After college at the Oral Roberts University in Tulsa Oklahoma he served for 15 years on its Board of Regents, and two years as Associate Evangelist of The Oral Roberts Association, (ORA).
In 1977, Pearson founded Higher Dimensions Ministries (now New Dimensions ), in Tulsa, which grew to over 5,000.
Bishop Pearson was consecrated to the office of Bishop in 1996 thru a College of Bishops headed by Bishop Charles E Blake, presently the Presiding Bishop of the Churches of God In Christ, the denomination he was raised in and through whom he was ordained in 1971.
In 1993, Carlton married the former Gina Marie Gauthier who is a professional Life Coach and Yoga teacher.
More recently, he has felt a passion to proclaim the "Gospel Of Inclusion" and has written a widely acclaimed book by that name, published by Simon and Schuster. It confronts the Christian church's exclusivism as being inconsistent, in spirit with the teachings of Jesus.
Pearson's frank and often controversial take on a number of different subjects has earned him appearances on television programs such as NBC and MSNBC's Dateline, ABC's Nightline, 20/20, Good Morning America, CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, BET Tonight with Tavis Smiley, The Edge with Paula Zahn and Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, The Monique Show on BET, and a number of other television, radio and print media outlets. Bishop Pearson was recognized as one of America's 10 Most Influential Black Ministers by Gospel Today and Belief.net. He has received several honorary doctoral degrees.
Bishop Pearson recently served as the Interim Senior Minister at Christ Universal Temple in Chicago. He and Gina now host New Dimensions of Chicago, building a local multi-cultural and radically Inclusive spiritual community that emphasizes expanded consciousness and Self Actualization. His newest book, God Is Not A Christian, Nor A Jew, Muslim, Hindu...God Dwells With Us, In Us, Around Us, As Us was published by Simon and Schuster and released in the spring of 2010.

I formally pastored in the COGIC prior to transitioning from male to female. Recently my mom passed away. The funeral was held at the church I grew up in a COGIC ministry. Jhn 3:14-21 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. This man is not trying to hurt nobody- in seminary back in 2000 I felt cray cray and here finally is solace “Thanks” .... almost 20 years later what my soul thirst for. In the poverty stricken south there is rapid Church Hurt... my Mother died in 2009. Her Bishop put her out because she didn’t pay tithe- I still have the letter he personally wrote to her and she helped build that church... I will never go back there ever again... pure hurtful. Thank you for putting words to what was always in my soul. I am coming out of darkness...slowly but surely...

I sure love me some Carlton. I have a sincere love for you. What happen to you is relatable to my past. I was a KCM follower for many years and began to question my beliefs when in my 50's. I enjoy your new found revelations of a loving God and feel connected to you in this universe.
This is why as believer it is ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT to pray for and lift up those in the five fold ministry. Dont be content just going to church or being online getting our scheduled feeding from our spiritual leaders.
I new this in my heart what Bishop is teaching when I was 15 years old I used to run the streets my mother would tell me to go to church on Sundays and we would fight my argument was most of the people in church on Sunday was out on the Block in the streets in the clubs partying with me on Saturdays yes at 15 and I didn't feel like being a hypocrite so I couldn't go I love all my people people of all faiths we come in all shapes colors and sizes we can all teach one another to love each other and live in peace and harmony of the planet thank you Bishop Carlton Pearson oh by the way my wife loves you even from day one when we first seen you on TV on the PTL program

Way to go Bishop!! I too came to these same thoughts when I left the church 30 years ago. Thank god for Oprah. Her Super Soul Sunday connected me with some amazing spiritual leaders (Zukav, Williamson, Tolle) and got me back into cultivating a spiritual life, one very different and far more real to me than my previous one long ago.

4:00-4:25 says a lot to me. I don't want to speak ill of the dead but we think as Christians that there are some levels of results we expect and if we don't get them we let the enemy creep in with doubt or partial belief as he said. I know he has ministered and saved a lot of souls from a place he didnt believe in so God bless him for that.

Thanks for inquiring. In my research I learned that my African ancestors were kidnapped and loaded onto The Good Ship Jesus. Forced to accept christianity at the end of a whip. Sometimes they’d kill them and hurry inside church and sing “Nearer My God To Thee” as they’d peek out the window to see if the nigga dead yet.
