Glee has aged badly, and that coming from someone who was a Gleek. I haven’t bought merch but I used to watch the show every Thursday night on TV and I’ve always had a gut feeling that she didn’t have to act as Rachel, and that she was genuinely shady, selfish, entitled, insensitive, and plain rude. She is a D list actress with the attitude of an A lister. I always wondered why Cory was her boyfriend and Johnathan was her bff because they seem so kind, chill, and the opposite of all the things she is.
Amina Jama this is so accurate!! Glee was good in the past, but I tried to watch Glee earlier this year and I was shocked at how awful it is. Glee is the example of stereotypes and negative stereotypes at that. Literally every stereotype that is in the show is portrayed negatively.
Maybe they’re “too nice”. The downfall of many really kind people is that they’re too tolerant of other people’s behaviour (think Smithers from the Simpsons lol),

Jonathan and Cory seem to have this quality of kind people (and by all accounts, Cory was and Jon is a sweetie) who always see the best in everyone. And I guess that includes people with Lea's attitude.
Honestly, I’ve always liked her music. She’s really talented, but it never distracted me from her obviously awful personality. So many people have complained about her in the past. She always seemed to be attention seeking and stuck up to me. Her apology was pathetic. She pretty much apologized for the way people perceived her and her words? Way to throw all the blame on them Lea! That’s not taking responsibility at all.
Also, a little edit: I never could stand Rachel on the show and it’s kind of hilarious how Lea turned out to be exactly like her.

I think part of the reason why Lea wasn't cancelled earlier is because for a while there was pity for her because of Cory. There is no excuse for her anti-black/superiority and it does say something that she was apparently an awful person before she was famous, like during broadway. I am always on the fence about cancel culture for most people but I feel like Lea needs to be cancelled for awhile. Her awful attitude appears to be her natural personality and everything about her is insincere. She jumped on the George Floyd bandwagon and her apology was not sincere. It's also telling that she is among the least successful former glee cast members. Jenna (who won a tony) and Amber went on to successful broadway, Darren criss won alot of rewards for versace, but Lea was one of the most talented and you have to wonder if people just didn't want to work with her.
I agree. Tbh, I think that was part of the reason why a lot of people liked her (me included to an extent - I never cared about her music/career outside of Glee really). I felt sorry for her after Cory and thought oh wow, she has such grace dealing with such a loss, so I was rooting for her in that sense...but then there was rumours about her years ago. I'm glad that everyone else has been successful though, despite the treatment they received (not just from her but Ryan Murphy, who imo was complement in her behaviour)

I think for me it was that she has such seemingly genuine friendships with people like JGroff and Darren, and dated Cory, and all of them have such good reputations as being really sweet and great to work with that I tended to give her the benefit of the doubt that maybe people were just *wanting* to see her as a mean girl/diva. But yeah, obviously that wasn't the case!

I grew up watching Glee and being a Theatre Kid Myself, I adored Lea Michele. But, this doesn’t surprise me. I remember when Naya Rivera outed out Lea and no one believed her. And then, there are people who believe that statement she gave. Saying that’s it not a race issue. Once you’ve said something, you can’t take it back.

I was at a taping for Glee for one of their sectionals/nationals episodes and my sense was that Lea Michele was just awful to everyone. I think she was basically Ryan Murphy's little pet so felt like she could just do whatever she liked. She came over during a break to talk to the audience (which was mostly fans who had basically "won" a raffle to be in the audience as extras). This was nice enough but they wanted to resume filming (and I was getting bored as hell so I just wanted it to be over with too) and she straight up ignored the director and just kept talking to the audience. All the rest of the cast was waiting up on stage to get things going and the director was basically begging her to come back to work and she didn't even acknowledge him. So I don't know that she is racist but I would pretty much believe any bad thing anyone said about her based on the vibe I got that day.

Rewatched the show a year ago on Netflix when it came on in the UK, but only the first 3 seasons and literally wrote down everything that was problematic about it then and also some plot lines that people have forgotten about like the fact that one of Rachel Berry’s adoptive dads was black in season one when we see a picture of them.

I started to be less active on stan twitter when I went college in 2017 and each year I started to really care about her less and less then she announced she was having a baby and that got me all excited during quarantine and now all of this blew up in her face and I’m laughing. Honestly it adds up.

I think she was/is racist. Just because she was a bully to everyone doesn’t change the fact that she might’ve still looked down on certain people SPECIFICALLY because of their race. Her black co-stars on Glee mentioned that she would use micro-aggressions to belittle them and micro-aggressions stem from racist ideologies. So I think it wouldn’t be a big reach to consider her racist imo. Or perhaps she is not in fact racist but thought she was doing something by making slick “questionable” comments to them, but I personally don’t think so.

Before hearing the allegations, I will admit I thought, “just because you don’t like one person who happens to be black, doesn’t mean you are anti black,”....but then I started connecting the dots to Naya (prior to watching the video and seeing what was said), and then the tweet and evidence you showed made me immediately see she is anti black and we do not stand for that. Being anti black isn’t just killing a black man, or enacting violence. Anti black is also microaggresions, and other forms of bullying and hatred in which someone’s blackness is used to demean them.
Thinking about the fact that Naya was part Black too, and Lea hated her.

Ex-gleek here still a Chris Colfer stan tho. I've always been side-eyeing here since day one. I'm so glad she got exposed.
I was a glee from day 1. I was a Lea Michele fan from 2010-2015. I loved her! When I met her at her Brunette Ambition book signing in NYC, it was rushed by her big security guards who were on each side of her. She did not take time with her fans. She has not welcomed back to that Barnes and Nobles. After that, I became less of a fan of hers since she did not talk to her fans. I went to Chris Colfer book signings and he is so nice, down to earth and takes time with his fans. I know a fan of her from Spring Awakening days, he went to Louder signing in NYC, waited 4 1/2 hours in 25 degrees weather, Lea comes 45 mins later and security guards rushed them. I knew people who went to her Build Series interview, she told them that she will sign after her interview but she just ignored them and left right after her interview. Now this issue about being an awful co-star and racist on glee, I am so happy I am not a fan of her anymore.

no but that bit about intuition is so true. been in fandoms for over a decade now, and while of course it's impossible to find anyone that's completely unproblematic (and that's not the goal either), I have never stanned anyone who turned out to be as much of a big mess as Lea or anyone similiar. I just get a feeling to stay away from certain people.
With Lea there was definitely the incident where she complained about not being cast as a Latina, but it was also just how complacent she was with how the show went? Like we knew from Cory eg that he spoke up when the tour got too intense, we know how Chris wrote his episode so that characters that usually wouldn't be getting attention like this got more fleshed out, that Dianna was at odds with the producers, it was just very noticable when a glee actor did something bc the show would usually reprimand them for it with shitty storylines for their character. Yet Lea always got the most positive attention in such a toxic work environment. Makes you think

Sophie,you’ve just gained about 5-10 new subscribers rn I’m telling all my friends about you because honestly you’ve just spoken the truth and I’m real glad that like the world is finally shining a light on this terrible issue which is racism and for you to be using your platform to spread awareness about racism,and your opinion on this whole lea Michele thang Cause I’m pretty much on the same boat as you I was a huge lea Michele Stan like she was just so amazing to me at that time in my life as she powered through the loss of her then boyfriend(May he rest in piece💔🙏)and then coming out with a album,book and finding love again but when I started noticing videos of how people’s experiences meeting lea I was like amm..something is definitely goin on behind the senses... like for a woman to star on a show of including people no matter what they’ve been through,the colour of there skin,how they look and much much more..then finding out from former co-stars,and extras that she treated them so so poorly..and I’m not saying she’s the only one in the world or on the set of glee like we have our queens we all know who they are who are spreading awareness about racism and using there platforms to do this (and I am just gonna mention some of the glee cast cuz this vid is about a former cast member)but like Amber has been sharing videos,stories,sharing links to a go fund me,and Jenna,Dianna,Kevin,Alex are also doing the same thing(and btw I’m sorry if I left out anyone their)But the moral of the story thank you Sophie much love💗
