    I’ve been watching restoration / revival / rescue videos all over the CZcams’s for years now. This was one of the coolest videos yet. Helps that I’ve been driving by an abandoned 521 every day with a strong sense of desire. Lol.

    Sure brings back memories. I graduated high school in 1974. I drove one like that all through school. Same color. It had big and little slotted aluminum wheels. Hooker header with 2 inch exhaust. Offenhauser dual port intake. Judson ignition. Low back mustang bucket seats. A custom wood steering wheel. A tachometer on the column. It was a Dixco with a picture of Don Garlits. Also an 8 track under the dash and 6 speakers. I took just the stick from a Hurst shifter and ground it down to fit with an aluminum T handle and a custom boot. Should have kept that one.

    That was a good 38 minutes worth , your Datsun series is one of my favorites! 👍 Some vehicles can't be updated with LED's for the gen. light or it messes up the charging circuit.

    Brian, the cracks in dash also make a good pen holder! Probably many uses for them! That cluster came out fairly easy! Very good idea for paint “drop cloth” idea for the needles. Made it easy not to accidentally get paint on the rest of the cluster! There use to be a Testors model paint that matched the needles too. And cheap price! Easy to follow logic on which way bulbs install! Cluster looks fantastic! It was worth doing!

    Sharing my own experience with those type of LED wedge bulbs, you should do a burn-in test first. In my use, all of the bulbs started flickering due to self heating after just a few hours. Maybe I just got some bad ones, but I would not trust those COB style in my car again. I found that Philips 194 bulbs are the only trust worthy brand of LEDs that have yet to burn out prematurely even years after installing.

    • @ProjectTimeGarage
      @ProjectTimeGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      I had a similar experience with some other brands. The ones that SuperBright carries are a little pricey, but the quality is great. I have them in almost all my vehicles and I've yet to have one fail in about 4 years now.

    Hello again. I also had a Datsun 620 with a Buick V6 2 speed automatic transmission Jeep transfer case and axles. Is there a way I can send pictures? Presently I have a 79 620 king cab. I changed the grille to a 76. Slotted aluminum wheels header offenhauser intake and Weber carb. Fun story about my 521. I was parked at night making out with a girlfriend. My steering wheel had holes in the spokes. She got her finger stuck in one of the holes. My friends dad a mechanic filed the spoke and bent it open. He said that’s a shame this was a nice steering wheel. I also painted the needles in my 521 orange and the bulbs green.
