    I appreciate your video on this subject; well done ✅. I love minimalist art as it portrays a certain amount of order in the defined lines.

    Nice work! Thank you for the reference to Michael Fried's “Art and Objecthood” (1967).

    I'd like to watch a video on impressionists! Although I don't know enough about art history to make a choice between the two subjects. So, I hope to watch something on both :) Your videos are great :)

    How come minimalism tried to go to the lowest art possible when the suprematism did the same but even simpler?

    • @innocentoctave
      @innocentoctave Před 7 lety +3

      That's a good question. Malevich and Mondrian both produced art that looks very simple. The principal difference between them and the minimalists seems to be that both of the earlier painters had a rather mystical streak, and their abstract arrangements of pigment on canvas were guided by programmatic ideas (Suprematisn, neoplasticism, even theosophy) that went beyond pure aesthetics.
      Stella seems to have believed that in 'Die Fahne höch' he was creating an object that was devoid of referred meaning or symbolism: "what you see is what you see" (1964). Personally, I doubt whether such a thing is possible, since colours, shape, scale and materials will always have implications for viewers that the artist can't control.
      Viewers might also ask why Stella - if his intention was truly to eliminate any hint of expressionism - drew his stripes freehand rather than masking the edges the give a clean line. The choice of title - from the Nazi Horst Wessel Lied - also refers well beyond itself.

    I’m sorry to point this out, but you are quoting the Wikipedia entry on Stella, almost verbatim, and without proper credit.
