤔
    Reminds me of the outer banks.

      we miss summer too- especially as Im working on the next video with lots of beach footage! We have never been to the outer banks but it is a spot we need to check out for sure 👍

    You guys might want to get those 12 volt fans they sell at advance auto...they throw good air and have a oscillate function...would be good to ward off those nasty lil critters and to help keep cool .They use very little wattage. I mean almost nothing ! Got mine at the store in Absecon. As you can see I am sold on these fans. Thanx...take care. They have a handy clip on.

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  Před 2 lety +2

      that sounds like a great idea- we will have to add that to the camper before our summer travels next year 👍

    Yep, that's the unpleasant truth about camping, sometimes it can be miserable. But there are other perfect days that make up for the bad ones. Thanks for showing us how the sausage is made, so to speak.

      campers at Assateague have to be prepared for some very challenging circumstances...but still totally worth it to me to get those great experiences like watching an amazing sunset on the beach 😁👍

    Hi from Tennessee. Very informative video about the bugs. Bugs are definitely not fun when they bite. Thanks for sharing your day with us. Have a great day.

      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  Před 2 lety

      the bugs are something else at Assateague...the only place Ive ever experienced more mosquitoes was in the everglades...but if you can deal with the bugs its an awesome place 👍

    Do they have electric hookup? If I had an AC on my scamp would it cost more to camp there?

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  Před 2 lety +3

      no electric hook up, most national park campground are dry camping

    HI Does your Scamp have the 54" wide bed or the 44" wide? Either way, it's pretty "cozy" for 2 adults. I really enjoy the videos.-Thanks!

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  Před 2 lety

      Thanks Jason! we have the 44" wide bed and yes it is very cozy...that is why we like the bed extension- especially during a hot camping trip like this

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  Před 2 lety +2

      Ive been there 3 times and each time had some major challenges...the bugs being the most annoying (second only to the everglades)...but still worth it to me for the unique experience- just do what you can to be prepared 😎😬 next time we might try fall camping instead

  • @richardhouvener6423
    @richardhouvener6423 Před 2 lety +2

    I have encountered no see ums in SC, NC, Texas and other places and would rather face mosquitoes or deer flies (well, maybe not deer flies) than something that just flies through your screens. Yuck! No defense!

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  Před 2 lety

      I couldnt believe how much it hurt when those tiny things bite you- woke us up several times! we will have to come up with a new plan before our next trip to assateague 👍

    What about something like "Beddy's"?

    • @LetNewAdventuresBegin
      @LetNewAdventuresBegin  Před 2 lety

      I would be interested to try that system- as it looks very neat when it is all put together- such a clever idea, but with our current set up when we put the bed extension out I think we would still need regular bedding to cover the extension

    Are you sure you weren't really in Florida? My Lord.. Spiders, wild rain storms, no-seeums, mosquitos... ugh...
