I am so love this video. You did such a wonderful job explaining these pieces and all the nuances of victorian mourning. Thank you, you did a wonderful job.
Thanks for sharing! Would love to see more on this topic.
I am so excited to share this one! I know some people have been asking for me to post about this topic so I hope it inspires you and teaches you something new! Thanks for stopping by! 🖤💀😘
Thank you so much for explaining about the reason of not catching a glimpse being the reason that jet was used.
Glad it was helpful!
Very interesting video! I really enjoyed seeing & learning about this style of jewelry.
I am still learning too. I am glad you learned some new things!
I really learnt a lot about mourning jewelry from this video. Thank you!
Yay! That makes my day!
Oh, I love love language of flowers! I have a whole series of cards that I do that is precisely that! So much cool info about the jewelry. I have a ‘mourning’ necklace, a heart locket filled with hair from my previous cat companions. It hangs from a black velvet ribbon. Thanks, Katherine as always.💗
Oh kitty mementoes! I adore that so darn much!!!
I’m a collector off mourning jewellery as well! Have around 25 pieces😊 It’s sooo beautiful.
Oh awesome! I bet it all photographs lovely together. I really want to get a chatelaine piece next and maybe a hair brooch. There are so many kinds and it becomes addicting!
this was sooo interesting!! and your collection is beautiful
Yay! I glad you found it helpful! 🖤💀😘
I enjoyed this video so much. I never heard of mourning jewelry before, now I will be looking for it. Your locket is amazing. I can see how you were sold on the photograph inside the locket. Thank you for sharing ❤️🖤
Oh yay! I am glad I could share this with you! Let the hunt begin! 😆👍😘
Awesome video, I didn’t know about the whole reflection superstition. You may have already seen it, but Sundae Baubles has just done a fantastic live here on CZcams all about mourning jewellery, including how to differentiate jet, bog oak, vulcanite and gutta percha- if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it!
This was a fun video, thanks for sharing! My engagement ring is an Art Deco piece and I just love vintage/antique jewelry, they’re such special and unique pieces! 🥰 -Laura
Oh that ring must be amazing! I have a passion for the antique jewelry for sure. There is something special about anything that made it through time till now. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out!
Thank you so much for posting about this type of jewellery. I live in England so I hope I come across an affordable piece soon. I loved the lucite piece but I also loved all the other ones 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I totally get the price thing! Most of the pieces I found were under $20. The lockets were more expensive. I think in the US we have more mourning style pieces. I bet there are some amazing ones across the pond where you are!
Loved this video Katherine, great job!
Thanks my dear! I have some kaftans of summer coming up. Get ready!
Thank you so much for this video. I heard of mourning jewellary but never know much about it. Learn a lot from your video. I remember that curiosity inc necklace. Lucky for you!
Yay! I am so glad!
Hahahaha! Yes! I snatched that sucker up for a total bargain compared to other items. 👀
Fun fact! Vulcanized refers to the process of Vulcanization which is what they called the process of making liquid sap from the rubber tree hard! Most likely seen referring to things like galoshes or those old yellow rain slickers. I only know this from reading Victorian era lit and Steampunk/Gaslamp Fantasy stories. They had some really interesting words for things back then that we don't use much anymore which is a pity.
Your jewelry is lovely and I did learn a few things!
Oh neat! Vulcanized galoshes could totally be a band name! 😆🤪 I find the steampunk alternate reality concept fascinating!
I only have one or two pieces because it is so hard to find in my area. The loose hair was made into "rats" which were pieces of fine netting filled with your loose hair from the reciever. Then it was a base that you put your hair combed over it to give it a shape that was also the correct color since it was your own hair to begin with.
Yes! I actually cut out me calling them rats because I thought it would freak people out! Lol
I for sure have found the best pieces online. I have gotten lucky with some of the brooches in the style of mourning. I don’t pay up for them nearly as much as they probably are worth.
Thanks for this information! I love your collection! I’ll be on the look out for this new collection! Just what I need another collection LOL And I’ll be researching :)
Preach! I need to stop finding new collections too! Lol
terrific information
Thanks for checking it out!
Oh wow wow wow! I have a similar piece to the one I gave you and It's been living on my "death" shelf lol IMPOSTER!!! 😆 I love your collection so far! Mourning jewelry is just so beautiful! 😍
The way I look at it that person is long gone now, so technically it is post mortem at this point! Totally counts! 😆💀😘
@@KatherineYoung I guess you're right! 😄🤷🏽♀️
Love the locket you’re wearing. 🖤🖤🖤 Great collection!
Thank you!
Great video, this is so facinating. I've never heard of Mouring jewelery, I have heard of hair jewelery and usung hair for cording but, never heard of the receptical.
BTW, save time Little Miss needs to be in all videos.
Yay! I am happy to introduce you!
I literally don’t wake the cats up when I film. They just hear me talking and come check it out.
@@KatherineYoung I think you should, just call out "Action"
My understanding was that jet was to be polished, which is vontradictory to the premiss that refle tions were dissallowed. You have i deed taught me somethi g. It sounds like vMpires were never seen in mirrors nor morning jewelry.thank you for this i terestii g documentary.😅
Vampires and mourning. 😂🤣 Love it!
I did I did I've done quite a bit actually
I meant I learned it quite a bit
Yay! I am so glad!
I did not know that morning jewelry was not to givei thought reflections.
It is a good way to distinguish true mourning pieces from those made later or in the style of mourning.
