Very thoughtful and thorough comparison. Thank you!
This is the exact video I was looking for. Thank you for such an amazing and informative video.
Brilliant Matteo.....I was trying to decide which of these two portable devices to buy and you have given me my answer. Excellent review. Thanks again. Helen from Australia
Thank you very much for your comment. Glad my video could clear your mind. :)
I love Matteo’s accent and for some strange reason it instills coffee expertise in my brain.
This comparison answered more questions for me than others. I like the measurements. Thankyou for a well thought out review
Funnily enough I’ve been looking for a mobile coffee press to replace my jetboil French press. I’d nailed it down to these two. And found this video… perfect. Outin nano is the winner. Cheers, fantastic review.
Excellent review, you've touched every important point when deciding between the two devices. Thanks!
The Perfect detailed comparison i have ever seen and helpful review thanks dude you are really professional
If Wacaco would make an electric body so we could just replace the pump and reuse all the accessories that would be awesome. Then we could choose on what to take depending on the situation.
I got the nano thinking it's almost similar to pico and that the premium is due to it being even smaller, but it appears there's more. I'd appreciate a video highlighting how nano and pico are different, and the positives and negatives about both
Can't wait for a non plastic nor aluminum (in contact with the liquid) versions. Good info!.
congratulations on the content! I bought an outin and also liked the quality of the coffee. But I found it a lot of work to clean between extractions, especially if I'm going to use it outdoors.
Thanks so much. Yes there some work to do in the cleaning, but that is with any other portable espresso machine that uses ground coffee. With the capsules it's way easier.
I had the picopresso, heat management was a mess.
Outin is a really good invention
I liked the taste review.
Yo estoy buscando una que mantenga la temperatura consistente y que me de buen sabor del café.
Excelente explicación, gracias!
Really helpful Matteo, would be keen to know your thoughts on the Piccopress vrs Outin. Keep up the great coffee videos! 👍
I’m guessing that over time the piccopresso would probably brew the best espresso, once you’ve dialed it in etc… Outin, provides the ease and consistency of coffee on the go + with the benefit of pods…
The problem of a comparison against Picopresso is that the baskets and capacity are so different between them. Here I wanted to compare it with the Nanopresso because they work more or less in the same way. The Picopresso basket recall the actual espresso machine basket and the way we prep the coffee in it.
Hi and congratulations. Top quality experiment and analysis. Thanks very much
Very nice, Matteo. Congrats. I had one nano that I used twice a day, for 2 years, until it broke hahaha a good device.
Hi Matteo, thank you for the nice and useful review. How long it takes for the Outin to heat the water? I know it depends on the initial water temperature, but just an average to know the required time to prepare a coffee… thanks!
I think I show it on the full Outin review video. And yes it depends on the in the initial water temperature.
Very informative, a big like.
Does it come with a USB or USBC? Would I be able to charge it in the car?
Thanks Matteo
It come with a USB type C. I'm sure with the right adaptor you can charge it in the car.
A me per adesso funziona benissimo.
Love the Outin!
Thank you .
Just ordered outin nano but I am going to buy both wacaco just for backup purposes
If I'm backpacking the Wacaco wins as I have to carry a stove for my meals and tea. If I'm car camping and the weight don't mater, do I need another coffee maker? I can always take one of the mokapots that I have, they make good coffee and are light.
Ciao,
If the USB cable is connected to a good charger, will the Outin continue to make coffee without waiting for the battery to be charged enough? So basically will it rum when powered?
They suggest to don't use it while charging. I need to get more info about that.
If your outin is flat. Can you run it off usbc ie make an instant coffee or would you have to charge it first ?
They suggest to not use it while is charging. I also doubled check with them a few weeks ago. They also told me they are trying to find a solution.
Influence of the Brewing Temperature on the Taste of Espresso
by Johanna A. Klotz 1,Gertrud Winkler 1 andDirk W. Lachenmeier 2,
Excerpt : "It is also interesting to note that the impression can be gained that espresso produced at 80 °C may have been more preferred in the tastings carried out."
I believe in most use cases, for each of them, you would have a fire for warming an old kettle. The nano has the benefit of being able to make a shot without it, but..... You will get that one shot & thats it. Both are unlikely to be used outside of camping..... but the Nano could be used as a lunch time machine for people who work outside, like me..... but Id rather just make my coffee for the day at home in a 6 cup moka & drink it cool from a glass bottle thru the day.
As a camping accessory, I believe both are great devices.... but I would choose the hand pumping Nanopresso, just in case. Power can get used up very quickly with all of our modern gadgets & Id hate for my morning coffee on the last day be not possible due to having overdrawn power during the trip.
=)
That is a good point of you. I think it really depends on the occasion. For a day trip the battery of the Nano probably will be enough, but for multiple days camping maybe it won't be. Then probably for multiple days you probably will have a sort of heating in general. Thanks for sharing you point of you. Very useful!
You get 4 shots if you use the internal heater, about 200(as per the manual) if you use preheated water in the outin.
Thanks for the comparison! I got my self the Outin Nano and so far happy using it with Nespresso pods although the coffee is a bit watery, one question: Do you think it will be ok to make coffee with it in the car while in motion?
That also could depends on how much water you use, I usually use 50ml maximum.
In the car it depends, if you make the coffee while you drive is not very safety. If you are not driving yet is totally fine, that's the beautiful thing about portable espresso makers
By far the best review if you want a barista opinion. :) now I have made the decision.
My issue is the size and weight of the Outin vs possible difficulty in pumping the Picopresso. The Outin is over 700g before coffee and water is in it which is a lot for me to try and lift.
Thanks for the wonderful explanation. I would like to know if I can use the Outin Nano to prepare American coffee because I don't like espresso coffee. First of all, Thanks
My only question is, can I recharge it with my anchor, phone charger five volt
Thanks for this test. I have the nanopresso and I will use for the first time in camping. Today I tried it for the first time with a ratio 8g of coffee for 20g of water and it was really nice and sweet… 😊
I Want to buy the Outin, but i think they dont ship to my country (Argentina)
Hi, Thanks for you interests in our products. Currently, We are unable to ship to your country but we are working on it.
Which one is quieter at 4 AM so I don’t wake up the wife? Which one is $80 dollars cheaper? WACACO NANOPRESSO. No batteries or charging needed. Been realizable over 3 years now. 5 days a week.
I have the outin nano and happy with it. Its perfect for outdoos, for 1 person. I can get 2 decent cups of coffee with it. Then have small portable power bank to recharge it twice, so 6 in total. Full recharge takes 2 hours though, but im ok with that.(depends on the power bank too). Temp is good. Quality of the nano is perfect. Feels very strong. I love it. Priceyes, expensive, but its a gadget too so.. why not?
Thanks for sharing your experience. I usually bring with me preheat water to speed up the heating process and save battery.
@@matteofromtheswamps yes i have pre heated now too in thermos. Good tip. Saves battery.
Are the cups, machine and water container all plastic (inside) ??
Don’t want boiling water with plastic.
The boiler where you put the water in the Outin is stainless steel. Then the inside I don't know because I didn't open it. anyway water never boils, it starts to brew before that point
pico is superior to both but the most manual, but the crema competes with a multi thousand machine. I chose picopresso.
Is 81 Celsius ok?I taught 92 Celsius is the best.
espresso machine usually runs around 92 degrees C so yes, that is temperature correct.
Nice comparison. But now with the Picapresso from Wacaco I'd appreciate your comparative review of the same with the OutIn's contemporary device too. Forgive me for my greed for more and the latest. 😉
You are right to be greedy! The problem is that Picopresso and Outin brew in different ways, so it's hard to compare. They have different ratio, different baskets, different bed depth.
@@matteofromtheswamps so if I had to get just one of Pico and Outin which would you recommend in terms of more balanced tasting espresso overall?
@@CliffLawrence7 The pico has the same problem of the Nanopresso brewing temperaure is not stable. with the outin you have more stability. The Pico use a different way to extract the coffee, very closed to a classic espresso, so it can give you that idea. You can get tasty coffee with all the devices. It really depends on how consistent and able you are to make a good espresso. The Outin can help you to control the temperature and the pressure (because there is no pumping involved.
Outin nano takes a really long time to boil, which is a pain if you're making multiple shots
Friendly fyi, the hard and reflective surfaces in that kitchen really makes the audio hard to concentrate on, it lacks warmth and isn’t easy to listen to.
A separate mic or alternate filming location would help.
Please ensure that you put thermometer at the middle of a cup of water, don’t put it touch a cup. I see you put thermometer to bottom of a cup of water, it’s incorrect for using thermometer, you will get wrong data. However, I can understand OUTIN can extract a coffee with higher temp than Wacaco for sure. 😅
I used the wacaco cup on purpose because it isolates from the external environment. It doesn't change match if you place the probe on the bottom or in the middle in this case. I've done 15 trials before recording on camera.
Wacaco need grinder, kettle, stove
OutIn just need nespresso capsule.
I think outin better choice for travel..
Never had a problem so far with Outin. You can also get a capsule adaptor for Wacaco as well, but yes, you still need something to warm up water.
not fair one is electric one is manual
Picopresso.
How can you have too much balance? 🫠
