    Great playthrough, I love that you can tell immediately how much you enjoy it. I've always kinda been intimidated by his giant games like Caverna and Feast For Odin but this seems really easy to get a handle on, I definitely am gonna give it a shot.
    Also just wanted to say thanks for all the great content you put out last year. Awesome stuff as usual but I really enjoyed the videos from Shea and Ryan as well, and all the guest spots were so good! Hope to see plenty more of both in 2021. 2020 was really tough for me but your videos really helped distract from a lot of that. Thanks so much! (also really appreciate your choice in shirts)

    Really hoping to pick this up in April. Even more excited for it now I've watched your vids on it. "Best since Agricola!" High praise indeed! I am a huge Uwe fan, but was a bit lukewarm to this one initially. That turned around and now its seeming that this might just be a special one after all. Can't wait to play it! Also, my family played 'gric for over two years every weekend (and sometimes in between) it was a revelation for me! Rosenberg is still the king of designers in this house.

    even though im late to this video i wanted to thank you for the rundown/play-through and this video, your excitement made me excited too.
    I do have more Uwe games but those are light and easy to play and do in about half an hour like patchwork, spring meadow, my kids love them so much but i am just so hungry for amazing solo games that scale well. (did watch your top list solo games too)

    Really hope this goes down in price! Looks so cool, gameply wise, but so expensive (especially with the production not seemingly above and beyond). I like the resource tracking mechanism for instance, but that should help drive cost down!
    I get why you don't include value in reviews. For instance, I had thought you could weight your rating by price (eg $100 ÷ 8.741). That would rocket games like Tiny Towns waaaay ahead in 'value.' However, even if prices stayed static (as I say, hope this one doesn't), individuals may find deals, used games etc, but more importantly, it would be trying to make a subjective opinion objective. I suppose if someone said 'wow, my tastes are EXACTLY the same as Rahdo's,' they could always apply a 'value' weighting factor themselves...
    Anyway, another great video, thank you!

    Was interested to hear you suggest that getting to 10/11 workers may be sufficient in this game...just had a quick look through our scored games and the least either my wife or I have got from the community centre so far has been 46 points...with overall scores being in the 90 to 120 range. That would be a hell of a lot of points to make up with just the cards and scoring the "threes" for a few craft building moves??

    Some reviews of Hallertau have mentioned that the cards, especially the endgame bonus cards, add a huge factor of luck to this game. I recall this being a huge negative for you in Nusfjord. I am curious how the endgame luck in Hallertau will compare to Nusfjord for you after the opportunity for more plays, or if you already have thoughts on that comparison?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  Před 3 lety +1

      hallertau is a much bigger game where you get a lot more done and by the end have a lot of pivot options. nusfjord was smaller in scope, so you couldn't zig as well if cards demanded a zig. also, there were fewer, more impactful cards in nus, while hall gives you a lot more small impact cards, which gives it a different vibe as well.

    I keep sitting on the fence about this game [have yet to have a chance to play it]. I'm a big fan of agricola and glassroads. I prefer tight games, and ones where you always wish you had one more turn! I didn't feel as enamoured by caverna or feast for odin, for example. I'm guessing fields of arle is also not right for me. This one though seems to be middling - so will I like it? Is there enough channeling direction in the game in your opinion? very tempted to buy this but maybe the rosenberg ones I already have are enough for that uwe itch...?

      i'd still give the nod to agriola, but that's in part because i have a strong nostalgic connection to the game as it ws one of the firs games we played that pushed into boardgamegeek status!. and we also really enjoy the more harsh and unforgiving nature of agricola... hallertau is a bit more laid back. so that might be something to make your decision based on :)

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  Před rokem +1

      oh i would say yes for sure. about the reason i might say go for agricola instead (or green fields) would be that in this game, the farming is a bit abstracted. none of the cards have thematic explanations of why they convert X to Y, for example.

    And again Uwe coudn't made Automa AI to beat in Solo game. Just "good points", "extraordinary points", but no clear win/loss condition. That's sad, I like "get high score" solo, but I think, ideally there should be also variant with AI opponent to beat also. Of course, with adjustable difficulty modes.

    • @pfctsqr
      @pfctsqr Před 3 lety

      I used to feel this way, but so many solo automas have been hard to manage and ridiculously hard to beat, my opinion is starting to reverse on that. Matters get worse when the automa seems like it is playing a different game by a completely different set of rules.

Arnak is $60, Whistle Mountain $70, I could go on and on... those are all great games with lots of components, at much lower prices... when will someone finally factor in the cost of the games during reviews?! You're not the only reviewer who doesn't mention it by the way. And it's not the first expansive uwe game either, caverna and feast for odin were also very expansive. Uwe Rosenberg usually price his games higher, especially since this game just came out.I do not blame reviewers for not mentioning price because price is relative to each individual.
