- The replacement 'stunt guitarist' for Steve Via in 1988. Imagine the size shoe Keneally had to fill?
From Wikipedia: Keneally had called Zappa and said that he was "extremely familiar with all of his material and that he would be ready to play any of it for him given a short amount of preparation time", as he had already "been listening to Zappa's music for 16 years". "On the phone the day before the audition Frank had told me to have 'What's New in Baltimore?' and 'Sinister Footwear' ready for the next day's audition". On the way to the audition Keneally practiced the aforementioned songs, as well as "Little House I Used to Live in", and "every single Zappa melody I could think of, kind of as an exercise for my memory" as his brother Marty was driving the car.[1]

BACKGROUND (by way of) EXPLAINATION
I have been obsessively listening to Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention since the summer of 1979. Nonstop Zappa consumerism with some MOI thrown in. These videos seek to provide context to Frank Zappa’s entire body of work.
AUDIO
A few have suggested that I re-double my efforts and invest a little time in Audacity training for consistency in my audio editing. Thank you for the suggestions. This recording was normalized to -1db and compressed to -20db.

Go, Mike!!! Mike is a kind, warm, generous human being. I highly recommend him!
I hope to post more musicians from his various bands
When somebody can pull off an impromptu rendition of "Inca Roads" alone with just an acoustic guitar and absolutely kill it, you know that ain't no ordinary human being.
exactly
When I saw The Zappa Band last year I was struck by Keneally’s ability to shred. The whole band was outstanding
Mt gf had the same experience. She was blown away by the band and Keneally in particular.
Keneally has an incredible body of work produced under his own name. He is much more than just an accomplished guitarist. He's a great pianist, composer, and songwriter.
I am only acquainted with his work with FZ.
@@POODLEBITES He's been producing his own albums for 31 years. His latest album is being released this week. Check out his website.
@@POODLEBITESCheck out his album “Hat”.
The Zappa Band was amazing to see live last year. They sounded amazing! I first saw Kineally with Beer for Dolphins opening for Steve Vai; mid 90’s. They traded solos, was AMAZING.
Thanks for watching.
I'll be seeing Mike next week at the Baked Potato club. I'm very fortunate to live in LA . I get to see him locally several times each year in his various progjects
good show?
He blew the roof off. Enjoyed every note. Got to hang with him and share some stories about going to concerts in the 70s. I look forward to seeing him with Progject in November
Great musician and really nice person too.
I hear that a lot about Mike.
Thank you for this.
My pleasure!
He's so cool and humble a hidden Gem 💎 forsure
👍
His album Wooden Smoke is stellar. He has an emotional depth to his work seldom seen the shredder world.
😀
Fact: I was with Mike when he bought the hat he is wearing on the cover of Wooden Smoke.
Great vid, man. I've been a Keneally fan since seeing him in Zappa's Universe. Never looked back after I bought his first album. One of my favourite guitarists and songwriters for sure!
Excellent channel too.
You might like some of the music I make on my channel.
Cheers from Australia 🍻
Glad you enjoyed!
FZ fan for a while but never knew Mike. Yet The Best Band (what a line up!!!) is one of my fav FZ albums.
...and now you know a little more. Thanks for watching.
Welcome back to TheAaronChannel
Thank you, Phil.
Well done👍
Thank you 👍
Bravo
Thank you
😎
😀
Mike has made some brilliant albums, only marred by his dreadful vocals!
Love his participation in keeping the FZ's music alive.
His vocals grew on me slowly.
@@mindtorquemusic Like an unwanted fungal infection?
@@periurban Mike is actually a very talented vocalist who can sing some very difficult stuff.
@@reidwhitton6248 I have listened to almost everything Mike has done, and I hear no evidence of that. Maybe you could point me to something?
