- Green Hill Paradise Act 2 is a fan game that aims to answer the question (as its creators put it) "Can a Sonic the Hedgehog game be made such that it supplies a rich and robust experience in a fully 3D environment while staying true to its platforming roots?" and it is beautiful! JustAnUser the fans have an excuse as its the most recognizable level and its meant to show how Sonic can work in 3D. By using green hill for the base you can show off how a level from 2D Sonic translated into 3d works.

Easily the most perfect run I've seen for far.
The perfect Electric Shield skips in order to snag Emeralds early,
That perfectly-executed leap from Lookout Point into the halfpipe,
Swerving on the wall-run in order to keep your speed up,
Leaping off of the White Emerald Run early in order to reach Central Isle right after,
And the best part of all: you knew when to break the game and when to keep things cinematic and have a quieter moment... It was like I was looking at the level through new eyes.
What else could I expect from the illustrious DarkspinesSonic?

I wish I had a better pc so I could play your game better, it only works at an accaptble frame rate when i'm in minimum quality and even then the games still lags alot at times.

The level's design is simply incredible. The run is amazing. But the scene at 4:38, in which you are about to drown, music pressing you to make a quick move out of despair, finding the teleporter and suddenly a calm music invades your ears... loved how it develops, bringing you to a secret with (to me) a huge retro feeling like if it was the first time you ever gathered the seven emeralds.
This level is just a masterpiece. Everything fits into such a memorable experience. I enjoyed this a lot even if it was just seeing someone else playing it.
for a demo, this has massive potential. the only thing that I would say, is that, based on the way how the stage looks, it shouldn't represent a stage where you can run to an end like this. Instead it should be a destination hub, similar to how the castle was in Mario 64, but the location would be riddled with secrets, like emeralds, where you can then branch off to a stage that's in a linear format that sonic games are accustomed to. Also have multiple hubs where sonic can run to, thats littered with enemies and secrets that can be hundreds of miles away. Not only that, but make each stage that we are to run to multi-directional, so that it opens the possibility for being rewarded with different endings for beating it in a certain manner.
Impressive for a 1 man team, nonetheless.

Yeah, I guess that's one thing they might be able to do. Personally, though I find this impressive, it just seems to lack a clear sense of direction. If I were to play it I might be wrong. But that's my small piece of criticism.

I'd argue that it's worse. It's too open, there is very little risk of dying, there's no time limit so you have all the time in the world to find the goal ring. Sure it might be fun to explore that world but there's no challenge. Also what's with the loops? You can just run past them. A game needs to be 2D, linear or at least have some linear pathways for them to be relevant v.v I prefer Sonic platformers. If Sega came out with this, Sonic fans would hit the fan. 06 is better, honestly.

Well, as someone's said already on this video, that's fine if it's a simulator or test level. It looks fun to a certain degree but the people who are watching this probably have no idea what would be the right move for Sega to make and they just bash on them for whatever they bring out because it doesn't cater to their every whim. Sega Sonic games ain't very good lately but neither is this.
Are you kidding? It's built like a Spyro level (semi-open) while still keeping in mind the "Sonic formula" with proper sonic paths and courses, in which the player character can maintain insane speeds if they are good/careful enough, has a bunch of secret goodies, and it looks good to boot. THIS is a god damn awesome level, and proof of concept for a good god damn 3D sonic game.

I remember everybody being in love with this game and then completely forgetting about it as soon as sonic utopia came out. It's kind of a shame that this game has been overlooked, because while it hasn't exactly aged the best, it was really good for its time.

To people debating that sonic will "never return to roots": take a good look at the reason why; because of the fans are in a total disagreement, sega themselves at one point didn't know what to do and threw darts basically everywhere, yet missed the target. Fanagames like this are now clearing a path for the franchise as we speak, just look at Sonic Mania! the game wouldn't exist if it weren't for After the Sequel.

As one man said, SEGA hired Christian Whitehead and Stealth because they made THEIR own engine, while all fan games like this (This, Sonic World, Sonic Utopia) are NOT on engine of their creators.

Guys we have to remember this was made by only a few people! So stop having wars about how good this game is compared to other Sonic games. If an official team were to polish the design, physics, graphics, and all that jazz, this would be better than everything after generations, and certainly on par with mania.
I'm really not a Sonic fan, but this is soooooo dope. It's more of a puzzle game, but it's based on speed. It's incredibly unique. And it somehow manages to make just plain old having fun be a lot of the reward for doing well!
There is so much to explore and the fact that it's fan made makes it even better

Sonic Kirby Personally,the best Sonic fan game i played in a long time was "Sonic World" (V.7.0). I wouldn't say SEGA should take note or whatever cause it still lack a bit of polishing but the game feel almost as if i found a lost Sonic game prototype release between "Sonic Heroes" and "Shadow the Hedgehog" era LOL !

What I love about this is that it captures Sonic's speed, without messing up the controls. It doesn't look janky, and difficult, to manipulate Sonic; but rather quite easy. No battling with the controls.
The way he easily turns from left to right whilst going at full speed looks smooth, effortless, and fun.
I also quite like the openness of the design, the isolation, and the music. You feel the importance of collecting all emeralds, and opening the path to accessing the power of Hyper Sonic. It's mysterious, and kinda magical, when you acquire it.

You know why sega hired Christian Whitehead but not them? It's because Christian Whitehead made his engine from scratch. They however did not. Sonic GDK uses Unreal engine, Sonic World uses Blitz3D engine, and Sonic Utopia uses Unity Engine. Also the polish Sonic 06 project uses the Unity Engine too.

"Rich and robust Blaze experience in a full 3D environment." I'd say yes, this game succeeds at being rich. As for robust; well, you know that wall you have to blast through in order to discover another part of the area? Why can't you do something else to break the wall? Why can't you simply spin-dash; or achieve a fast enough speed to break through the wall. Or better yet; why can't there be a pathway that allows you to completely ignore the obstacle and get to the other part of the paradise? This game is not exactly the most robust thing ever; but I will tell you that this game is fast. I however; hope that the Mach State is not as fast as one can go in Green Hill Paradise - Act 2. As thrilling as it is; you could be going much, much faster. He did prove that there is a chance that it could be done; but the robust thing has to be worked on.

Arash Amini sorry i think i was unintentionally referring to the concept of following the footsteps of the classic games. I'm quite certain that this game is only open world because the creator wanted to give the players a medium to mess with the mechanics of the demo. You can tell because of the many randomly placed ramps and loops. I imagine the chaos emeralds were added to put some senses of accomplishment into the demo

100% man. Honestly for me there's no competition between them. Crush 40's is good, but this Sonic Boom is so much heavier and truer to the original. You are free to like whichever one you like, but theonlydeeralive's version for me takes the cake

The demo creators beautifully captured the zeitgeist of the series as it should be presented. No wisps. No werehogs. No over-reliance on "boost mechanics" and faithful references to the best parts of the originals. Well done. Hope they get the same kind of love Taxman got.

This is an amazing fangame with a very pretty environment, but I don't understand the whole "take notes Sega" thing. This is merely a recreation of Green hill, which has been done 100 times, only this time bigger, better, and more beautiful. Sega has to create their own ideas, which is why some of the newer games seem a little meh (mostly Sonic Boom). Plus, this seems amazing because it is a fangame. If Sega released this, I'm sure fans would really enjoy it, but wont have the same reaction.

This looks cool as a proof of concept... I mean... applying all these gameplay aspects to more focused linear levels would be amazing. As it stands, it looks intimidating as hell. I wouldn't have a clue of where to go.
