- In West Virginia folklore, the Mothman is a humanoid creature reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area. On November 15, 1966 the Point Pleasant Register, published the first sighting as "Couples See Man-Sized Bird ... Creature ... Something". The national press soon picked up the reports and helped spread the story across the United States.

A fun lil tour of Point Pleasant! The Mothman Prophecies movie is great and this video is a nice introduction to the town as it exists today.

I went to the point pleasant moth man museum it’s amazing and since it’s march they put a green bow on him
I’ve been on and around the area where the Silver Bridge fell. While not haunted, it contains resonance of sadness, heaviness and unease.
Okay...I grew up in Pt. Pleasant....was there when the bridge fell (dad was with the phone company, worked there for a couple of days straight)...the bridge was old and an eyebar broke...
the mothman...was a couple of good ole boys with a tin pie pan and some road side reflectors were just having fun chasing the parkers out in the TNT area....my guess is the reason for the explanation of the moth man was a scared teenager trying to explain to dad why he and his girlfriend were half naked with the car in the ditch🤣

I forget how I found out about the Mothman. Probably a SyFy show. The movie & book were good too.
Two things this lady was wrong about. Mothman had nothing to do with the bridge collapse. The cause of the collapse was later based on a worn out I-Bar by bridge investigators. And the 2nd thing she was wrong about was the Mothman wouldn't hide in one of those underground bunkers because too many people go there & that would sure enough scare the Mothman into hiding if he/she even exist that is. Just saying.
