This final stage of truffle training can result in a dilemma for the novice trainer and their dog. When you are not finding truffles is it because you are in the wrong place or is the dog not up to the task yet?

Thank you so much for this great video! I'm just in the difficult transition from garden-truffle-hunting to real in-situ searching with my Lagotto Caesar. Just the right lesson to take from you!

Thanks for your thanks, let me know how it goes with Caesar and if you come across any problems during this stage I'd love to hear about them!!

Howdy Lady. This was a very good video. I've been wanting to see a video of a veteran dog with a pup. Jessie is coming along. Really looking forward to seeing her a another year or two. In the meantime she has a hole lotta puppy energy to use. I can imagine the older dogs get a bit frustrated with at times. Thanks for the video. Have a great day 🌞.

Thanks Victor, it's interesting looking back at footage of the dog and seeing her progress over these last 6 months. How are things with you?

@The Real Truffle Hunters Hmmm,OK you asked. I'm recovering from foot surgery. I'm not sure if I mentioned this over the last few weeks. I had emergency surgery on my right foot approximately 3 weeks ago now. I'm diabetic and got a infection in the foot. When I got in to the hospital things happened very quickly. I've never been in the hospital before. They did the surgery and the doctor was able to save the foot and all the toes. But it was VERY close. I still have several weeks before I'll be able to go back to work. They did remove a great deal of flesh and it needs to grow back and cover the open wound area. Other than that I'm doing fine 😁. But really when I woke up after surgery and saw I had all my toes it put things into perspective. I could have bitched and wined about it all but I didn't. Because I was aware of just how bad it could have been. So I'm very grateful. 🙏 Now I need to focus on healing and getting out fishing in the next couple of weeks for spring salmon. And obviously keeping my diabetes in check. So hopefully I'll be able to get my dog this summer and start hunting truffles this next autumn/winter. Sa I watch your videos of Jessie I'm thinking "never a dull moment " She certainly seems to be full not just of energy but also of love. Truly a wonderful dog and companion. Have a wonderful day 😊.

@The Real Truffle Hunters thank you very much. Here's something I want to mention about how wonderful CZcams can be. I got out of surgery and into my hospital bedroom a little after 6:00 Pacific time zone. Well the only CZcams "live" I watch is that night. So I logged in and mentioned to the shows host and his viewers that I had just gotten out of surgery and it went well but I wasn't going to be able participate in the rest of the "live" because I needed to rest. Now understand most of the viewers are regulars like me. So the outpouring comments and concerns were very helpful to me. We're like a big family. And it was a absolutely wonderful experience to have at that time. So for all the complaints I hear about CZcams at times I have to say it's been a wonderful experience for me. I have so many friends from across my country and around the world that I never would have known otherwise. This includes yourself. So thank you all. And yes, it's a wonderful world 🌎 ❤️ 😊🙏.

I have a 1 year old cocker and his skills at finding any scent i tell him to look for is amazing, but we have yet to find a real truffle out in the wild (South East UK), i have 5 training pots i drop around in woods, and bury ,he gets super excited when i have him smell the truffle oil pot and runs off and finds the pots so quickly its very impressive especially as he is only 1.
It is disheartening tho not finding the real thing,i dont know if there even are any truffles where we go we are just hoping.

This is the eternal problem - has the dog not transitioned or are there no truffles in the place you are taking the dog? Will you by any chance be at the UK truffle festival on Saturday? If so come and chat with me and we can swap notes

@@TheRealTruffleHunters I didn't know about this truffle festival and on googling it isn't that far from me, but looks like you need tickets and they are sold out :( thats a shame
My boy isn't transitioned ,ive only buried my training pots in the wild for him to find which he finds easily, and we have no idea if there really are any truffles.
I use the plastic pots you find inside kinder eggs with tiny holes in them with truffle oil inside

@@nicholasparsons5254 Never mind, maybe you can go on an organized trip to some known truffle spots, you will get the chance to test out your dog's skills in the wild.

Or you can have a session where your cocker shadows a more experienced dog.

From your information on behavioural traits that are preferable that I have seen throughout your vids, I think he will be a good dog to train.
