- Reviewing the best mid-range Android smartphones as we hit 2024, boasting my favourite camera tech, top gaming performance and excellent specs to rival flagship phones. For a budget of around £300-£600 in the UK you can grab the Pixel 7a, Samsung's Galaxy A54 5G, the Xiaomi 13T and other mid-range marvels. If you can't afford the absolute best, here's the top options for a cheaper asking price.
If you're after an even cheaper handset, check out my reviews and round-ups of the greatest Android smartphones under £300 and £200.
Manufacturers like Google, Nothing, Samsung, Xiaomi and Realme all offer a selection of compelling smartphones at a mid-range asking price. The Pixel 7a is still the best around for camera performance but rivals like the OnePlus Nord 3 and Samsung's Galaxy A54 5G aren't far behind. The Nothing Phone 1 & 2 offer unique features like that Glyph lighting, plus premium bits such as wireless charging.
Meanwhile the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus is a bit of a mouthful but also a great mid-range smartphone, boasting impressive specs for a budget-friendly cost. That one should be launching globally soon. Don't sleep on the brilliant Xiaomi 13T for a bit more cash, while that Poco F5 Pro is one of my favourite mid-range phones for gaming.
So many to consider, so which is your personal favourite mid-range mobile?

I got a OnePlus Nord N30 5G a few months ago and love it. I paid about $250 plus tax for it when it was on sale during the holidays. Good performance, decent cameras, and amazing battery life
Just bought xiaomi 12tpro this 2024 and it's cheap but very good phone. 8+1 gen 1 , amoled, 200mp camera,120wncharging the beast

Getting the 4+5 treatment isn't it?
Thinking about the 13t pro but lots of reports of GPS and android auto problems and I'm wondering if the mediatek chip is the problem.
Good list and well presented. Would you be able to mention if the devices do work with WiFi calling with the UK carrier you are using for future videos?
Immediately jumped to your Best Mid-Range phones video when my very old phone accidentally fell and got smashed. Pixel 7a isn't available in my country so I got myself an Honor 90 coz it was next on my list, and I have to say; didn't regret it. I am enjoying my Honor 90 and I have you to thank for it. THANK YOU and CHEERS!

Did you run into the foggy camera issue?
To be honest with you I read your sentence and got an Eyebrow up because just now I knew there was an issue with that and I haven't seen any fog or dust, or anything at all going on my cameras at all and photos are the best I got from my previous smartphones in years@@CheersMate-
Xiaomi 13T seems like a no-brainer. It's really damn well rounded device with pretty much flagship camera with enormous sensor(bigger than in S23U). There's even a pretty decent 2x telephoto! I really like it! Probably will replace my slowly dying Mi11i as soon as there will be some cheap used unit.
Agree, even though I am not a Xiaomi fan.
I would buy it blind. But its a little too big. Prefer 69-71mm width, but mostly the phones that range are also too expensive.
@@NCSheriff7 ah, that's true, there are not that many smallish smartphones.
This was a huge help, thank you.😊
Bought myself a Xiaomi 13T and I've been using it for 3 months now. I'm really impressed with this phone, it has a nice big screen so watching some HDR content on this is literally eye candy. Its Dimensity 8200 Ultra chipset is also pretty good too, I've been playing some Genshin (high graphic settings 60fps) on it for half an hour and it did got warm but its not too intrusive. Also, that camera setup is very impressive thanks to that Leica lens on this phone. My ideal camera mode choice is Leica Authentic because I love the natural colours it produced on the photos I shot. Lastly, that 5000mAh battery inside is pretty sufficient for me. My everyday usage of it from fully charged only lasts 7 hours for me. As the owner of the Xiaomi 13T for 3 months, so far I never had any issues with it. This phone is a proper bargain and I had a steal of a deal too. On my first purchase, I got some free goodies which is a pair of wireless earbuds and a sports smart band!
Same here!
Thanks for the Info.
So you're dissapointed by its battery life?
@@pacingBlue I won't lie ....it doesn't last as long as other 5000mah phones
But I'm satisfied
@@olamilekanadefila7445 Thank you. From what I read here and there, 13t's battery life seems so & so. It's a pity, otherwise seems pretty good alternative as a faster samsung a54 or otherwise pretty balanced all-around phone package
Had the Xiaomi 13T for several days now and it has just been amazing. Upgraded from the Nokia G20 and the difference is like night and day. Performance is incredible with the Dimensity 8200-Ultra as I haven't experienced any lag whatsoever and the 144hz refresh rate on top of that is amazing. The cameras are also really good with the Leica lenses. Display is plenty bright even on sunny days. The stereo speakers are magnificent paired with Dolby Atmos as well. The only downside I've experienced is the battery which gets drained pretty fast from just simple daily use but I'm not too bothered by it because of its 67W charger. Overall it's a great phone and I would definitely recommend it to anyone with the budget.
Mediatek processor tend to do that. As the phone is learning on your usage trend. The battery life will be better after few days.
Hey, have you gotten the HyperOS update yet? Very curious to know if that helps with battery life.
@@jefflevy3557 at the moment I haven't gotten an update for HyperOS yet but I'm pretty sure Xiaomi is starting to roll it out early this year. The battery performance should be improved though
damn that sounds awesome, I tend to stay away from Xiaomi phones due to their lack of support and sort of closed software ( i heard they're pretty iffy about launchers!)
@@kaiserfakinaway5909 I usually tend to stick to launchers especially with my old Nokia G20 but upon first experience with Xiaomi's interface, I actually quite like it. It seems very clean and easy to navigate. The looks and animations are also nice
Cracking video mate, I just upgraded to a pixel 7a from a crappy Motorola E20 the difference is night and day 7a is a hell of a phone
Especially if you upgrade it to Android 14, runs much cooler and battery lasts a lot longer. 👍
Except it's doesn't do Android Auto!!!
@@davejohnson1889You need to search for that on Google, tells you what you need to do to get Android Auto working.
I have a Pixel 6a, which is still pretty good phone, saving up for the Pixel 8,which at reduced price can be a cracking deal.
Same. Hoping to upgrade to the Pixel 8 when the price goes down.
the 6a is the worst phone I've ever owned...'upgraded' from a Mi9 which was a better phone (despite Miui!) and screen was far better (more storage, more customisable etc etc etc.) If I could get a decent trade in price the 6a would be gone today!
Got myself a 13T Pro back in November, updated from the OG 9T Pro.. the phone is impressive, i felt the same feeling i felt when i got my 9T Pro!. Xiaomi is legendary

I'm very satisfied with my pixel 7a as non-game person. I really like the image that this phone could produce, battery also really great for me that majority only use for the camera, texting, and social media thingy. It last still about 20-25% until end of the day from morning full charge.
Wow. I have a pixel 7a also. But that's the reason I'm watching this. 7a doesn't even have a photo editor. Is running good but is missing a lot. I had s20 ultra before and I'm missing a lot of futures.
@@playervsgames9205I might be missing your point but there is an edit feature when you have a photo open in the Google photos app. Does that lack tools or features you'd normally expect?
@@playervsgames9205I'm a pixel 6a user and I'm also quite not satisfied. Mostly with the fingerprint sensor as it never unlocks when ur finger is dirty. My work involves getting my hands dirty so it gets super annoying having to enter my passcode.
I have the 7a and it's really good. I love the astrophotography option on there.
Just bought the Pixel 7A this week, after switching from a Samsung Galaxy A1 which actually was another great phone. I switched brands and I'm SERIOUSLY impressed with the Google brand. Sticking with Google for the foreseeable future.

Hi tech spurt magician,What would you recommend between pixel 7a and 6ro for someone who fancy camera?
You can get a Pixel 6A from Straight Talk in the US brand new for $200 currently. Bought one yesterday and love it.
Dont play any games for any significant time. It turns into a toaster oven instead of phone.
You wouldve been better off with S23 FE on Metro for $49.
Good video, I really like it and others yours
I've got a Pixel 7a and although I still need to adjust to the shorter battery lifespan (coming from a Poco F3) I couldn't be happier with the Google side of life. The photos are tremendous and the overall snappiness is amazing (even disabling Smooth Display)
Why disable smooth display?
Mediocre battery @@eternallife8898
How is the battery doing so far if I may ask? I also have a Poco F3 and I'm thinking about getting a Pixel 7a but I'm worried about the battery, the charging speed and the difference in size 🙂
@@dps896 I'd avoid google after my last phone - pixel 6 pro - within a year the battery life had decreased dramatically and by year 2 I was constantly having to charge it throughout the day. I've also had a pixel watch which had terrible battery life.

Love your reviews, not least of all for the Apple/Corden put downs, lol. I ordered the Nothing Phone 1. It arrives on Friday.
From Redmi Note 9 Pro (Pro Max in some countries) to Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G with its massive 12GB RAM, and 512GB ROM Configuration, and I think it's different from the first release of the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus (non 5G model), because mine has metal frame and Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support with HDR10/+ also!
