Half in the Bag Episode 76: Into the Storm and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

- Mike and Jay are joined by a construction worker named “Rich” “Evans” to talk about Into the Storm, a found footage rip off of Twister, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a modern day rip off of your childhood heroes.
- Zábava
Rich was far too opinionated on Into the Storm. Feel like he really crossed the line this time.
@@Deepfrog9 omg, he wouldn't shut up about it
How dare you insult my lady Rich Evans!!!!
Jewish is not a race it is a religion lol oh how can you be mean to those poor Jews? The horror
Half in the Bag 76: Rich contemplates life for 13 minutes then talks about Turtles
The peak of entertainment
First of all, great avatar. Second, this is incredibly accurate.
It's borderline experimental
You misspelled "pizza" horribly..
Rich is eyefucking that pizza so much this needs an X rating.
Did Rich just show up for the free pizza?
I hope so.
If that was the case, I respect him even more
Did you see that pizza? While watching this episode I had to order a pizza myself.
I would.
The pizza showed up for the free Rich Evans.
He was too old to have grown up with TMNT. He doesn't care. I think Mike and Jay were more of the age group of the people who played with the toys and watched the cartoons in the 80s and early 90s.
8 years later and literally no one ever brings up Boyhood in film discussion.
It took twelve years to make and only six months to forget.
I completely forgot it existed until just now when I watched this video. HOW EMBARRASSING
Rich really does look like a construction guy but not like one that works hard, he looks like he could be a corrupt union leader.
I would pay to see a movie about Rich Evans as a corrupt union leader
"ON THE MILWAUKEEFRONT"
Rich looks like the guy on the job site that takes the newbies under his wing to show them how to loaf off and still look busy.
"Mr.DuBoissssssssssss" - Everart Claire
Yeah.
I was 12 minutes in before I realize Rich Evans hadn't moved the entire time.
He would make a great male model.
But he moved at 6:20 ...
Rich staring blankly was the best part of the review, and I'm guessing better than any moment in Into The Storm
We need more Richard Evans cutaways
altoidyoda He’s also so fucking fat
Rich is a fucking pro to not laugh at most of the crap Mike is spewing.
And by crap I mean gold.
I stopped watching Ninja Turtles 45 minutes in. Unfortunately, I couldn't walk out of the airplane I was on for the next 6 hrs.
Rich Evans looks like a human version of Bob the Builder, and looks as pale as Cypher Raige.
That pizza is so dense, every single slice has so many things going on.
That's just his way of making the best pizza possible
BrickToughneck its like poetry
He might have gone too anchovie though in a few places.
Impending Rival 2 its so fookin dense m8
Impending Rival 2 He's cutting down those slices of pizza like they're butter, they're kind of worthless.
The fact that Rich is the only one who goes for the pizza is so perfect.
I just found this channel and my life is now complete. Haven't laughed this hard in a long time.
Same!
@The Rotten💯 I can't even remember the last movie I watched.
@therotten6152Geez you guys are cynical. There's plenty of great movies these days. Watch their catch up Half in the Bag videos, they give plenty of great recommendations every year.
i love how Rich just agrees to do all the shitty skit ideas Mike told him to, at the expense of himself. even just sitting there for like 15 minutes (probably longer considering the parts of the discussion they cut out). he must be a really cool dude to be friends with.
Agreed
Nah Rich is just into domination.
The pizza was totally worth it it seems
Oh neat, metaphorical Rich Evans fellatio.
@@Tetragrammaton22He has said on a BotW that he has an embarrassment kink

Totally disagree.. Boyhood is the Boyhood of modern cinema.
IT TOOK 12 YEARS TO BE CALLED THE GREATEST FILM EVER MADE
But it's great.
"I saw dark movies when I was a kid, and I'm fine."

Either Mike is too self-aware, or that was a subconscious reflex. Either way, his brain knows he's lying.
He may not have noticed it... but his b r a i n did

please make a t-shirt of Rich Evans as the sitting and silently waiting construction guy
hell, i'll design it for free

I will make this.

I laughed so hard at rich showing up and then not saying anything and not making any type of expression, so fubby

That pizza looks fantastic.
Maybe this is a bad time to have a slice of pizza of my own...
Every slice is so dense. There's so much going on.
splewy I'm ordering right now. It's gonna be great.
splewy The Pizza's greatness is stylistically designed to be that way, we can't undo that, but we can diminish the effects of it.
Hamster Whopper Make sure you get pepperonis on it. Pepperoni is the key to all of this, since it's a spicier topping than we've ever had before.
They found my biggest complaint at 25:56-there's nothing preventing a *great* Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film from being made. TMNT has succeeded in other media (most notably, for me, in the 2003 series). Granted, I like this film, and I like the 1990 original and Secret of the Ooze. But if I take off my nostalgia glasses, I can see that those are enjoyable but deeply flawed films. Such obvious flaws aren't inherent to the premise, so why do they keep showing up? Is it because, as Mike and co. suggest, the filmmakers see the Turtles as nothing more than a marketing tool for toys and assorted merchandise? Even so, that doesn't excuse them. The Lego Movie is a 100 minute commercial, but that doesn't stop it from being a perfectly fine film (and a deeper one than TMNT 2014, and one with no flaws as obvious as the latter's). Beast Wars: Transformers was a series made to sell multiple toys of the same characters, but that doesn't stop it from being a good series.
I really sympathize with Fantastic Four fans today.
Rich eating that pizza is pure cinematic bliss.
Rich Evans, man. Super spooky. RIght when I wasn't sure anymore wether or not he is greenscreened in, he clears his throat.
I always laugh every time a car is thrown up in the air, there is always someone holding down the horn. All movies do this! Every time you watch a movie, wait for a cop car to be thrown around and it will always make the sound of a siren winding down. Every truck before it crashes honks continuously as they are about to hit something: 13:26
It’s 2020, specifically October, 2020. This episode is timeless. Hilarious still. A classic...forever
Its October 2021, another year of being a classic
It’s October 2022. Civilization has collapsed
It is 2022, specifically September 10th, 2022. The Queen of England is dead.
You are correct. This episode will have a longer life, in the end.
It is 2024. Specifically, May 2024. The world is falling apart but thankfully, this episode remains a classic.

Rich Evans is the picture of serenity. I want to be so Zen. he really find his "happy place".
truly hypnotic.
TMNT could've used more friendly bartenders.
WITH ENDLESS OPTIONS FOR RENEW. with endless options for renew
Very cool of them to add the green tint in honor of TMNT. A fine tribute.
Kinda surprised Jay and Mike don't bring up the craziest editing ever in the climax when Megan Fox falls off the tower thing as the camera follows her down, then pans up to watch her falling from higher up again... czcams.com/video/vhGPPWayeqk/video.htmlm10s
Hurts my brain.
***** What the hell is happening?!
+Brad Leclerc What the-
That is INSANE. I had to watch it several times and still don't understand what they were trying to achieve.
Haven't seen the full movie, just the scene you linked, but that is messed up. Also, just moments later, they have a chain of them holding her up, and you see the top guy in the chain still holding on, then it immediately cuts to all of them up there with one pulling her up. It made no sense.
Also in the scene directly after when he throws the knife at Megan Fox they then reuse that exact scene to have him throw a knife at the turtles...
In the Bay-Cut they made her say maclunkey before she drops
For those who don't know... the original comic book origin of Marvel's Daredevil was that as a kid Matt Murdock saw someone about to be hit by a truck, he ran to shove that person out of the way and Murdock not only got hit by the truck nut was also hit/contaminated by a radioactive canister that fell from that truck... this gave him his blindness and his super powers.
Why did I go through all that?
Well... the original comic book origin of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles piggybacks off the Daredevil origin story... that canister that hits young Murdock rolls into the sewer where, you guessed it, several turtles and a rat are mutated. Splinter is representative somewhat of Stick from Daredevil as the wise martial arts master who trains the kids... similarly, the Foot is obviously a riff on the Hand from Daredevil.
It really helps to know all the Daredevil stuff to "get" the turtles... and to that end I wish we could get a grim/gritty Daredevil-esque movie about the TMNT as I think that could be done really well.
Rich is SO FUNNY. Idk why but him sitting silently is the probably the funniest thing I've seen in the past few months
13:35
I enjoy that the truck honked:
1. At all
2. With the fading out doppler effect sound, when it should have been the exact opposite doppler effect sound, as it was getting closer.
It's good to see middle age turtles still playing youthful roles.
What, Rich Evans is not going to show off his plumber’s crack?
Too sexy for CZcams.
Fantastic Mr. Fox was a kids movie and it was amazing. Even for adults. That's NOT an excuse.
He means that saying "it may be a steaming pile of shit, but it's just a kids movie so it's ok" is not an excuse
Any kid would be bored to tears in fantastic mr fox
@@joshuabunting882 my kids liked it, but they are big roald Dahl fans.

@@m0rthaus From six months ago, my dude.
The first two minutes of this video are the greatest thing ever committed to any recording ever. They are perfect and without flaw in every way.
It's shocking how easy it is to completely ignore Rich, even when he's in the middle of every shot
That’s his self-defense mechanism.
I was hoping to watch Rich eat that entire pizza by himself.
Ninja Turtles actually started out as a parody of the grimdark culture that the comics of that era started incorporating. It was sort of an outlaw comic when it first started but then blew up. I wanna say there was a specific book they were parodying but I can't remember if that's true or not
Daredevil
I love you RedLetterMedia, but I still want to see Boyhood because I have a soft spot for Richard Linklater.
Also, it took 12 years to make. Did I mention that? It took 12 years to make. It's a masterpiece.
the first Ninja Turtles movie IS a masterpiece.
This video is a great advertisement for pizza.
It just sits there in the middle of the room... barely touched... taunting you... it knows you want it...

Lol
1:55 Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague
Lol
There's something really depressing about that TMNT rock band.
9:18
You're welcome..
♡
At least with transformers, there were some stupid entertaining moments like Optimus riding a giant robo dinosaur that breathes fire. TMNT just hurt me to watch. It physically pained me to watch it, I had a god dam head ache the whole movie
Rich appears to be nonchalantly ignoring everything around him but in reality, he is driven mad by the sensation of his leg slowly falling asleep.
That's right, Jay.
N0Lif3 that’s right, Susan
You said it, Rich. Boyhood really is the greatest movie of all time
19:34 Jay giving Rich some dirty look 😂
I'm 9 min into this.... and am reminded why this is the best channel on YT. Rich man, you don't get paid enough.
I had this on in the background while doing chores, and I completely forgot that Rich Evans was even in the room until I looked back at the screen. Brilliant.
Learnt a lot from you guys, How to interpret movies and what should be admired and what shouldn't be admired.. Keep it up Redlettermedia.. Kudos
There is an age where people are supposed to stop being into the Ninja Turtles??? Huh.
I like this episode. I can rewind and fast forward to where I was based on how much Rich Evans has consumed pizza.
I just love their sarcasm on Boyhood and in general. When a movie that everyone knows is bad story-wise but has something about that is very unique, very art-house, very artistic and indy about it the critics go in to a writing frenzy. Running in the streets of their little hipster neighborhood proclaiming this is the greatest movie EVAR. lmao I was just waiting for the blood. XD
this reminds me of memento
I remember when I first saw Memento and I really liked it....
Then every one of my university subjects tried to jam it into coursework and I really started to get sick of it.........

@@tastyloaf5487 I assume all your professors also made you watch 10,000 BC and the Disney classic Dinosaur.
I was once at a party in grad school when a guy took the time to explain to me why the first Ninja Turtles film is a cinematic masterpiece.
To this day, I don't know if he was sincere or fucking with me.
Omg, how is that even a question?
The original from the 80's is absolutely brilliant

Oh, Mikey!!
I'm only half convinced Rich Evans is actually in that room
Rich Evans displays more acting ability with his silent state than both the movies did... Combined.
Ohgawd, Rich's pokerface. Kept laughing and needing to rewind a bit.
First two minutes of this are best part. I was similarly stunned that I didn't end up hating the TMNT movie.
Holy shit, between Legend of Hercules and TMNT, Mike's standards have gone significantly down since his plinkett reviews.
At least with TMNT I get the impression that he personally doesn't care about the franchise/character, so fuck it, the movie's not that bad. Unlike the Star Trek/Star Wars reviews where there is clearly a more personal appreciation that comes through, even with the over-exaggerated character of Mr. Plinkett.
Screwface Romeo
The plinkett Star wars prequel reviews were easily the most thorough and comprehensive film critiques you could find on the internet. Sure there's a lot of dark humor to make it more palatable, but it's really difficult to swallow that the same guy who wrote hours of material going through what makes the Star Wars Prequels such failure, would be the kind of throw his hands up and give a film a free pass because "Fuck it, it's a kid's film with a dumb premise"
GreenGimmick
I never gave a shit about tmnt either, but that didn't make the same juvenile fart and sex jokes, lazy storytelling and god awful design and camera work any less apparent.
BlackBeWhite2k7 Plinkett reviews are perhaps the most thorough and comprehensive film critiques in video form, but the AgonyBooth has done it way longer in text form. Literally line by line, scene by scene breakdowns in their recaps.
Axel Delavaux Finally , someone with common sense. Unlike this hater BlackBeWhite2k7 .
This is like when Zero Punctuation didn't like Last of Us, so he had his next review be Ride to Hell Retribution.
Only fair. Ride to Hell is the most amazing game ever birthed from the minds of geniuses.
Tasty Loaf Really it’s a game about the next generation. Ride to Hell’s portrayal of women is very brave and very feminist. I’m proud to say Ride the hell should be next to knack 2 and super Mario brothers 2 as game of the year for eternity.
@@tastyloaf5487 You think just some regular geniuses created Ride To Hell haha. It's clearly made by gods. Don't be ridiculous.
@@tastyloaf5487 Ride to Hell retribution is our generations boyhood.
Did you know road to hell retribution took 12 years to make
Rich is only there for the pizza.
Yes, you were wrong about boyhood, you hack frauds! How dare you not like a movie so well made, so full of substance and rich characters?! The Rotten Tomatoes rating obviously proves that it is in fact the best movie ever, together with Gravity, which is another film with a complex story and rich characters.
Citizen Kane and The Godfather pale in comparison to the masterpieces created by Linklater and Cuaron.
Yeah! Fuck Welles! Fuck Coppola! Those hack frauds should have filmed their movies over a 12-year period as well! Instead, they used makeup to make their actors look older! That is so unrealistic! Fucking frauds!
kidpax Because no movie has ever taken that long to make ever. It's not like Jurassic World out later this year hasn't been in the works for 12 years too. And it's not like the actual filming was only about 45 days altogether.

1:20 Jay's comic timing on the Boyhood praise is hilarious.
you guys are so special to me. not sure what i'm going to do when i run out of episodes

People actually worried about "ruining the integrity of the Ninja Turtles"?
The flawless and perfect masterpiece is the face in that construction worker. Not even Boyhood compares to that. What a beauty.
Boyhood couldn't be better, 99/100.
Re: The Foot Clan
Weren't they armed robots in the '87 series? I feel that making them a terrorist cell in 2014 is roughly analogous to making them a gang in the 1990 film. They're just updating the concept once again to make it seem more relevant. The '90 film is much more successful in that regard, of course, but the terrorist thing works in theory if not in practice.
Rich and his classic smug looks. I love it.
Never thought I'd hear Cannibal Corpse in a RLM video. This made my day :D
This is one of the better reviews from Half in the Bag in a while. It's a really nice change of pace to see Mike and Jay actually disagree with each other quite a bit because this invites more discussion as opposed to just echoing each other's sentiments about movies. It's more interesting to watch.
And I agree with Mike more than Jay here - TMNT was a stupid stupid movie, but it was enjoyable.
Eh, TMNT for me at least wasn't enjoyable at all besides the novelty of seeing how stupid the movie would be made by Michael Bay with friends
Total commitment to his craft Rich Evans
Love watching Rich go into low power mode
Always thought Rich Evans looked familiar, now I know where I have seen him before: He is the fifth ninja turtle!

"This movie's some dumb shit." - Jay Bauman
Rich Evans is my spirit animal.
I got excited when I saw a new RLM video in my subscription box, but then I realized I already watched it on their website 5ever ago.
The thing is I saw it 6ever ago.
They really milk their content as much as they can...which is undertandable.
I have the comics, they're weird, looney, when the artist changes it's pretty awesome too. Pretty violent too. Oddly enough I remember all the previous semi live action Turtles movies fondly. Not this one.
i am six years later. But the reason they are called the foot is because they are a parody of Daredevil and he fights the hand. In comics cannon the goop that blinds daredevil gets in the sewers and turns the rats and turtles into anthropomorphic things.
When my child graduates from high school I will take him to go eat spaghetti he will not know why but I will feel fulfilled afterwards
Rich Evans just sitting there is hilarious. I love this channel.
Obviously Into The Storm is ridiculous, but I will say, a real life incident that is somewhat in this vein happened near my hometown in IA in 1968. There were like over 30 tornadoes as part of a single storm system across multiple states and the town near us was decimated by a multiple vortex EF5 tornado. I think a lot of these types of movies are also influenced by the same events that Night of the Twisters is based on from Nebraska.
Statue-Rich is incredible
I respect Rich so much for just going for the pizza. I wouldn't have been able to stop myself.
I walked into this review on the same page as mike, though agree the plot wasnt very fleshed out. The film was fun and engaging. And im not a fan of super heros or marvel whatever. There was a certain synergy achieved between the CGI characters that was endearing
love how our Boyz and the editing make no effort to turn the harshness after Rich cleared his throat into a bit. They just left it as a good and pure "what was that, Rich? Please shut the f#ck up" Oh to be a Paul Finch.
