    You asked for what we thought of the species? Here is my quick take on which class each species really leans into. I can only hope they will become the new standard for dnd ;):
    Aasimar: Barbarian - extra resistances are always nice and a emergency pocket heal to pick someone up could be clutch
    Dragonborn: Barbarian - extra resistances are always nice and the new knock back feature could be handy to group people up for a breath attack follow up
    Dwarf: Barbarian - extra resistances and the extra HP are always nice, not to mention the Tremorsense could be clutch
    Elf: What, who would play an Elgi? Khazukan Kazakit-ha!
    Gnome: Barbarian - Advantage on our weakest saving throws? Yes please and the extra utility doesnt hurt
    Goliath: Barbarian - Teleporting 30 feet, could be very handy when needing to chase after those wizards
    Halfling: Barbaian - Makes it much easier getting to the front line the wizard gets in your way before you have a chance too. Plus, we are now quite good at stealth, so that could be a strat
    Human: Barbaian - allows for the magic origin feats to pick up utility and the heroic inspiration die is never going to hurt
    Orc: Wizard - bonus action to dash means less wasted spell slots on misty step and Relentless Endurance means wizards can stop pretending to be the squishiest class in the game when they can easily have both the highest AC and saves compared to Barbarians or even Fighters, both in 5.14 and 5.24. Seriously, I did an mini campaign as an Orc wizard, and it was damn good.
    Tiefling: Barbarian - extra resistances are always nice, not to mention that having darkness to avoid a combat all together or a firebolt to ignite an explosive from a distance could be quite handy

      @@ErrorlessQuill9 Well...I started writing this just so that someone could have a laugh, but I got to admit that about half way through I noticed that I was not really BSing the reasons for each species. So, this also kind of suggests just how much more flexible the new species system is vs the old. The old ran into the feels bad issue of proficiencies overlap or not having the right attribute bonuses, which this new version has eliminated.

    It confused me in MotM, and it confuses me now; why does the Aasimar not get to pick between intelligence, wisdom, or charisma for their abilities. All other species seem to allow it. But Aasimar must focus on charisma to utilize fear... No cleric aasimar for us apparently

    • @ErrorlessQuill9
      @ErrorlessQuill9  Před 28 dny +3

      I'm honestly not sure. Guess you and everyone else will have to get DM approval to homebrew it. It's an easy fix, but it should have been included from the get-go.

    Given backwards compatability, the Goliaths can stack with the Giant Foundling background from Glory of the Giants, picking the giant power from their Lineage and also a different giant for Strike of the Giants and the subsequent level 4+ feat.
    You skip the 2024 Origin Feat to do this - taking Strike of the Giants from Giant Foundling - but it seems insanely good for any martial. Especially with the 2024 Hill Giant’s auto-prone on attacks.

    I still wish heavenly wings had a more support based design, causing extra healing instead of damage or maybe letting you guard a near by ally with your wings, giving temp hp instead of a bonus to damage.
    Just feels like it would be a way to make it more unique as opposed to the aggressive purging light of inner radiance.

    Of note in regards to high elves getting Detect magic, with the change to ritual casting becoming part of the spell and not a class feature you can cast it as many times as you want as a ritual even if you don't have a single spell slot

    Nice video. I thought they stated that half races were in the new PHB, but just as flavor only. So, you can have a Goliath mom and a Hafling dad, but you can not cherry pick, mix max the traits you get out of it, you simply choose which one species that you take after. I personally love that change, so I hope it is still in the PHB. However, I am sure some min maxers out there may not be a fan.

    • @ErrorlessQuill9
      @ErrorlessQuill9  Před 29 dny +1

      Correct, now you just pick which parent you take after the most and take those traits. I think that works perfectly fine.

    While there is potential to do way more healing with healing hands than previously (was based on your level not on your proficiency), I think the old way was more flavorful because you got to choose from three subraces at level 3, now all Aasimars will act the same way. For Dragonborn, I don't see breath weapon more versatile than 2014 counterpart, unless I missed something, all I see as the main difference is they increased the damage output instead of d6 now you roll d10s. It is annoying that most races now have darkvision.

    • @ErrorlessQuill9
      @ErrorlessQuill9  Před 23 dny

      The change to the Aasimar’s Healing Hands makes it more relevant at lower levels, and it has the potential to do more healing even at the higher levels than the original version of the trait, though the actual average might be lower at higher levels. Dice is also generally more fun for players than just a base number. Aasimar getting to choose their Celestial Revelation is more flavorful in my opinion because it can make for interesting RP on the player’s side; you’re no longer beholden to the DM to decide if your Celestial Revelation changes, which is now something both you and the DM can role with.
      Dragonborn can now use their Breath Weapon a number of times equal to their Proficiency Bonus per Long Rest. Previously it was once per Short or Long Rest. Also, the damage now scales better, as it’s the same leveling as cantrips; the original did not scale that way. Additionally, the new Dragonborn can replace one of the attacks granted by their Attack action; previously it took a whole action. This is better for classes with the Extra Attack feature.

      I would have to disagree. Aasimar has always been one of the strongest options, and I thing it continues to be so. Question, i am new to D and D, just started my free trial on D and D beyond, I love Dark Elves (Drow) but the sub elf race is not available, the comments say buy the 2014 PHB. Would buying the 2024 PHB give me this option too so i don't need to buy both 2014 and 2024? Thanks again a newbie to D and D.

    • @davescrams
      @davescrams Před 29 dny +2

      Yes, if you wait until the 2024 PHB is released, you can buy it to get access to the new Elf species which includes the Drow lineage as an option. Enjoy and welcome to D&D!

    • @ErrorlessQuill9
      @ErrorlessQuill9  Před 29 dny +1

      Correct. The 2024 Player’s Handbook will have the new Elf with all three of its lineages: Drow, High Elf, and Wood Elf. You’ll also get all of the other options for the 2024 Player’s Handbook as well, so there’s value there!

    • @MannonMartin
      @MannonMartin Před 29 dny +1

      Are you buying as a player or a DM? Keep in mind that the 2024 PHB and races are designed to be played with the updated ruleset in that book. If your DM is still using 2014 rules you likely won't be able to use races from the 2024 book. If you're DMing then you should think about which ruleset you want to use. 2014 PHB is decent and well understood. The 2024 one does have some incremental upgrades, however. But the 2024 book also doesn't suit everyone's tastes.
      Personally I'm planning to try running the 2024 rules which I've already preordered, but I still have the 2014 books to fall back on if I don't like something or I can always import rules from similar games. But you don't need to buy everything.
      Honestly I wish that DNDBeyond didn't kill the microtransactions. I think it was nice for players to be able to just purchase the race, classes, and subclasses they wanted to use and not have to buy an entire book or make their DM buy it.

    • @ErrorlessQuill9
      @ErrorlessQuill9  Před 29 dny +1

      I’ll be buying for both. I mostly DM, so I want to make sure my players have access to all of the new improved options. But my other DMs are going to move forward with the new rules as well once they release, so at least one of us needs to have access to it ASAP 🤪

    The Goliaths are in Volo's Guide to Monsters not in Tome of Foes, but they do appear as you said in the Monsters of the Multiverse book. Why are players are all obsessed with making these races the most powerful they can be?

      @ErrorlessQuill9  Před 23 dny

  • @videogollumer
    @videogollumer Před 19 dny +1

    The the Gnomes, Humans, and Tieflings are the only decent ones; all the others suck one way or another. Goliaths and Dragonborn are too showy and OP with the hulking out and spectral wings respectively, Dwarves and Halflings are boring and nerfed, the Elves aren't consistent with the ones in Monsters of the Multiverse, and being able to choose your Aasimar transformation every time you transform ruins the flavor. As for Orcs, it didn't make too much sense for them to have powerful build, but it feels like they did very little to replace it.
