      Thank you Donna ! Yes the translucency of the tea bags lend themselves very well to layering. They can reveal ayers below or enhance certain elements :)

    Its difficult for me to attend your online classes. But I am very much interested to learn the process. I will be grateful if you let me know- how can I get the "Encausticology Collage" instructions classes video? Is there any source to get/buy the total classes video? Thanks

    Once again, thanks for sharing. Glue burn is one of my all time favorites for adding color and texture. What are you using on your hands to keep the wax from sticking? I hate gloves, but also hate spending unreal amounts of time trying to get the sticky stuff off!

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  Před 7 lety +1

      LOL Susan , I use a barrier cream when I am not using gloves but it still wears off and I wash my hands about 50 times during filming . I have a habit of diving in all paints etc with my fingers :)

  • @momapes

    Thanks Shari! I do have a question. Are you smoothing off the warm wax with a rubber blade like a Catalyst blade to keep the layers thin? I have a hard time keeping the wax thin enough for layers. I'm aslo taking your class at the end of this month. I'm so happy to be able to get my stuff out of storage since we moved and get going on my very limited knowledge of encaustics. They are so much fun!

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Mo ! Yes I am using a Catalyst wedge #6 . I also like the #3 blade when doing collage. Woo Hoo ! Get those supplies out and have fun ! Are you coming to Dayton ? Or are you taking one of the online workshops ?

    • @momapes
      @momapes Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks for the answer. An online class- Encaustics 101 I think. I don't live anywhere near you so this is the best I can do.I live in Idaho.

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Mo, Yes, Idaho is a bit far , but the internet makes the world smaller and is great for creating isn't it ? If you like encaustic collage and layering techniques "Encausticology Collage" is probably the one you want. There is over 10 hours of instruction and project videos + a private Facebook group for sharing + you have it forever :)

    • @momapes

    Could you tell me the brand of heating tool you use, is there also an embossing tool? Enjoying your work, first time!

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  Před 5 lety

      Hi Jan ! I believe in the beginning I am using a little creme brûlée torch but once I begin to add the paper I am using a heat gun available at any hardware store. My favorite inexpensive brands are Wagner available at Home Depot and Lowes etc and Drill Master from Harbor Freight. R and F Paints also carries a wonderful heat gun that costs a bit more .

    @terafujan720 Před 3 lety

    Wood glue - does it have to be something that specifically says 'wood glue' or can you use elmers or aleenes glue? Once you burn it does it absorb the wax or resist it? Thanks!!!

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  Před 3 lety

      Hi Tera! Yes I have found that it is wood glue that produces this look. I haven't found any glue yet to be absorbent but wood glue will adhere to the wax .

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  Před 7 lety +2

      Hi Judith , used wood glue and did a wood glue burn. It creates beautiful carmel colors !

  • @TheJudy1230
    @TheJudy1230 Před 5 lety

    I am lost. it would be nice if you told us wha tyou were adding, . you showed gthe black whatever so fast..and what were you putting on over the tea bags, some kind of plastic? then you covred that up with some other plastic. sorry. i got lost. turned it off. doesn't help me if i hav eno idea what product your using...so you put all that on, then covere dit with white wax? i am guessing. because you dont' say or write anythign.

    I wish you had kept the actual sound and not opted for a pop song. Realize that if someone doesn't like the song you choose, they may not watch the video. I watched it on mute, but I would have rather heard the torch and the materials on the wood. This is a tactile process and by denying us the audio, you're only giving us part of the experience. Just something to consider.
