There's an interview with Shavo about this. When SOAD first preformed this, it was when they opened for Black Sabbath in Birmingham before Toxicity was a thing. Bill Ward came to their dressing room and told them to preform it. They all said that they wouldn't do it unless the rest of Black Sabbath did it with them. And Ozzy sang it with them and it gave everyone chills

The great thing about Sabbath and SOAD is that neither of them sounded like anyone that came before them. They have their own unique style. That style difference is very clear in this song. Both are great.

I dont understand why people allways spent time discussing If original or cover version is better. Soad made this cover as part of a tribute album to Black Sabbath. You all should respect both bands, as well as they respect each other.
I've been listening to Black Sabbath's discography to its depth because I only knew some of theirs best songs and I felt I was missing on some good stuff. When I heared Snowblind I got that feeling that I already knew it, but not that version. I FKN LOVED it anyway.
I tought for a long time that this song was original from System, that shows how they were able to cover it keeping the soul of the song, while giving their own style to it.
Enjoy the brillance of this musicians work and keep it to yourself. If you didn't like it just go list to another thing. Don't waste the time that you could use maybe finding your next favorite band or song disrespecting the genious work this musicians.

    Feeling happy in my vein

    (cocaine)
    Something blowing in my head
Winter's ice, it soon was dead
Death would freeze my very soul
Makes me happy, makes me cold
    (cocaine)
My eyes are blind, but I can see
The snowflakes glisten on the tree
The sun no longer sets me free
I feel there's no place freezing me
Don't you think I know what I'm doing
Don't tell me that it's doing me wrong
    You're the one who's really a loser
This is where I feel I belong
    Crystal world with winter flowers
Turn my days to frozen hours
    Lying snowblind in the sun
Will my ice age ever come?

As a massive fan of Sabbath, I really like this cover, its probably one of my fav sabbath covers (along with Pantera's planet caravan) it seemed to me that they respect the song, they adapted it to their style in a pretty obvious way but they've still captured(at least in my opinion) the feeling of the song

If this song is about cocaine addiction, stylistically, this is better. It fits the rushing fast paced and jittery feeling of the high of cocaine much better, and the aggression during the "don't you think I know what I'm doing" part. Sabbath is great, and kudos to writing the song, but slow and held out does doesn't fit the subject matter as well as this.

tyler kling i prefer this over the original but the black sabbath version has a kind of druggy 70s vibe to it yknow?

valid point. The original fits the sound of the time I will admit.

tyler kling That's not what cocaine is really like, especially if you're addicted to it. The original song captures the feeling much better.

    • @cjpurple96
      @cjpurple96 Před 6 lety +6

+tyler kling Maybe its that this version captures the initial thrill of coke the "I feel invincible and happy, I can do anything" and the original captures the feeling after the "honeymoon phase" where you're doing it because you're tired to get work done which gets you more tired then you do more coke
