Several of you inquired about the names of Sco's side men here, particularly the wonderful pianist. Here are the musician's names: Scofield - guitar, Bill Stewart - drums, Ben Street - bass, Michael Eckroth - piano
Thanks so much. I noticed this pianist playing with Scofield in a Ray Charles tribute concert at Berklee (the whole thing is on CZcams) and wondered who he was. He's not identified on those videos.
You definitely have good taste with music. Musicians of the calibre of Bill Evans and John Scofield are capable of elevating a gorgeous piece of music like this one to new heights. Don't miss Hampton Hawes and Eberhard Weber rendition, it is excellent, too.
@@huytonbaldy McLaughlin version is real masterpiece because special setup of strings he used to emulate Bill Evans' huge chords. Really incredible sound. This Scofield's version is fine and more " friendly" to listen
Super lovely. He's singing it through his guitar the way he would vocally sing it. You can really hear it. This version is killing me. It's almost a deep blues feeling to the meaning of the tune.
Totally agree. His album A Moment's Peace is extraordinary. The solo on "I Want to Talk About You" is one of the best jazz solos I've heard in 45 years of listening. What a musician.
one thing i love in the way he plays is that it shows you don't have to be a shredding-technical-guitar-master to play very interesting and moving music - some like Jim Hall
Do you shred? Because usually it's people who cant who make statements like that. They express their jealousy of those with technique by trying to make having technique seem like something abominable. There are plenty of players who use their awesome technical skills to make immensely musical statements with the added benefits of pyrotechnics to take it to another level. Al DiMeola used to talk about this a lot when he first came on the scene. Clearly, not much has changed.
Thegh he is my most favorite guitalist, I've never thought he can play such a beautiful style. I was so impressed to hear this. Thanks for sharing this!
this song was in a scene of "Arbitrage" (Spelling not sure") with Richard Gere; really set the mood but it was a pianist also it's from one of my favorite movies of the same name with Susan Hayward
wow! great version! Every guitarist will still reference johnny mclaughlin electrric guitarist version, but this was was very nice and in the spirit! Thanks for the upload! And can you seriously play guitar and NOT have listened to McLaughlin or Sco or Benson or Wes or..or...too many!
john...amazing..as always....what about all acoustic Scofield + Jarret + Patitucci + Moss (hiatus kaiyote) ? i would love to see that gig....probably will never happen...just an idea...etc. love & respect John

My Foolish Heart is my favourite jazz standard because of Bill Evans. And now, John Schofield's version is one my absolute favourites.

John McLaughlin also did a beautiful version

Try Jack Wilkins version of...my foolish heart...
Bill‘s version featuring Scotty and Paul (from the ‚waltz for debby‘ album) is one of the most beautiful ballads ever recorded ❤
So wonderful… heartbreaking 😌❤
Maravilhoso !
Insane perfection. He created a universe with his own sound
wow! he simply makes love to that guitar
Absolute masterpiece
Both guitar and piano choice of notes in the solos are outstanding
When every note means something. He can make his guitar cry...
Super lovely. He's singing it through his guitar the way he would vocally sing it. You can really hear it. This version is killing me. It's almost a deep blues feeling to the meaning of the tune.
Great comment. This version kills me also.
Scofield, is such a great artist
jeez this is so good! When sco plays on ballads, its really something else. i feel like he's literally saying something through his guitar
Right on. No else but Sco' can evoke Wes Montgomery and B.B. King and do it in his own unique way.
The lyrics ring through....

He is that’s why. He’s speaking alright.
The way he lets his guitar gently weep leaves me speechless ...
Stunning atmosphere, how intimate the musicians act, the guitar sings from deep within.
scofield is my favourite guitarist above all!!!!!!! THE MASTER
Piano solo was stunning !!!
scofield has an original and unique phrasing on the guitar. touch the heart
I love how he "bends" a note INTO a "bended " note. Never heard that technique before.
you means a slight bend followed by a quicker, in-tune bend?
Бальзам для души в поиске смысла бытия...🙂
браво)
My word, what wonderful playing!
yes, to good to be true🙏
so tender; take it to your heart...........

Pure piece of poetry...Che delicatezza...
Man he is DEEP inside those notes
3:45 'Nearness of You' quote You're welcome. :-)
Listen to Barney Kessel..."my foolish heart "
Lovely use of space John, and kudos to the pianist for a truly great solo.
Excellent John, great interpretation faithful to Bill Evans ,yet adds another depth to this classic song.

Hard to tell because he is a shredding-guitar-master.

At 03:41 The Nearness.... Genius!!
The secret lies in his faces!
simple, no need for fast notes. Sco gets to the core without artifacts on a stunningly beautiful tune.

i did not realise sco was this good ! my bad.
こんなに静かに弾けるなんて。
Who is the pianist? That was beautiful
After watching this, I now see where john mayer got alot of his phrasing inspiration from.
