  • Every year - in random locations in the North and South Island of New Zealand a group of mates meet to explore the area in pre-1958 Series 1 Land-Rovers.
For 2024 the meeting point was Rangiwahia - a small area in the northern part of the Manawatū and 24 Pre-1958 Series 1 Land-Rover answered the call.

What fantastic properties to traverse. Here in the north east of Victoria we have some stunning countryside, but it’d be a rare case if we were to be able to travel around properties the way you guys seem to be able to do. I’m sure it takes a bit to organise, so hats off to the people who work behind the scenes to get you there. Also, an impressive amount of Series 1’s still capably running around there, just awesome 👍

Hi - thanks for the comment. Yes - these trips are arranged around 12 months in advanced. Leon is the main contact and looks for local volunteers to co-ordinate local access. A great source of access is via local Vintage Car clubs, as many members are also Farmers who are happy to let old farts driving old bangers to tour around their property.

Well done, takapari has been "closed" to vehicles for a while, think the local 4wd club are trying to sort getting that hole fixed.

There are plusses and minuses to track maintenance. If the road is too good - it gets hammered - if it is in poor condition the road can end up being widened by determined Off-Roaders. Vigilance and respect for the access is the best solution. Thanks for the comment.

My Land Rover makes yours look like a Tesla is so bloody loud compared to yours. You can hear the CB radio was so loud inside, I have to stick my head out the window to hear the radio when doing anything more than about 10 miles an hour

My gearbox is making a lot of sounds it shouldn't, so suspect an overhaul is not too far away. Owning my Series 1 for 30 years - and also a Series 3 I learned early on that a good drink of Moreys oil stabiliser in the Transfer box makes a huge difference to the wear and noise. Thanks for the comment.

Why anyone without any off road experience would go up there is beyond me.

Are you talking about Takapari Road? It would depend on the time of year. The reports received at the time, was that it was an easy access - but this proved to be not the case. Thanks for the comment.
