This is the best way to dehydrate shroomers but the only thing I do on top of that is put another sheet of screen over the back of the fan (no need to hold it in place, the fan will hold it with the air suction). It's just an extra layered protection from dust.

WillyM you are correct and debating this would be more noise pollution. Room temp, as fast as possible, sealed and stored in desiccant chambers. Years ago, the method developed was a room dehumidifier that sucked a half gallon from the air in 4 hours placed in a sealed closet sized dry room. Dried, sealed , and stored in a desiccant chamber all done as fast as possible at room temperature. Back in the dark ages before info was available on the internet, living in a subtropical climate, this method took a while to figure out and was only way to garuntee an indefinite shelf life.
I strongly urge anyone debating necessity of proper drying methods to take high humidity climates into consideration and give proper drying and storage methods a go.

I would also recommend a bottom layer of silica beads if you experience any issues getting that bone dry end result.
As for loading! .... Well ..... Obviously you don't want to waste space on your racks, but you also don't want to pack them in so tightly that they are over lapping, touching one another and crammed in. Especially if towards the outside of the center, near the edges as airflow will be weaker here so being too densely packed you are going to have a hard time allowing the fan to fully circulate that air around, leading to extended drying times or fruits that just never seem to get that perfect snap, as they do when bone dry. I've had it a few times where something hasn't quite dried right and either goes kinda 'chewy' or you leave it longer and it starts to wilt and look ready to mould up!
That's the 2nd reason you shouldn't pack it too much!...over touching fruits etc... They are much much more easier to start to rot against each other as its just moisture on moisture. This will also slow down the drying regardless of where they are placed if pecked near enough on top of each other, touching.
I make sure nothing is touching and lay them out from the middle - outwards.
I kinda make like a spiral with the biggest fruits so they are all nicely positioned with breathing space and by doing the 'kinda' spiral it positions all the biggest ones right above the centre of the fan, then use the smaller ones to, and fill in the rest.
Last tip would be to speed up the process, pop off the caps from stem and make sure starting from your biggest first then work your way down the stack with the smallest ones being able to be left whole, towards the bottom of the rack.
Sometimes things pop up and are ready before you would like and you have a couple 80-90qt low profile totes that all need drying at once! That's a HELL OF A LOT of 'fungi-to-dry'. As someone who uses a good 50/60% of my yield for edibles, 3x 1g capsule packs and the bulk used for microdosing capsules in multiple strengths so harvesting day and big orders can be stressful as I love being able to offer customers the freshest product around, be that dried, powdered capsules or actually multiple ounces of fresh, just picked. I like everything to be picked fresh , dried, processed, packaged and shipped within 48hrs of an order, and if wanting fresh I won't pick and pack till gone 4pm, having all packaging and labels etc sorted. Means I have an hour to pick and weigh before the postal service closes. So picked at 4pm, with them between 9-11am. Like to think that's the best way if you want them fresh.

You're better off using silica in a closed desiccating chamber as it will simply absorb ambient humidity if you use it in the open. The best way I've found was to dry them on window screens in front of a fan for 1-2 days, similarly to what's being shown here, and then transfering your fruits to a desiccating chamber (mine is simply a tote bin to which I've added about 2 inches of silica gel at the bottom, lined it with paper towels to avoid silica gel getting into my fruits even though I put them in paper bags for easy labeling). They usually get bone-dry within 24h if your silica was dry to begin with. If they don't get bone-dry within 24h, put your silica gel in the oven @ 250F for 2 hours and then try again.
This is also a great solution for long-term storage, my last batch of Amazonian is about 2 years old and still very active since I've kept it in these conditions.

I use a room dehumidifier , funneling the exhaust (dry air) through racks similar to what Willy has.
The dehumidifier I have, blows out 17-20%RH at only 85 F degrees and drys a lot of mushrooms in less than 24 hours. 85 degrees for 24 hours won’t effect potency .
At the end of 24 hours I either put them in jars with an oxygen absorber and dissicant pack. They will stay potent for a year this way.
Or grind to fill capsules. They powder up really well right off the drying rack.

Honestly the debate could be settled really quickly with a potency test. you dry half a flush with a dehydrator and the other half you air dry. and then test a couple specimen from each and see which has the higher or same potency. with a chemical test of course.

So turns out the fans they make this size have rounded corners and so there’s a little space at the corner.... my smaller snacks flew right out of the corner hole randomly a couple hours into drying (guess they were light enough to fly right out after losing moisture)
This design is very flawed although very innovative and creative!
One way to avoid this problem would be to have an empty tray at the top just to have something blocking the entire surface including corners on the top layer so that nothing can fly out of the top rack corner.
This would probably also be avoided if only big/ heavy fruits were put in the top rack so that they couldn’t be blown around.
I’d say for anyone just growing enough food for your family dinner or a light snack, probably just stick to the cheapest dehydrator on amazon unless you’re really handy with a drill and have all the tools necessary at the ready.
Really inventive though, and probably a better option when it comes to commercial scales!
