Practice grabbing someone with portal. Then try doing it while having shock shield up. You'll notice they fall towards the center. You can use this trick to sink players when there's water on the map. Portal helps in a lot of other situations though, from closing games to freeing up minions, and those situations are limited only by your own creativity. I would recommend watching players like 'Seerkomp'. I haven't played rated HTS games since May, but there are many top level players who are using this exact book/concept you can learn from.
