You are my hero. Showing the underside of latch was key. No other tutorials i found were useful. Took a while to find the right piece of metal so u could get leverage. But I was able to open hood without destroying the latch. Thank you thank you thank you

Appreciate the footage of the bottom of the latch. I was able to feel the catch, and release the hood without removing anything.

Thank you for all your comments. I need to do my hatch back latch also. I think I will include a bottle of Burbon in my next video LOL

Thank you so much for this video, the view of the bottom of he latch was the most helpful for me but this was the only video that really helped me open the hood.

Thank you so much!❤ let me add to what's already a great video. The hole in the middle behind the emblem you don't need to cut it. You can pull the hood up a little and disconnect the sensor by pushing a small clip and the latch cable.
Thanks again I was going to be very ashamed of myself if i wasn't able to open it

Just letting the viewers know. Mines the FSI 1.6 mk5 golf and the cable runs from the opposite side then this video and it connects differently into the bonnet latch from underneath. Bit more of a job to connect it in maybe easy with two people, one holding the cable catch down while the other hooks the cable in. Hope this helps people in the future

My 07 gttdi didn’t need the grille drilled for the left bolt, there’s a hole in prep. £11 in Uk from eBay for new latch.

Cheers for showing the spacing on the mechanism and the radiator top-down, had seen some other videos that only showed from the front which isn't much help!

Any advice on what angle the catch is from the hole?

I've been removing the front badge and carefully using grips and a Allen key to manually turn the locking switch. Being careful with the radiator behind. But MOT is coming up so I need to change it. Thank for vid

Thanks very much for showing the sensor cable clip. Just could not get that to release until seeing that it is a horseshoe shape.

If you still have a latch that's functional, but sticking due to old age, is it possible to just clean and lubricate the existing mechanism rather than spending that much on a new one?

Yes. Definitely go with the lube. Hope it adds enough life to your part so you never need to replace it

For anyone going to pull their emblem off - keep watching. You can easily access all of the screws just by removing the front badge grill. Remove the two screws on either side, pull the two tabs and the whole thing lifts right off.

Hi! I have one question, my hood won’t close, the lock won’t close on it. Do you think there is anything i could do to it? Thanks
