    Full press release:
In the last dozen years, Elder has stepped out of the shadows of their peers in the heavy rock underground to emerge a unique voice, delivering album after album of almost unparalleled consistency and creativity. Omens, the band's fifth full-length record, is the newest pillar in the construction of their own musical universe. With it, Elder further embrace experimentation in their brand of progressive psychedelic rock in which atmosphere, melody and structure are created and transformed again and again.
Following 2017's Reflections of a Floating World and the 2019 experimental EP The Gold & Silver Sessions, it was anyone's guess what the band's next full-length might have in store. Having cemented their own sound - a dense yet lucid brand of heavy rock full of unexpected flourishes and progressive jaunts - the latter EP showcased an exact opposite side of Elder, more rooted in sparse krautrock and even jazz-tinged jams. Omens answers this speculation with a contradiction that embodies the spirit of Elder: somehow, there's even more everything.
In five cinematic songs, lush, intricately interwoven melodies grow and dissolve into spaced-out jams. Massive riffs thunder down into a churning sea of psychedelic sounds and unpredictable grooves carry away the listener. Elder paints pictures with their music, and Omens shows the band experimenting with an even more colorful palette - with good reason. After thirteen years, this is the first full-length recorded with a new lineup including guitarist Michael Risberg and new drummer Georg Edert, along with guest performances by Fabio Cuomo on Rhodes piano and synthesizers.
This is music for a vacation from reality - or to lose oneself in another world. And yet Omens is not purely an exercise in escapism, but also reflects the increasingly bleak, confusing and antagonistic times in which it was written. Composed as a concept album spanning the lifespan of a civilization, the album also reads as a commentary on our own society hell-bent on profitability at the expense of our own lives and environment.
Omens was recorded and mixed at Black Box Studios in France with engineer Peter Deimel (Shellac, dEUS, Motorpsycho) and mastered by Carl Saff in Chicago. The result is an album that is rich, warm and dynamic, presenting the many layers of Elder's complex sound clearly and offering new discoveries with every listen.

    Michael Risberg - Guitars, keyboards

yeah definitely is, start of the song, a slow hypnotizing rhythmic beat/riff, like your just 'grinding' or persevering at some task over millennia, digging through the densest of diamonds,... then slowly, as another guy mentioned in comments, the loop riff w/ key counter melodies @ 24:20 breaks after a 4 minute buildup, like walking for days in the wilderness and finally breaking over a hillside to see the goal or something. Then from there it just goes to so many places, sonically and emotionally. The loop-riff motif gets hit with heaviness @24:38, but keeps going, so the light/crystal/levitation/angelic riff/keys gets contrasted with the heavy distortions riff. @25:30 guitar wizard hands you elixir to drink, pulls you into a warp tunnel, @25:45, snap back to a new reality with paradigm shift @26:53 (bended note) , dolphin jumps high out of water then nosedives DEEP @26:54 Back into the pre-esatblished 'soft' riff motif earlier in song, but blended with the 'hard' guitar riffs (heavyness/lightness at same time)(amazing!) . @28:10 , more wizard stuff, @28:37 which leads to a cool warp tunnel transportation part, synth/violin thing gives it a cool Babylonian texture, @30:13 those solo riffs with consonance/dissonance emotion! then the early morning calm lake outro beginning at 30:40, morphing into an almost 'hockey-night' arena board-slammer drum beat.

Elder does it yet again! It's honestly very surprising to see bands come up with album after album, each unique with its own interesting features, but still not losing any integrity in the process. After Lore and Reflections, I did not expect them to be still so clear in framing their ideas and executing them on Omens.
This is one colourful release, representing ideas (through music) that seem both disjoint yet connected. It's like the unconscious mind. Comes up with strange, disconnected ideas; but if thought is put into them, they fly together and integrate into a wonderful notion!
That is ART, and that's precisely what Elder have done, time after time, and now once again. Beautiful.

Huge fan since 2011, been to 4 concerts. You always make me happy with your music. Nick is a very down to earth guy, smoked a spliff at Freak Valley Festival together and had a nice chat. Stay true guys. Best regards from Germany.

In my experience with listening to Elder, it takes several listens to get it. To try and critique it after one listen is a disservice to the band, and to yourself frankly. Don't let yourself miss out on the chance to read between the lines and absorb all their music has to offer. This is my third listen and I am just now starting to feel the grooves. And I know that going forward this is going to be another heavy rotation Elder offering for me.

There is much going on and to experience that it takes listening to the album a few times to fully enjoy. The is an album that you must listen to front to back, Amazing stuff here. The best albums take several listens to comprehend and then completely hooked!!!

Agree. I didn't like it for the first three or four listens, thought that Lore and Reflections were way better. But now, several months later, I realize it's a great album. Beautiful music.

Guys I want to say thank you for the Amazing Music!
I enjoy the genres adjacent to what you are making to a degree (Stoner and doom metal/rock, psychedelic, some prog stuff...) but not a single Band from either of these genres ever really managed to really amaze and captivate me, I maybe enjoy the music but it's nothing special to me. Especially the prog heavy stuff I often find strenuous to listen to.
You guys were the first (and still are the only ones) in this direction of music that I really fell for. You are making the kind of music where I can just stop doing anything else and flow with it, your music just finds its way deep inside me and moves me, it's like a trance at times.
My Favourite of your works for now is Lore, with Dead roots and Reflections sharing a close second place, but who knows how will feel about this one here after a few more listens.
There are an uncountable number of great bands and musicians out there, so many that I regularly forget some only to rediscover them years later, but still you guys quickly became one of my absoloute facourites!
I sadly missed you in Hamburg last year and I hope I will get another chance to see you!
    keep up the great work!

At first listen I thought it was ok, but after coming back to it a few times now I love this album. It doesn't hit me with these intense moments of explosion the same way Reflections and Lore do, it's less visceral but warmer.
Lore is like ripping off the head of your enemy in battle, Omens is like a meaningful conversation with good friend.
