But patti and aretha started with exceptional voices with unusual talent/ear. Then they have transitioned thru extensive eras/genres of music with live performance. That's why they can't be touched on stage and a newbie cannot imitate them like a mariah or whitney. Tons of mariah and whitney clones on talent shows but zero Aretha and zero Patti Labelle clones.
@@nesq4104 I agree, but add that they were also products of time and place. I personally believe there is someone out there in every generation that could be a another “Aretha” or I’ll say, true original. They just wouldn’t thrive in the economic structure we seem to have now in music. Although I really hope that isn’t that the case long term.
@@TheIgnoramus what your saying is not impossible. The difference is the experience/training. Aretha at a young age was surrounded by greats such as Mahalia Jackson. Very few singers would have that kind of opportunity unless they have a notable family background providing access. But there are likely numerous people with that innate voice undeveloped or just not recognized.

She's just very erratic and her choice of words speak volumes about her character.
