    Thanks a ton Jeff and Logan. This video is suuuuper dense, with a keen awareness of advanced riding kinesthetics. Viewers: Listen and take notes on JKW's descriptions. Slow the playback speed to .25, and bump the vid quality up to 4k so you can observe Jeff's body position and connect the concept with the visual. Then video yourself and/or ride with a qualified coach to get your form up to snuff.

    Great vid, one of my favourites now! I discovered the pumptrack too, about 8 months ago. Been practicing there every week and you are right: not only do you learn the skill, but you start seeing opportunities on the trail to pump. So happy with that development. And the pumptrack itself is so much fun, sessioning a jump is the best there. Or a manual or a turn or whatever. I’m pretty terribly at all of them ;) Having said all this: I wouldn’t say I’m overall quicker on a trail that I know, because pumping just is so tiring :) Need to catch my breath more often. But it makes a boring trail so much more fun to ride

    Cool video, and something I LOVE doing. I follow behind people a lot getting GoPro POV footage, and one thing I like to do is see if I can keep up without pedaling. A good way to see if you're doing this correctly, and improving, is to find a pump track and hit a section where you can barely finish it without having to pedal if you start from being stopped. Do it over and over until you can gain speed, and complete it with more momentum at the end. Then take that to the trail, and do the same thing. We have two sections mapped out where we try to ride the whole thing without pedaling. One mistake...and you'll lose too much momentum, and have to pedal. We hit those once in awhile just to make sure we're not forgetting to pump the trail. It's FREE SPEED!! :-)

    Have to say, kids these days are lucky to have local pumptracks to learn these basic skills. Sorry to hear about the injury!! But onto pumping for a moment...do you generally firm up front and rear shock when riding a pump track (kinda like a rigid bmx) and does this still translate well to the trails where you generally have a fairly plush suspension

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  Před 5 lety +3

      I keep my pump track bike's suspension super firm. I believe it's best to set the pump track bike up really firm for best pump track performance. This way it's very obvious when you nail the pump technique correctly. Soft suspension really mutes both the correct pumps and the incorrect movements. When you get on your trail bike, even though the suspension has to be much softer, you'll know the correct technique and will be better able to apply it.

      Fernando, if you aren't bottoming ever, your suspension is likely too stiff or too progressive. It's OK to bottom on really big hits. If it were my bike, I'd set it up to work on the majority of trail. For me that means pretty soft and open. A 160mm bike rarely feels very poppy, and there is definitely a technique to riding such a long travel bike on jumps. I'd learn to use the suspension for traction, and learn how to get that big bike off the ground more consistently. Have fun!!!
