    I heard Phil Velayo say in a podcast that if he had to choose between taking a tripod or a bipod into the field, he’d choose a tripod. So much versatility

    Thank you for the review. I currently have a Vortex Radian with the leveling head, but based on your review I will be getting a switchback also. I really like the head on the switchback. Thank you also for showing us the MUB MOD DOS plate. I hadn't seen that before and that will be a huge advantage for shooting off the top of the tripod with a bag, which I have to do with some of my guns. Again, thank you. This video was extremely informative.

    I've never been a "just as good" guy, especially when it comes to gun stuff, but the Artcise 40mm tripod off amazon for 275 dollars paired with the Two Vets ball head for 170 dollars is a tough combo to beat for the price. I'll have to give the new Vortex a shot, though. I do prefer the locking clamp style ball head.

      TBH, even a $300 tripod stretches the budget, it's good to know what the difference between a $1500 tripod and a $600 tripod is, but that price point makes for a tough use-case evaluation.

      @@highdesertdrew1844 for a total of 445 you’re not going to get anything better for the price. My PRS and NRLx rifles both weigh 21 pounds and my wobble zone is the same using my tripod compared to a full Really Right Stuff, a Fat Boy And the Vortex radian.

    One thing you hit on that I'm kinda interested in, is the discussion of metal fatigue. I do a lot of engineering work, and generally carbon fiber structures require ultrasonic testing to ensure they're not experiencing delamination after exposure to overload. Metal fatigue can be a problem and it's usually caused by repeated loading cycles at or near the maximum strength of the material, or a material that was not properly stress relieved during the manufacturing process.
    Have you ever experienced a failure due to metal fatigue?
    One thing I'm curious about, carbon fiber is a fantastic material for making wing shaped structures, but when made into a tube most of the strength is a function of the diameter, one material I use a lot of are these 316 stainless steel tubes, they're only about .015" thick, but are very strong, and very light. I wonder if a stronger material might be a better way to reduce the weight than moving to carbon fiber.

    • @jimmybrodriguez
      @jimmybrodriguez  Před rokem +1

      Yes, but not with tripods. We don’t stress tripods enough to induce metal fatigue. I was in the cycling industry for a while and we had aluminum frames fail quite a bit from metal fatigue, usually the top tube or down tube where most of the stress is applied depending on riding style. Cycling companies have also been known to push aluminum with really thin walls in order to save weight and try to offer some shock absorption.

Being that you posted this video 10 or so months ago I’m wondering if your opinion has changed or if you still recommend the switchback as the best “budget” tripod setup? Is having a center hook for counterweight (book bag) a necessity when choosing a tripod?

    • @jimmybrodriguez
      @jimmybrodriguez  Před rokem

      Not in my opinion. Typically you’re connected to the tripod with your hands or through the gun which helps to stabilize it. Using a counterweight really helps when you’re completely hands off.

    • @C_oprator89
      @C_oprator89 Před rokem +1

      @@jimmybrodriguez my time has been limited but I have the arca now just for the tripod and I think for convenience sake being able to hang a bag would be nice for hunting and spotting but building a base and shooting consistently from a tripod does take time.

    • @jimmybrodriguez
      @jimmybrodriguez  Před rokem

      Not sure what size bag you’re using but just keep in mind that if the bag swings on the hook it will be tougher to stabilize. Not a huge issue just be careful not to bump when you’re setting up.

    • @jimmybrodriguez
      @jimmybrodriguez  Před rokem +4

      “Average” is relative. The average global income is $9733 and the median is $2920. No one is telling you that you should or need to get anything. Additionally, the tripod I’m talking about is the most budget friendly on the market.

    • @jimmybrodriguez
      @jimmybrodriguez  Před rokem +5

      It’s a simple Google search. I’ve done a lot of work with some to the poorest people in the world so I have little patience when people complain about the prices of things stateside and is also why I say average is relative. Most Americans are in the top 30% in the world in terms of income. Additionally, shooting is a luxury so you can choose to spend as much or as little as you’d like.
      I’m still confused why you’re so upset about a video on the cheapest tripod on the market.
