    Chant directed by the Maitrîse de Notre-Dame.
    The improvisations are due to organist Olivier Latry.

    Never heard anything like this before. I'm not surprised the church was packed with people: this music gives you such an energy, it really shows you the power of God.
    In Italy we can only dream of something like that, because guitars are played at mass, a real obscenity.
    And then they wonder why churches get empty.

      Notre Dame is (was) full because it's so famous. Last year, I went to other churches in Paris where the musicians are no less excellent (Saint-Eustache, Saint-Sulpice), but attendance is sparser. It's a bit sad.

      @@wilhufftarkin8543 what do you mean about Ireland? In July 2018, I attended weekday masses in Galloway, Wexford and Dublin with full attendance. On the other hand, the present organ at Notre Dame was built in 1868, almost 70 years after the French revolution.

      @@AlessandroSistiMusic I think so too, I was a few weeks before lockdown in Paris... It was a shame: the great and well known cathedrals were almost empty... Sometimes it seemed ridiculous: heavy sounding organ music for just a few people and the priest... Sad!

      I Hope so.
      You can read the books of Marga, a Spanish woman who receive internal voices from Jesus and Virgin Mary. They are written in Spanish, but a friend of Marga is translating them into English.

    It is a true mass of Catholic.
    I wish i could feel this emotions while participating in mass of south korea. I couldn't hear real organ sound in Mass even some church had been established pipe organ. We have to shout our joys to Jesus with pipe organ and choir.

      Les travaux de reconstruction après l'incendie du 15 Avril 2019, sont en très avancés.
      Toutes les professions liées à l'artisanat d'art de France ont répondu présent sans l'ombre d'un doute pour ce chantier exceptionnel.
      Une réouverture partielle est prévue pour les Jeux Olympiques de Paris, la réouverture totale est prévue le 8 Décembre 2024.
      Vous pourrez alors voir Notre Dame de Paris comme vous ne l'avez jamais vue, propre et lumineuse orgue compris.

    These organ videos from Notre Dame are dynamite. Every time I see that procession coming down the center aisle I get a strong reminder of the Catholic Church in its prime. That swinging censer leading the procession gets things ready for everything that follows.

    The organ is magnificent - in fact it comes from another world, but then the singing is almost comical. For this, they really need to have a huge choir in the loft just as in the days of Pierre Cochereau and Jehan Revert.

      The Maitrise was never in the Grand Orgue loft in the days of Pierre COCHEREAU or anyone else. They always sang in the quire with the Orgue de Choeur.

      I completely agree. It is always like that in Notre Dame and many churches in America as well. They have a lovely choir that could perfectly carry the tune then drown them out with several cantors who have individual microphones and sing over everyone else. However, it seems that they pick people who have no sense of tonality or any ability to count/subdivide. It's a shame, really.

    Will someone with a greater knowledge of Latin tell me, in the fourth stanza, they seem to be using a different word than "praedixit" ... or perhaps in singing, it has a unique pronunciation? Thank you.

      I heard some interpretations of this chant and all are pronouncing like that... (so it's a specific pronouncation i think)

      @@bamaplanter5904 yes, they say "respondit" - "(the Angel) answered," rather than "foretold" -- the verse I know there is, "In albis sedens, Angelus/prædixit mulieribus,/ 'in Galilæa est Dominus", and on from there. I love all the verses of this and how they tell the story! We sang it today with emphasis on the verses about St. Thomas, who doubted until he saw the wounds of Our Lord... "blessed are they who have not seen, and yet have believed". :)

      I do think it is a fine Cathedral choir...those doing the recording are not placing microphones correctly... I might have shared the same opinion - however, the cantors are miked and sing over the choir thus individual voices seem to stick out. Basically not a properly mixed recording as you might find in English cathedrals.

      Hopefully when they rebuilt it, they will use the beautiful high altar of King Louis. However, they’ll probably put another hideous NO altar.

    Beautiful organ sound but not fond of the improvised music that over powered the voices! And a beautiful chant that was rewritten for a choir that should have known better! This is a performance piece, not a worship piece!

    I like this music. Great sound. Lovely. But in Catholism I miss the gospel and explanation of the Bible. I come only to church to hear the words of God, what He tell us in the holy book the Bible. For me now I see a lot of puppet theater in this church.
    With people that are walking with cross and making smoke. Kissing the altar. Abide Maria, and other people born and live with sins. We have to abide only God the Father, God Son Jesus Christ and the Holy spirit and no others.

    Sorry, not sorry, but cantors trying to direct the congregation to sing with their arms flaying about is one of the stupidest things. Get these people some decent musical education and let them read off the sheet music if they want to sing so badly.

      Hello, if you talk about the cantor in the bottom left he's just directing the choir. That's actually a normal way to move arms while singing (at least in France), it's transmit the way to sing the song and the tempo.
