VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Eric and Ashley made the decision to move into a van slowly. They began to downsize and minimize while they were still living in a traditional home. As they began to notice how little they needed to be happy and started to shift their thinking around money and how they value time, moving into a van just seemed like the next right step. They didn't want to wait until retirement to see the country and enjoy life, so they're doing it now and they support themselves by accepting travel nurse jobs around the country. They have a ton of unique features in their van including a handmade fruit basket, tons of counter space, a completely non-toxic stain for their ceiling, creative storage and a desk/couch during the day with a simple and effective pullout bed at night.

This stealth van was a dream rig for me when I first started life on the road. The ease to park anywhere was so attractive to me. Does stealth matter to you in your nomad journey?
We are retirement age and have almost completed our step van conversion. We are about to embark on the journey of a life time. We encourage the oldies out there. You are never too old for a life of adventure! Eat healthy and live a long, happy life!
How is it going??
@pacorodriguez9829 No reply, they accidentally flew off the Grand Canyon.
There are a lot of things I would give up in the name of minimalism and simple living - being able to stand up straight is not one of them.
Great comment, I wondered about that while watching their video. I don't know if I could sit or kneel and cook or inhabit a space where I couldn't stand up and walk to what I need, instead of stoop or crawl. But this couple is young, healthy, lean and probably get enough outside exercise. Still for myself.........
I would need knee pads!😂
You don't get an express van if you plan to spend all of your time inside. It is for sleeping and for storage. Cooking is mostly done outdoors.
The price difference between a Pro Master and a Chevy Express is pretty intense. I imagine anyone going for the Chevy Express is trying to save. I myself could not afford the Pro Master. Couldn't even dream of a Mercedes. A lot of people trying to live this lifestyle is trying to save money and spend more time being free. I doubt I'll be doing much inside of my van besides sleeping
You can it’s called going outside
It's all about trade offs. A raised roof = being able to stand & have more living space .... but it also = added wind resistance and exposed cross wind surface area, an upward shift of the center of gravity (which also contributes to more white knuckle driving experiences), not as stealthy of a profile, more difficult access to the roof top solar panels & storage, and often times more maintenance problems with leaks. This setup rates right up there as one of the "almost perfect" ones that I have ever seen. Very nice job Eric and Ashley!!!!
Nicely done, but I could not kneel or crawl around. I was a travel nurse also.
I'm a year from retirement and I agree with the two of you. I did so much in my twenties and thirties before having kids so now I have all of those great memories. I have no regrets about living my life while it happened instead of putting it off for retirement. Yes, money is an issue when young but tiny living solves that issue.
Such a thoughtful, kind couple. It is wonderful you both found a truly meaningful and happy life together.Thank you for sharing.
Nice design, but where is the potty?
a leaf and a stump out the side door 🤣
Not for me but to each their own.
Wow! Great build for a normal size van! Luv that! Thank you for your icu service, A bunch of these fine ladies saved my life once.
Top cabinet door spring?😳
Walkie talkies...great idea!
Flip down cabinet door with a mirror. Sweet!
Must save/watch again video. Thanks!👍
What a lovely couple, they seem great together
I’m normally not a fan of low roof vans but you have done a really nice build. I think I will have to borrow your technique of hanging your basket. I love how you can remove it and put it back.
Yeah, I'm snag that fruit idea, too.
Absolutely agree. I’m designing my tiny house now and a couple of those will be in few different places.
The doors on a Chevy Express (other than the driver and front passenger) are hollow space. I'm going to mount my first aid kit in one of the middle side doors.
that's an awesome idea 💡 It's funny when I saw the doors on their van I thought it looked like a waste of useable space but I'm sure it has to do with esthetics and keeping it looking clean and organized.
NICE build! Logging that French cleat technique in my head!
would have to be able to stand
Having a 'commercial' 6min. in takes away from this video. Could have been shown at the end if it was so necessary. Wow, it looks like the really love living in the van. Never standing up in your home is not my cup ole' tea, but glad it's theirs. Happy trails.
_Nice, and well thought out! The pup is a cutie!_
This is my ideal van setup, except with the layout reversed - I’d want the couch facing out the door. 🤗 Love all your storage space, too!
While good in theory, the problem with that is you wouldn't be able to have the slide out table to use while on the sofa. By opening the back door/window you can enjoy the view. Also, you can leave it in bed down mode with it at the back, with full use of the swivel chairs in front.
I JUST bought a used Chevy Express and really, REALLY like most of what you've done. I only need a single bed, but it would be easy just to eliminate your extension. Or, maybe keep that because I have three dogs. Also, I opted for WINDOWS all around: That was a top priority for me, even though it cuts way back on storage. With your floorplan, there could be windows next to the bed without losing any storage at all. I also made note of your double roof vents/fans for better ventilation. The Express Passenger has several windows that open, but "open" just means a tiny slit, so roof vents are a must. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas, your lives, and also your joyous attitudes toward this glorious lifestyle.
Amazing. That's how I'm building my van out.
This a great build, has twice as much storage that I’ve seen in other low tops. Dog bowl, hidden picture storage, flip up table, so many good ideas. Great job 👍.
This would be a perfect van for small people!
Nice build, clean design but the constant crouching has got to get old. Taller van would be more comfortable
no one but you so unique people have thought of putting a curtain up and having a diesel heater man you guys are so special
My favorite Cevy build.. would love to have the the plans...
Where do you shower when it’s cold?
They probably go to the gym or friends house
What swivel seat base did you get and where? The one that worked for you should also work for my van. Thanks!!!
Loved your organized & nice homey looking van. The fruit basket is an idea I’m borrowing.
This is one of the most beautiful conversions I've ever seen. Very well done video as well.
You can always put a high top on your van and then you can stand up in it. :-)
Please please tell me where you found the swivel for your passenger seat--can not find one-Thank you
I love the idea of TIME AS A CURRENCY. Kudos to you two for just going for it NOW. I’m 62 and thinking I better get with it before I can’t. Love the way the bed works too. Live curiously y’all!
Very clever & I like it but at my age I am over having to live crouching or sitting down.
Where's the bathroom??
I guess they have to find one everyday depending on where they go
@@kbanghart Egads! Can you imagine? Especially overnight?
@@Zephyr828 lol no! I wish they had included that detail in the video
I believe a 5 gallon bucket is the standard. I don’t think they are worried about “finding” a traditional plumbed toilet every day.
@@buhundbeliever7169 ewww
Love it! Love the fruit basket.... Very cool 😎.......
Cheers!
Wow ! Outstanding & very clever
Perfect set up...great job😀👍
Yes!!! I have a chevy van as well and I can't wait to travel in it! I am building it out now! 1988 Chevy van home
Where do u use the facilities? Do you have a nature's head in the van? Showers at a gym? Do you always stay where you have access? Just curious
Yeah, for a setup like this you have to constantly plan that out. Not sure I'd want to do that.
This is a very intelligent and practical van build! I will be using some of your build ideas. Thanks.
Love your set up! Very efficient. Have fun!
Very well organized home!😀👍As a RN you have to know how and be good at managing your time!
Pretty cool! Saves on rent or mortgage payment! Savings!👍👍I hope this works out for you guys over the next few years! Life is too short! You are working and enjoying your self! Right on!
Where is your toilet?
There is no toilet.
@@gailmiller6333 how does that work in the middle of the night, on the road etc. I would have to have toilet and shower.
@@shannoncrook4712 me too, this wouldn't work for me, that being just one reason.
I have a passion for low top vans. Very nicely done thanks for sharing.
please please please---where did you get the swivel for the seat!
Discount Van sells them. $299. I dont know if that is where theirs came from. I would like to know too.
Some very original finishes and design in this van. Well done!
The ceiling height! (Or lack thereof)
That would be nice I agree with it. Pretty soon I'm going to get my 62 to retires in up to it.
This van would be great for "little people", but not being able to stand up is a must have (even just for a week of camping).
I get that Millennials want to "customize" their vans, but this one is so cramped, it is a step down from a regular camper.
I cannot imagine living in this van, even for a weekend of camping unless I was o ly to sleep in it and all my time would be outside. I would go bananas in such tight quarters.
WOW it would be a cute mini home for you guys

Nice vans, Extra Space storage will Jack your rates up when ever they want!!
Gorgeous dog! ❤️
Such a beautiful layout 💙
at the end of the year im going to buy a Chevy Express to start building it out
Very nice simple build. Would do something like that myself.
Very very nice good job good luck to guys
Like your solutions for your bed and your fruitbasket!
Interesting ...
I've been a Travel RN for two years now, although I've had the same assignment for that duration, and it's been "local" ... within 50 miles from home.
My new assignment is 100 miles away and I expect housing with be at least $1500 per month.
Enter the idea of a camper van to save on stipend, and this is how I found your channel.
I'm definitely taking inspiration from your guys' build, but I have to ask about what you do for your showering / toilet needs? I was just thinking of a cassette toilet for peeing and showering at the hospital.
Thanks for your time!
Evidently quality build. Walled off front looks beautiful. Hinged fruit basket is very cool. Technical appearing but also simple.
What a neat couple. My one question to this couple and other young folks doing the same kinda thing. Is this, what about kids, and saving for your future? I wonder are all the folks one day just gonna go, “okay, I’m ready to settle down and have a family now.” So many I see home school. Idk if that’s so good either. No social skills learned that way. I’ve seen so many children that come from home schooled families and they are idiots. I don’t know how else to say it but they have NO social skills because they never socially interacted with others. It just worries me. I’m all for doing things now before you’re too old but I just worry about later. I do think this couple at least has some ideas of life later. I wish this couple all the best. May they have health, happiness and safety on their travels. I dig that “I left my heart...” sign they have. Neat idea with the storage behind it! And the dog bowl, genius! Thanks for the tour!
❤️💜💚
I've met many homeschooled kids in Australia and they have far better social skills than those in institutional settings. Those who live on the road excellent even more!
I agree about the dangers of homeschooling, I know of two moms specifically whom I would never have teach my kids let alone anyone else's, based on our first hand witnessed interactions. But I do know what works out for a lot of people. One problem, in many households, I live in California, and most places in the US you really need to have two incomes or if you have one income, be really good about your money, and then you worry about the time it takes to homeschool. Plus the social interaction you mentioned, I like that my kids get to go see other adults and kids besides just us all the time.
@@kbanghart I agree. That social interaction just too important in ones development.
❤️💜💚
@@allegrosotto2126 That’s great. But I don’t live in Australia. Good for them though. And I’ve met some well adjusted children as well. But the bad unfortunately, in my experience, out-ways the good. Hopefully, it will get better.
❤️💜💚
What a super family and lovely home. So glad you get to live this instead of dream it. I deal with a similar issue with my cat who likes to sleep next to my head and shoulder.🤪🤭
A lovely couple indeed.
Wish I can live tiny but I cannot let go~
🌳🌈🌿🌞🙏🥰 Thank you for your service to others. Keep safe. Sweet ride.
Awesome setup and couple 💯
I love this
man you are real people you HAVE DISHES poor people in the sudan don't have your dishes
Super, love the pooch.
Great home. Thank you for sharing.
No they need a bigger taller van way to small
i am working right now on my 2006 Savana Explorer (SWB) to make a full Camper Conversion. The VAN is empty right now and i have to do all the new Interior. Hopefully it takes not longer than 3 Months
I'm going to try to steal that solid fruit basket idea... I don't like my IKEA bag/hammock
Nice set up and looks amazing
I like the bed setup. I am considering a used chevy express with the 6.0 V8 with 110,000 miles. How is your V8 holding up? Do you know what your highway mpg is?
Very nice build
Thank you for the video. I have a chevy express 2500 from 1997, i think it might be 2 feet shorter than yours. I am actually copying part of the design. The bed for example. Do you happen to have pics of the making of? Trying to figuring out how to build the bed. I am on it now.
As well, do you have more details of structure and mesurements of the cabinets/bed building. I would appreciate any help.
Good luck on your journeys.
My best wishes.
And again, thank you for sharing
Hello, beautiful set-up, one question. Where did you get the hose for your cooktop ?
I have the same van my interior is all dark wood like your interior the white and dark wood
Really cool!
Wow
Very nice but too claustrophobic for me.
Well done! 👍😉
I love your van! I’m a midwife and often have strange, long hours and have been thinking of buying a van to convert it. I should be picking up my new to me 2014 Chevy Express extended van. Mine odd silver and her name will be The Old Gray Mare! Lol! So many things I love, but where did you get the fruit basket and do you have any type of toilet in your van?
How do u guys do the the electrical supply
we enjoy lovin a small grey tank I love having a small $enis realy and a small bank account
Awesome video thanks for sharing. Where did you get the spell proof water bowl? Stay well and safe out there on the road.
Where are you located I’m in Denver needing a hand to finish
What do you guys do about getting mail and stuff like that and having your van registered and insured. ?? I’m interested in the van life myself
Some nomads use a virtual mailbox service, or have a friend or family member collect mail for them! As far as insurance and registration goes, folks may choose to use a physical address of a family member or friend. :) Hope that helps!
did they say what year their van was?
Ms & Mr. Tiny van tour Google Free energies should cut.down expenses.!
Is this a 2500 or 3500 ?
Hi peeps so cute
Is that spot a little dangerous for a dog to sit on without a seatbelt?
OMG you werent happy
No mention of a toilet or shower. Why?
Stores and a gyms 😂 I lived in a Tahoe for months not even converted lmfao just the third row and a middle seat removed a couple yoga mats and a propane heater only ate microwave food and restaurant food sometimes rag only baths very good way to save money tho 💯
@@godkingoftoxicity7037 Good for you. At 70 we need a few basic necessities thrown in. 😂😂😂
In Australia we don't have gyms where you can just rock up and use their facilities for free.
No fruit hammock? I feel like every van has one
Have not seen a build that you can't stand in. Would not be for me.
Why the host of the show pretty tho
how can you convert such a low roof van into a camper? Damn, cooking on your knees? Be smarter, chose a higher roof at least.
They could use a chair 😂 and sit but a lot nicer than living in a Tahoe
What about the toilet 😂
Stores 😂
