@Daniel W, the difference in performance between the 9mm and .45acp is negligible and the added capacity and faster sight return are what make it superior.

I'm a 9mm fanboy myself & I wouldn't say 9mm is superior to 45acp. Even though it all boils down to shot placement I've heard many times that it takes less shots to take down a violent attacker with 45acp than 9mm.

I've had the Duty sized 9mm American for like 2-3 years and I've been extremely happy with it. Not a single misfire or issue whatsoever with it. They're great guns for every sized shooter or multiple shooters since they have the swappable grip sizes. The only downside is when you remove the trigger mechanism and put it back in the pin is sometimes difficult to get at the right position because it wants to be in a very specific position to properly pop everything back together, but as long as you aren't constantly disassembling your gun it's extremely reliable and requires very little oil and will practically never misfire unless you stuff the chamber full of mud or have absolute garbage ammo, in which case blame yourself for using cheap crappy ammo, but the gun ain't the problem

I had the sad chance to see what a 45 acp can do to a human head, it was something I don't want to discuss. However, I am partial to the 45 acp handguns and have two, a 1911 type and a Cobra Patriot 45. I have an Ohio Concealed Handgun License. I do leather work and made my own holsters. In the warm months, I carry my Cobra Patriot 45 in a holster designed to fit inside my pants and connected to my belt. I also wear an over sized shirt for better concealment. In the colder months I carry my 1911 in a shoulder holster concealed inside my leather coat. I'm not very fond of the Cobra Patriot as it's a striker fire type with a stiff trigger pull, although it's safe to carry a round in the chamber. That's another thing I like about the 1911. with a round chambered and the thumb safety lifted into the slide, it's also safe. If in a bad situation, I can drop the slide safety while withdrawing the handgun and it's ready to go. So far, I've never had to pull out either handgun, but you never know when you may have to. As they say, "It's better to have one and never need to use it, and to need one and not have it. In all honesty, I never want to shoot or kill anyone but if it comes down to me or them, I will have no other choice but to shoot them first.

@@TheFirearmGuy I used my 1911 in the live fire part of the course to get my CHL. I was scolded for only putting four holes in the target when we only each shot five rounds. After a close look, I told the instructor to take a close look at the target paper. 3 holes were circular and one was slightly oval, meaning I put two through the same spot. He laughed and said he should have looked closer at it when I took it off the cable.

It was 100% reliable for me with several different brands of ammo of different weights, although I only shot no more than 400 through it. I thought it was a very well made pistol, I could get pretty good accuracy out of it but I didn't like the ergonomics. It probably wasn't as bad as I thought but I had to change my grip position on it because it would bang your thumb knuckle. I tried all the grip backstraps but it didn't help. I do wish I had kept it though, I do believe they are a good quality pistols, I would trust it to carry from my experience.

Why does the new gray version come only in 7rd. The black is 10? 10 would comply with Commie States. Unless it's for CCW weight. 45 is a bit heavy on the belt. Watch the prices though on the 9. The new M&P 2.0 SC is low $400's too. i'm not sure I'd go with Ruger.

Mr. TFG, that 3 mag offer makes it nice as having compacts that are 7 or 8 rounds to add that extra mag makes that little added difference to bring you up to 21 rounds to carry potentially overall. Thanks!

I have the Ruger American Full-size 9mm and love it, great gun!

  • @unityistheonlysolution3485

I do like the cerakote gray color. Now the target 9mm Ruger American, that's looking really nice. Hey, nice shooting there @ 30 yards, FirearmGuy, not bad at all!

Bought a Ruger American 45 when they first came out. Good feeling gun in hand. But got rid of it because it wouldn't cycle underwood 230gr +p ammo. Pretty sure it needed heavier recoil spring but couldn't find one at the time. Great video and the grey looks good.

Yeah Ruger has it going on. However I don’t give a hoot what color it is. Still looking forward to the competition gun.

I agree, if Ruger keeps producing such awesome guns we will all be broke.

  • @JOPAGalvin

Agree Ruger American is an underrated pistol line and are a great value. Ruger has to know will be a slow seller if carrying fewer rounds than other popular 45 ACP compacts, Glock 30 or Springfield's XD compact. Being a larger compact carrying comparable number of rounds to subcompacts like Glock 36 or S&W MP Shield 45 ACP will hurt it . Realize magazine capacity doesn't make a great pistol. This is a CCW polymer pistol not a 1911 or a 220, magazine capacity will be factor in it's success or failure.

I absolutely love that gray color! Plus, in .45, makes it quite desirable.

Am I the only one that needs .45s to be 8+1 and 9mms to be at least 10+1? Otherwise this or xde would be nice

Unless they are really small 8 + 1 is perfect I use the + 1magazine in my colts officer's and defender witch gives me 8 + 1

I love that but I'm not rich I'm kinda green to firearms and I'm gonna get a Beretta 92x in 9. I don't think I could afford 45 rounds but I'm gonna get one in gary. That's gorgeous gun.

I really like the look of this gun. I got a ruger security 9 awhile back. Think it's a great little shooter but I found the trigger to be a bit on the spongy side. Did you feel that way about this trigger? Just wondering if it's me, rugers trigger for that gun, or rugers triggers in general. As always, thanks for the great videos Dan.

Ruger just continues to pop off some nice looking pistols. I like that gray cerakote, looks really nice. I would like to get a hold of that 57 model, even just to try it out. Be safe out there brother, and have a great weekend.
