The Scariest Day In Football History
The Scariest Day In Football History
The Scariest Day In Football History - Hry
What Kjær did to help Eriksen that day practically saved his life; he will always be a legend in my eyes
He got gifted a UEFA President's award too for what he did, incredible
agreed, kjær was the goat that day.
unfortunately i was a bystander to an accident once in the past when i was a wee boy and i went to bits.
i carried that lesson into adult life, i know to be strong and dependable now.
i know to be like ppl like simon kjær
Very scary moment for shre
DID save his life.
And also the emotional support he gave to Eriksens partner. Great guy
We are lucky to still have him.
Eriksen is a fighter, I remember the fear among everyone, and seeing him get better was so relieving.
Was an unbelievable feeling when we knew he was alive
Eriksen never gives up. We knew that when he played for Spurs with his all time and time again
@@Vizeh exactly, I was so happy.
Having one of the best players die on the pitch and, as you said perfectly in the video, having it televised way too much, would've been even more tragic. Fortunately they managed to pull him back to life
It was scary to watch at the time. Given what happened to Marc Vivien Foe and Fabrice Muamba previously. One battled through and tragically the other didn’t.
Remember watching the squad standing around Eriksen, shielding him from any onlookers. Had tears in my eyes, but I'll never forget how terrifying of a sight it was
Easy to forget how bad it was honestly
I tuned in when he collapsed
I remember crying at this scene on bbc1 when he was on the ground, now he plays for man united and he is playing at the best. So much love for u christian erikson
Eriksen gladly recovered and is back at top level at united. What a story.
That's the most under-rated thing, if he came back to football even had a lower level that'll be incredible, but to play at the highest level possible still is insane
@@VizehIts insane how he went from dead, recovering, going to top level premier league football right away and then moving to united after a heart attack is absolute top dog level of courageous advancements in his career.
As a united fan, I'm so happy we gave him a chance to return to the highest level again.. and he has equally paid us back by being one of the vital cogs in our midfield whilst building attacks.. he is so effortless and composed and makes the game look easy.. on top of being such a good player, he is far above as a person.. so humble and calm.. it still haunts me when thinking that we easily could've lost one of the biggest stars in world football on that horrible day..
In fairness he was at the highest level with Premier League football at Brentford but I understand what you mean, he's a great person!
@@Vizeh bit biased but i agree he was doing pretty good at brentford, and that brentford kinda gave him the chance first...
Props to the Finns for supporting the Danes during the situation on the pitch and being supportive and helpful during the accident
Despite scoring their first goal in Major Tournament in their history, was very respectful too!
What I hated the most about this incident was how they kept filming while they tried to resuscitate him. They should've cut the feed and given us updates about him instead of showing us how distraught everyone was including his girlfriend who was crying
Went into that, absolutely it was UEFA that continue the footage but really still would've thought they could've cut to the studio.
@@Vizeh I do agree that the filming was awful, but it is also really hard to put presenters on the spot after seeing something like that, because what do they talk about? They probably should have cut to a different programme or something.
I'm danish. The best moment was the 10th minute against Belgium. I remember crying. Ball kicked out of play. Every single person in the stadium standing up and clapping.
And also in the Finland game afterwards. Danish fans shouting "Christian" and the Finnish responding "Eriksen"
It was the other way around. The Finnish fans shouted "Christian" and the Danish responded "Eriksen"
@@SneakersDK uhhhh you’re hard. bro det ændrer ikke på noget🙄
@@ilooodesigns8617 Jo det synes jeg det er. For det var de finske fans der fik Danskerne igang. Så jo jeg synes at det var relevant.
I was watching the game with my mum and missed the initial incident. After rewinding I realised what had happened. Me and my mom were both on the verge of tears and were screaming at the tv for him to be okay. When we found out he was okay we just hugged each other and said we loved one another. Seeing him play for my team, United, brings a smile to my face and a tear in my eye. This was an awful day for football in the modern day.
Was an awful experience my friend
@@Vizeh absolutely, hopefully something like it never happens again
The only time I ever felt bad for supporting England was that semi final, that Danish team deserved so much
Fabrice muamba incident for Bolton was absolutely horrible too.
Also cant forget the Finnish they paid respect to ericksen and showed support
It was the first game I watched live with friends and I just remember how silent the public viewing got. I don't think I've ever been that terrified watching anything. And what a return by Eriksen, it is an actual miracle of a return.
I still remember that very day, I was trying to piece together what was going on thinking it was something like an ACL tear at the worst. Eventually I found out that Eriksen’s situation was dire and went into more detail posting about the situation within the crowd as opposed to the pitch. Once the halftime whistle blew, I concluded that the match would be suspended and went for a jog to get my mind off the situation. Once I got out of the shower, I was equally shocked as I was perplexed to find out that match resumed while I was cutoff from social media. My biggest takeaway was the abysmal state of the result for both Denmark and Finland, since it was a historical win for the latter that will forever be marred by what nearly became a tragedy. In the end, we almost got the perfect ending since nobody had a predicted that Denmark would’ve been a goal shy of the Euro Cup Final, especially when they entered the final match of the group stage against Russia.
How the Denmark team bounced back in the way they did was extraordinary
I still remember how my heart dropped and I felt so weird the whole day
Was a very scary 50 minutes where we had no idea what was going on
@@Vizeh and he’s still an amazing player too that’s the crazy thing
I was at the pub that day soon it happened everyone went silent so glad he’s ok and a great player still
It is still insane to see how he has come back
As a danish man myself im so happy he’s back playing football. We where so close to get to the final. It was some special tournament❤
Englishman here. Even if I think we overall played better then you that game, and probably deserved to win, I wish it wasn’t like that.
It truly is one of those moments where you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing. I was working at my local pub and the game was on tv, looked up as I was taking a break to clean an empty glass and saw him stumble and fall. Watching a person essentially die in front of you with the world also watching is horrifying, it was awful to watch but I’m so so glad he made a full recovery.
As a Finnish fan I remember watching the game live with a big friend group at my place and the whole situation was just horrible. We really respect our scandinavian brothers so it was terrifying.
I was watching eating chicken tenders and then I saw Eriksen just randomly drop to the floor and I didnt think much of it. I wondered why it was taking so long to handle the situation until I saw them giving him compressions and his teammates turning around holding their heads and then my mouth dropped. I dropped the chicken tenders and I literally got sick watching it happen. My chest was burning for the next few months after that. I never really recovered from that
Mistake at 6:31 that’s Brian Laudrup, not Michael.
From a heart attack to a world class player playing at the highest of levels
Eriksen is underrated
and love the vids vizeh keep it going
Happy to have you here, thank you for your comment!
Vizeh: My daily dose of football info nowadays
Thank you again Vizeh
Thank you mate, proud to have you here
Along with the video, i absolutely love the intros as well. It just sets the foundation for the video perfectly.
Keep it up bro 🙌
I have a newfound respect for not only Eriksen, but the whole Denmark 🇩🇰 national team. What a way to show respect to your fallen brother. What a bunch of lads
I think everyone had a soft spot for them now
i was watching that game live. One of those moments you will never forget. I'm so increbibly happy he made a full recovery and is back playing
I remember that day. I haven’t seen the first half as I was at the groceries. When I returned I met my neighbor outside who looked shocked and he told me: someone collapsed on the pitch. I ran in and turned on the TV. Was just minutes after the incident… What a horrible day and what a cruelty by UEFA to demand everyone to go back to the pitch.. Show must go on…
I still remember this day... Was joining my friend and his girlfriend at the time (who was finnish) to watch it at theirs, Was her 1st time watching a football match... I remember walking home at half time thinking i had just watched a man die on TV.
This day was full of emotion, the way they chanted his name from both sides
I think this is one of those moments in life where you will never forget exactly where you were watching the game when it happened, or exactly when and where you heard about what was going on.
I remember the match was on tv in the main living room in my home, I'd just finished eating dinner while watching smth on the tv in the other living room, I saw Eriksen receiving treatment and the Danish players forming a ring around him, asked my dad what was going on and he told me he'd collapsed while running to receive the ball. That was genuinely terrifying to see happen, I did go out for a walk, not to distract myself from it, but bc I was bored of staying at home, although I came running back earlier than I expected bc it started raining. I'd later find out it was cardiac arrest and was hugely relieved to hear that he was alive and recovering in a hospital.
i remember watching it. just seeing him (what we thought was) trip. made us chuckle. untill we saw he wasn't getting back up. i still feel bad for having that chuckle. i still get goosebump whenever i see a video or throwback about it.
the amout of respect i got for the medical staff. medical personell in general there i can't describe. i think we all got alot of respect for the danish team in general after this. so glad he's still around to talk about it. that this isn't a ''what could've happend if'' video.
I know it was a long time ago now but I had flashbacks to when Muamba collapsed at White Hart Lane. He never played again and unfortunately Bolton got relegated. Now he’s a legend at the club.
I still remember that day, I was eating late lunch and was watching some football besides it, I was looking at the screen at that moment since Denmark was pushing more and more when it suddenly happened. I was thinking it’s something with the knees or somewhere else in the legs (or he was just slipping) but as I saw he wasn’t moving I knew there is something going on. And I was taken by the courage of the players and even the support of the fans. This was one of the moments that show us how vulnerable we all are and thar football is more than just a sport
I will never forget those 40 minutes where no-one knew whether Eriksen was still on this Earth with us. With everyone in the stadium chanting Eriksen’s name
This is smth you never want to see happen, especially in a football match being watched live in the stadium by thousands and on tv around the world by millions. Can't believe its already been 2yrs since this happened.
The match shouldn’t have carried on and should’ve been a draw for both teams as well as halting the tournament until an update was there for Eriksen. I’m glad he’s still playing and I wish the best for him going forward!
I remember being on my way to a wedding that day. I was curious how the gaming was going. Tuned in to an empty pitch wondering what happened. Remember frantically checking for news. Sucked how Denmark went out but overall impressive performance on and off the pitch by the players
I had a cardiac arrest last year and when i got out of hospital one of the first TikToks i saw was Eriksen's cardiac arrest. It genuinely made me tear up and made me think how lucky I really am to still be here.
❤
Incredibly strong player, still stunned to how we went from praying for him to survive to a few months later praying this wouldnt happen again as many people wanted him to retire for that reason. And now, he's playing as if nothing ever happened, playing at the highest level...
I will never forget that image. Eriksen collapsed from cardiac arrest and if not for Kjaer and Denmark quick thinking, Eriksen wouldn't even be alive and still playing today. I take my hat off of respect and appreciation for Denmark not only saving the life of their own but to have the courage to finish the game. There are far more important things in life than football.
I remember seeing Christian collapsing when watching the game on tv it was so scary
Love the videos, man. Keep it up!!!
As a Wolves fan it gave me flashbacks to Raul Jimenez' injury, so glad he's ok
I remember my family visiting some friends in Atlanta and we were eating at Tacomac when we got the news (this was also before I got into football) I still felt devastated about the event but thank goodness he’s okay now
I remember how sad people were here in Denmark, it was bad. Most of my mates who watched football were pretty different for a couple of days, and people generally didnt really talk about football for a while.
So happy he is back
Sad reality is this happens to plenty players not just top 1s but right the way down to the Sunday league pray for those we lost and be grateful for those we saved
BBC straight up lied about the amount of control UEFA had. Almost every other country cut to in studio talk or birds eye views of the stadium. They knew exactly what they were doing and aimed for spectacle over humanity and sensibility. A trait the BBC has been displaying at a worryingly increasing rate over the past twenty years.
At least he was revived but unfortunately players like Miklos Feher, Antonio Puerta, Matsuda, Jarque and Tiote didn't make it after there incedents
One positive light is that over time, health and safety measures are taken much more seriously and people are better equiped for these situations
You forgot Marc Vivien Foe, whose death happened in an important football games, when Cameroon faced Colombia in 2003 Confederations Cup semifinal.
France and Cameroon won all hearts when both captains handed the trophy after the host won the final.
There is lesser players like Matt Gadsby and Richard Butcher (although in Butch's case, he had a mild heart attack, went home after a full check-up, then had a massive cardiac arrest at home). So many players are having serious cardiac problems.
I remember this vividly, I was recording some kind of music video before and tuned into the game to find Eriksen already laying there. I probably went through all 5 stages of grief at the time:
This can't be happening. Oh God tell me it's just a nightmare. He's got to be ok, there is no other way.
I'm very very happy he made a full recovery and I cheered on Denmark through their entire campaign cause they weren't just playing for themselves now. They were playing for *him*
As a finn i have huge respect for Eriksen and Danish team for continuing the game!
I remember as it happened I started crying thinking of the worst. It was horrific to witness that.
I vividly remember that day. I was sitting on the chair in the living room and from our family i was the first one to realize what had happened and i was dead in my soul because he was my favorite player at Inter and when i heard the news that he was okay i screamed at the top of my lung and burst into tears of happiness
the backdrop of this happening so early in the first major international football tournament after covid was wild
It was heart-breaking watching this in real time especially as a Tottenham fan who watched Eriksen give us so many great moments
This still haunts me. Everytime I see a player trip face first to the ground I think ”not again”.
The fact that Eriksen is not only alive but still playing Football is crazy.
I’ve seen some horrible stuff on Reddit but this had me in tears watching live I did not expect this and was so shocked and upset
Impossible to swallow your own tongue, but the captain showed true leadership skills.
I remember crying watching this.....one of the scariest moments
I remember seeing this live and its still as scary now as it was then
i was outside listening to the game while playing basketball outside (ik, ik, random) but i instantly dropped my basketball when i heard he collapsed and ran to my phone. i just sat and watched in horror. it bewilders me that i’ve seen 2 cardiac arrests (Damar Hamlin) in my life in only a couple of years… utterly insane.
I am finnish and i was watching that game. I remember being happy because their best player got injured but i didnt know what was actually happening
Had my birthday on that day, as a finn it was an great birthday present to watch my homecountry debut in a major international tournament. Then just something like this happens. Me and my family where just in shock and empty. Had tears in me eyes, but when i heard the finnish and danish fans chanting Eriksen's name, it was just something so beautiful.
I watched that game and I was hoping that he was still alive and he was thankfully but I didn't expect him to come back and be a top player after that. What a dude
There were quite a few times when I go back to watch the highlights of one game in particular in Euro 2020 for Denmark, the one against Russia. Not only did Denmark beat them, they ripped the Russians apart, and had England not played them in the semi final, they would be worthy finalists given what has happened and everyone they were fighting for. A case of, "If not England, I'd happily take Denmark."
I remember having dinner and coming back to see the game and saw that a different program was on, and I was confused as to why there wasn't football on and that was when I checked my phone and saw about Eriksen. I went to youtube to see what exactly happened and I saw him collapse and I just sat there in shock. I couldn't believe what had just happened I couldn't even sleep that night. When I heard he was safe I felt some sort of relief knowing that he was ok. I will always remember this Denmark team and I feel they deserved to go all the way. Its a shame they were stopped by England, though with a lot of controversy, They still were an incredible side.
I've never cried at football, especially to a former Tottenham player,
But this,
This made me cry
So happy to see he's bounced back even better than we could imagine
@@Vizeh he's an unbelievable player, even more so now, being able to get back so quickly. Absolutely Legend.
We need more Christain Eriksens in this world. Quick and beautiful recoveries, over to see him back!!!
BBC should’ve cut the cameras soon as it happened
Honestly Pretty Excited When Vizeh Uploads
That makes my day man, thank you!
I was in shock for 30 minutes and cried. It is the single scariest event I have witnessed with my two eyes. I actually have ptsd from that. The stations should have been sued.
I'm from Finland. I remember how we watched the game at my friend's birthday party. Everyone was having such a good time, the day was historical after all. Our first major tournament started that day!
However, when we saw Eriksen on the ground shaking and being revived, damn. The whole party went quiet. Few people, me including, sobbed a little. The excitement about Finland being in the Euros vanished in a blink of an eye. We just wanted Christian to be okay. Later we luckily got the good news, and we even won a match and got to experience some of that sweet, but utterly useless hope to qualify further in the tournament. What a rollercoaster of emotions that day was.
Ps. Later that year my friend who's birthday we were celebrating traveled to Copenhagen with a couple of her friends. She met some Danish dudes there at the bar and as a banter told them that Eriksen ruined her birthday. Everyone laughed because you know, he was okay after all :)
As a Dane Watching the match, it was one of the most surreal things I have ever seen in football. The whole city of Copenhagen was completely silent for hours, it was a unreal experience specially because we all though Eriksen was gone, He is not only one of the best Danish football player ever, For many Danes he is a Idol and A living Icon.
i and my whole family and few more family were watching this match. While He collapsed, someone were cried
I remember turning on the channel to watch the game around that minute just to see it wasn’t broadcasted and wondered why it wasn’t on tv, just to hear that Eriksen had collapsed, truly one of the scariest moments ever
I remembered how Kristien Eriksen fell victim with cardiac arrest on the pitch in the disastrous opening game of the delayed 2020 European Championship First Round in the Scandinavian derby between Denmark and Finland at Parken, Copenhagen on Saturday the 12th June 2021, because it saddened me and he didn’t die from the tragic cardiac arrest on the pitch when the Finns upset the Danes 2 - 0, but Kristian Eriksen went to the intensive care long the Danes reached the Semi Finals on the 7th July 2021. 🇩🇰 0 - 2 🇫🇮
A week ago a teammate collapsed during a amateur five a side tournament. Unfortunately he was not as lucky.
Idk man, calling it the scariest day in football history is doing a disservice to Heysel, Hillsborough etc.
I remember watching this on tv it was quite worrying
I watched it live couldn’t believe my eyes, that and grosjean going through the barrier in flames the two moments in sport i flapped
I remember the whole thing about Eriksen when I was heading home from my beach vacation and it's very sad. I didn't watch the game and never saw the whole collapse and my mother told me about it and it's shocking. I really imagine if you have this whole thing in the iceberg video but probably in the next one I imagined but it's very very scary to know how this happened and now Eriksen is still going strong and being at his best.
Wish you the best mate!😊
I remember being at the stadium when Denmark played the Netherlands, and when he scored the 4-2 or something and the entire stadium was cheering for his goal
When I saw that I was heartbroken for Eriksan
I literally watched this unfold live and almost cried 😢😢
Thank you for not showing the footage of him on the floor, I watched it live and I’m still traumatised by the sight of him lying unconscious with his eyes wide open, in that empty dead stare, I was sure I had just watched someone die on live TV when I saw that. I’m not an expert but my educated guess is that he had a freak arrhythmia. As a United fan I’m so thankful that he came back and is doing great for us, I’m looking forward to him keeping up the good work next season ❤
My mum was saved when on holiday in Denmark in the same hospital as him, Danish doctors the real superheroes, never would’ve saved her in in England with our NHS strike squad.
Those image's still hit me.
RIP Miklos Feher. That was heartbreaking. Glad Eriksen is okay.
I remember checking the game on google coming home from soccer camp and it said postponed I thought it was weather or smthg like that but when I looked into it I was shocked
man. i was sitting in my room waiting for if he was okay. sat down just praying for the entire danish national team the game being 1 hour after is fucking criminal aswell. love the man even if he plays for man united.
If I am being completely honest, going from being dead for a few minutes and recovering, then going back to playing football is already impressive, but going back to the top flight is nothing short of amazing. It was great work by the Danish players, officials and medical team, especially Kjær who cleared his airway which was vital in reviving Eriksen. If only Marc-Vivien Foé had that same response.
Corrections: That guy in 6:35 was Michael Laudrup's brother, Brian.
I still remember how I confused and shocked I was, literally didn’t say anything for those minutes, just stared at the screen. This video really make miss the Euro and those odd football times
I was watching this live and doing my first watch party with my friend who’d just switched on the tv and we saw him collapse immediately, we all thought he was dead and it was honestly horrifying
Health comes above everything
Furthermore, there are players that weren’t as lucky as Eriksen, in the sense that he survived. David Longhurst of York City is one such player.
Still remember watching it. Was terrifying tbh.
He sadly never recovered, not from the heart attack but from being a United player
One of the 2 times I cried In that tournament the second one was the final
*I was listening to this match on the BBC iPlayer and this genuinely brought back memories of what happened to Fabrice Muamba back in 2012. I’m glad Eriksen is back to playing again (I remember literally doing the sign of the cross after hearing that he was going to be okay) but what the hell were the BBC thinking showing everything that was going on rather than cutting back to the studio straight away. Also the match should have been rescheduled for a different day (Like they did with the Bolton-Tottenham match after Muamba collapsed) rather than continuing just 90 minutes after what happened.*
They couldn't reschedule it, but the game should have just ended 0-0. That's the issue with tournaments, they have little wiggle room, so anything going array means major problems.
I remember this scaringly well. We were at a friend's hous eto watch Denmark's first game (we ar danish) and was so annoyed up until the collapse.
I remember I was looking at my phone when he fell. The others loudly expressed that something was wrong with Eriksen.
When I looked I saw my idol laying lifeless with the camera slowly zooming out. He layed with his eyes open everything. Completely unresponsive. The stariest thing I've ever seen in a football game. The game never were the same after. Felt so lifeless. Noone gave a shit when Finland scored.
