Serbia has the most diverse music scene in the world. Influenced by Western sounds, Arabic sounds, Greek sounds, Slavic minor cords,... it's absolutely amazing what we can here over there.
And I must say, when it comes to food, it's the same story.
The Balkans is the crossroad of civilizations, no wonder...
This performance was CRAZY. Absolutely obsessed with this song and her performance. Such a shame that Serbia had such a good national selection because I honestly loved their top 3 songs... Great reaction guys. Love how you both reacted in shock when she hit that high note at the end. 😂

The concept of the song is about how a girl (Sara) got a guy she wanted and everyone is talking that she is a witch and she cursed him etc. In the performance she used a lot of symbolism (body postures and shapes, to background symbols and also the immitation of seraphim which is the highest level angel in Christianity (the poses she did with the dancers)). She wanted the whole concept of the performance to be Vlach magic (type of black magic) which is characteristic for the eastern parts of Serbia. Also that weird instrumental is a characteristic sound of south Serbia.

The song is about society/ patriarchy demonizing confident and sexually liberated women (though Sara Jo is in no way overtly sexual, controversial or rude in real life, she is quite well behaved and classy). Serbia being a conservative country that it is, a lot of people criticized her for having extravagant fashion taste and being different when she was younger and starting out on the music scene.
She creates a countryside/ village setting with her song and she herself plays the “village witch”. She’s not actually evil, but others have already assigned her that role, so she embraces it and leans heavily into “black magic” because she sees witchcraft as kind of empowering for women, not having to rely on a man, but relying on herself.
“Muškarčina” literally translates to “big man” and is used to describe someone who is very masculine and macho. However, the way she uses it in the song is derogatory, as if she is taunting this guy and making fun of him by calling him a “big man” sarcastically.
It’s a pop song, but it’s definitely well-crafted, layered and artistic. Don’t let the costume fool you. I like Konstrakta but I have to feel a bit bad for Sara Jo. She grew up in Italy and lived there until she was 16 (before moving back to Serbia) and she loves Italy so much and really wanted to go.

While watching this video, I was only captivated by her performance, not the song. However, I just listened to the studio version and I can take so much more from that musically than from the live version, I'm actually impressed

Out of all of three songs that were in top 3 I would prefer Zorja, it's just my taste - I love this kind of traditional ethnic dramatic songs, but at the same time I really DO appreciate Sara Jo's original and totally unexpected song, it doesn't sound like any other song so it would definitely catch your eye (and also the performance was on fire) 🤩

As one who does see konstrakta's song as special, I have to concede that I love this. It perfectly balances satisfying, and subverting your expectations. I actually found it catchy, and the beat sounds really familiar, but then not. Fantastic!
Turns out that Serbia had at least 3 songs this year that were better than the UK entry.
Yeah, the three that we've reacted to from Serbia are definitely out of this world songs, what a preselection!

So happy you guys reacted to this! Not only is this my winner of the Serbian selection, it’s my favourite song of the whole ESC 2022 season and it didn’t even make it to Eurovision. This would have been such a serve in Turin and it still disappoints me that won’t see it on the Eurovision stage. This could have won Eurovision 2022 and I say that very confidently. I’m not even exaggerating when I say I listen to this about 5x a day
Also, from a musical point of view, I love that this is in 9/8. It sounds so unique to listen to and it’s actually kinda fun to sing along to such a rarely used time signature (in the mainstream media that is)

Sara was once on ESC with Moje tri group.We liked Sara a lot,but we vote for Konstrakta because it is something we never had on ESC and on our competition.This year we had really good songs after really long time.

The song has a lot of layers and a lot of secret messages. It sounds like she's singing about being in love with a woman and she is her "man" and she doesn't want to keep it a secret anymore but the lyrics also sound like it has a deeper feminist meaning talking about how women were shamed and treated during history for being sexual before marriage with who they wanted to so the song tells a story of her having a secret relationship with someone so she isn't judged by other people, the lyrics are quite good actually.

Actually, Sara herself said that the song has many layers including a hidden meaning. Word muskarcina is a feminine form even though it is used for a man. So basically, her being different, having her muskarcina that no one knows about and deciding to let the world knows whom she is in love with could mean that she is in love with another woman.

If this song was a bit slower and than had gradual build up with climax it would be more affective. Unfortunately song started strong but it led to nowhere. It was at same pace all the time while you are waiting something to happen but it doesn't. It looks undone more done in hurry. Intro about Cody was unnecessary. If it gone through it would need serious rewamp.
