Nice to have found you! I often fish soft hackles jin my set of three flies, usually as the bottom fly. They are far more effective than people give them credit for. Several of my most successful patterns have been soft hackle or have been an extension of soft hackles! Thanks for posting, I have seen. Your books around, so I have ordered one. Nice simple pattern, easy to tie! Thanks! I find it easier to wax the thread, add the dubbing and then hang a dubbing spinner(DS) and fold the thread from the DS up to the hook ( forming a dubbing loop ), attach the thread to the shank as you do and spin my DS to form my dubbing rope to make the body! The result will be the same! You don’t need to poke dubbing into the loop this way!

The method I use is especially good for larger flies where you can create the appearance of a lot of dubbing without actually using that much as you would have to do if you direct dub it. I just apply this method to all my dubbing loops and I can spin the dubbing loop tighter or looser to create difference effects with the dubbing loop. Basically, I am using the dubbing that sticks out of the loop as much as I am what's inside the loop.
