Turns out there was another OTJ pack opened and another new mechanic was found. I'll make another video on 'Spree' :)
Casting armageddon is a different kind of crime
Why not i say, lands are overrated anyway
It is funny now that in Magic this is a true sentence: "Murder is a crime, but Wrath of God is not."
I am glad to see more "archetype groups" being added. They should add a more deciduous for the old "Krakens, Leviathans, Octopuses, and Serpents" grouping. Plus others.
I always like when there's overlap between archetypes. There are a few cards that benefit both assassins and rogues for instance.
Personally not a fan. You have to remember unless there is always reminder text what is in that group. Outlwas might aswell have included Berserkers, barbarians and many more.
@@SiegfriedDrachentoeter That's fair, I don't personally mind having to remember or even look up every once in a while. Since it's the first time we have it as a keyword too, it'll probably have reminder text in most examples of the card. Usually the keyword is only by itself on special instances of the card (like alt art and the like) which I honestly prefer, or if it shows up again in a different set.
Keywords are weird like that. I prefer them because they leave more room for other text, but keeping track can be a pain I imagine. I'm the type of weirdo who doesn't mind having a big stack of papers or a screen open so I can look any up that I forget, but I think I'm definitely an outlier.
@SiegfriedDrachentoeter remembering things truly is a Magic player's weakness.
@@PhoenicopterusR It's the only game I know where having a copy of the rules/rulings/and proper errataed text for the cards is considered cheating.
@@rougheredge6705 I only have a problem with remembering things like that where its like a list. And lets not be like Magic isnt already really bloated. Party and stuff like it just kill me everytime I read it.
I wonder if plot will be used for any storm strategies. Like cantrips and rituals will still be better, but maybe there will be a plot card pushed enough to sneak in. Spending mana on a setup turn to cast it for free on the storm turn seems like it might have a niche
Don’t forget to warn them about the Pinkertonz
They got a 5 star rating. They must know 😂
At least it'll be a flavourful shakedown this time
So what ? No cavity search ?
I love all of the funny flavor fails for committing a crime people point out. My favorite is that casting Wedding Ring is a crime. How dare you get married?
Forced marrige?
Wotc solves gay marriage: all marriage is illegal
they missed the opportunity to bring back horsemanship
There's a possibility that we'll see a Horsemanship card in one of the bonus sheets. Don't forget, with this set they merged the Epilogue set they were planning to launch into the main set as a bonus sheet.
Plot feels somewhere between foretell and suspend.
Ok in my humble opinion, "outlaws" being a catch all term for specific creature types is a huge no no. Like I can understand rouges and assassins but warlocks? that's one I'll be forgetting constantly.
Would it be better if it only included 4 creature type? Like Party?
@@attackoncardboard I guess but I think the issue is more that it feels arbitrary. Party was acceptable since most people are familiar with the concept of the titular fantasy party but the outlaws don't have that same base connection. What connects a warlock and a rouge more than a cleric and rouge or assassin and noble, it's not intuitive that those specific creature types are part of this group.
Thinking about it I guess we already have historic as well and I dont mind that so I suppose its mostly just a "grrr I have to memorise something new" thing but I dont think these kinds of "collection types" are a strict benifit for the game.
Makes sense to me. Warlocks are usually evil wizards so, they'd commit crimes
I was wondering why I would ever want to plot a card rather than playing it now. Cards that care about casting from exile is like the only good reason I've heard.
My Faldorn deck might be eating good with this set.
Why are so many of these mechanics at Sorcery speed? That certainly downgrades the power of this set
It encourages players to attack and to not block.
Thanks! First I'm hearing of this.
It's technically not official news yet, this has all come out due to a leak 😬
you missed one i will put it lower for incase of people not wanting spoilers
there's one more new mechanic called "Spree"
basically how that works is a reworked "Escalate" the different this time is each mode can have a different cost but just like Escalate you can pay for as many of the additional modes as you want.
Source? *EDIT* Found it. I'll make another video for this one :)
Does Plot being cast only as a sorcery have sorcery related synergy or is that the new template for you may cast this only any time you may cast a sorcery?
Plotting doesn't change what type the card is. So if you plotted an instant with "Fblthp, Lost on the Range", it wouldn't trigger the "Whenever you cast a Sorcery" on Spellweaver Volute. It's simply changing when you could cast the spell. Which in this case, Sorcery means "You can cast this spell during your main phase, when you have priority, and the stack is clear".
@@attackoncardboardI assume a permanent allowing you to cast sorceries at flash speed wouldn't change when you can cast the plotted creature also then.
I don't think cards like Leyline of Anticipation gets around this restriction, because the plot mechanic is explicitly putting a sorcery speed restriction on it. There are no other cards with the phrase "Cast it as a Sorcery", so I don't have anything to compare to at this point. Might have to wait for the release notes on this one.
With the new Jace Reawakened -1 ability, can i plot my Locthwain Scorn (adventure) and play it as Virtue of Persistence the next turn?
I heard that it should work in the reverse way: Plotting an adventure (>manacost 3) and play it as the more expensive 'main card' the next turn.
I really hate that wotc is reskinning old mechanics to be flavorful in the new set, it just adds unnecessary confusion although I do like that they’re bringing back old mechanics because there are a lot of excellent underutilized mechanics
What do you think about the upgrade to Morph, Disguise?
MaRo mentioned that in play testing, players would never morph a creature because it was too weak to play a 2/2 for 3 mana, so they had to power up Morph.
I see Saddle as a better Enlist. But for Plot, I need to see more cards to judge it.
@@attackoncardboard In that case surely the payoffs for using those abilities (eg turning a card face-up with morph) should me made higher instead of making new rules that will only be printed once and just confuse anyone not playing standard
HERE COME THE PINKERTONS!
Saddle. LOL! And to think people made fun of Megamorph. I knew the cards were getting really bad I didn't expect such a high cringe factor.
What were you expecting from a Cowboy set? How is that cringe?
It sounds like a ProZD skit ability
You forgot the spree mechanic
They are dumbing it down to sorcery only. Probably happens when you lay off all your employees and keep crapping out cashgrab. But a nice throwback to Portal.
Can’t wait to hear the babies whine about my crimes when I play land destruction and hand disruption in EDH
Sets are designed years in advance. Layoffs happened last year?
*yawn, just more recycled and convoluted bullsh!t. They're really suffering from creativity fatigue.
I don't usually like to give WotC the benefit of the doubt, but it has been multiple decades, recycled mechanics are bound to happen one way or another.
@@PhoenicopterusR "Everything is Kicker"
Lame. These are just reworded existing keywords. They should have brought back Challenge for this set.
