Twisted Ribbon Technique - Facebook Live

  • This is a replay of a Facebook Live I did on Feb. 28, 2022, the last day of the Stampin' Up! Sale-A-Bration promotion. If you are watching the same day, you can still take advantage of the promotion. With every $50 you spend, you will be able to choose a free item from the Sale-A-Bration brochure! Visit my online store to shop or for more information.
If you are watching later than Feb. 28, 2022, please enjoy how to make a Twisted Ribbon element on your card. Post your version as a comment on my Facebook post on this. We love to see some different colors, patterns, designs, etc!
Here are the basic measurements you need for this element:
    Card Base: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"
    First Layer: 5-1/4" x 4"
    White Cardstock: 2" x 5-1/4"
Designer Series Paper (DSP): 4 strips each of two different patterns 3/4" x 3-1/4"
With a pencil, lightly mark the 2" x 5-1/4" piece of white cardstock every 3/4" along the 5-1/4" side. Do the same on the other side. you will then adhere the Designer Series Paper along this according to the instructions on the video.
The white card stock that you lay your DSP strips on can be wider if you like. Just then cut your DSP strips a little longer.
Have fun doing these on your own!

Thank you for demonstrating how to make a Twisted Ribbon Card. I have never seen one before and I think they are beautiful. This is my first time watching you and I do appreciate you taking the time to demonstrate the technique. I wish you had a transcript so we could follow the steps easier.
I hope you don't mind my critique but I heard you mention you use to be an elementary teacher and I honestly felt you were all over the place and weren't really prepared as well as you should have been, especially for a live demo. You repeated a lot of things over and over as if an adult was not capable of understanding you the first time.
Please keep in mind, I am hoping to help you, and the fact this is a video, if someone doesn't understand or missed something, they can go back a few minutes or seconds and rewatch what they missed rather than you repeating the same step 3-4 times. It would have made the video so much more enjoyable.
I am hoping the critique will help you in the future.

    • @stampwithlorraine5074
      @stampwithlorraine5074  Před 2 lety +2

Hi Linda! Thank you for your tips on how to make my presentation better. In a general sense, I might agree with you. But I just want to point out that this FB Live event was intended for people to craft along with me live in a casual setting. I supplied a list of supplies ahead of time so that we could all do the project together. I usually do this privately with my VIP group, record the meeting, then edit the video to add written measurements, and to keep it shorter and more concise. Because people were crafting along, I went slowly, repeating some steps so that everyone could keep up. I know from teaching that there are many different types of learners and I need to be aware of everyone's abilities and pace. Sometimes I need to repeat or re-phrase something for people to understand. (This can be a bit frustrating for those that catch on more quickly.) There is also a delay in between what I do and when I see the comments on the screen, so if anyone had any questions as we went along, I wanted to leave a little time for me to see them and answer. When working live, there is no option for rewinding to see something over again. I didn't want anyone to get lost. I know also that some people get a little confused with direction sometimes, (not instruction, but orientation) and with the criss-cross design, it could be particularly tricky for them. I know my audience and didn't want anyone to get frustrated if they couldn't keep up or get it correct. It is also tricky (as an instructor) to demonstrate or teach something to an audience where there is no or little feedback, and what you do get is just short, written comments that you have to watch as you are trying to do your demonstration. It is not my favorite way to do things, but the spontaneity of "live" adds a bit of excitement too. It can feel a bit more personal. I did this particular event live since it was the end of Stampin' Up!'s Sale-A-Bration promotion. I wanted to do a last showcase of the products. Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy some of my other videos.

There are two kinds - "sleeves," which are open on two sides, and "pockets," which are open just on the top. Although the sleeves provide easy access to the paper, things do fall out easily too. I prefer the pockets.

Hi Darlene. This was a Facebook Live from the end of February. I usually announce on my FB page (facebook.com/stamplorraine) when I plan to do a Live... it doesn't happen often. Stay posted!

your entire video is reversed ?? when you turned the camera down it was okay

Yes, I know that when I do FB live and the camera is up, it is reversed, but not the entire video. So when the camera is down on my worktable, it is the correct direction. That's what is most important, right? I haven't been able to figure out how to change the settings on my phone for switching it on FB. Oh well!🙄

    Hello

Measurements would be helpful to people who wish to make such a card, without having to join your club. Just saying.

I do put the measurements on the screen. I don't always make a printable version because it does take a lot of time, especially for something I'm doing for free anyway. Sometimes I post them on my blog, which is free and does not require joining a club. I do not have a club where I give the instructions to these videos. If you are referring to my newsletter, that is information about my classes, Stampin' Up! specials and additional tips and project ideas that are not related to my CZcams videos. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the videos otherwise.

P.s. this wad a FB love replay that I didn't edit to add additional info. People were crafting along with me so I took extra time repeating the information for the steps as we went along. Most other videos are edited and have measurements on the screen. I hope you find that helpful.🙂

Sorry - this was a Facebook Live, not an edited video tutorial. Also, people were crafting along with me, so I had to fill in time while they worked on their end. Quite different than an edited piece. On my regular recorded tutorials, I make an effort to keep them more brief and concise. I hope you can enjoy them more. I'm glad you like this card!
