Some 20 million US citizens are at risk of being deported or having their citizenship revoked, this as the Trump administration ramps up a process that involves seizing on tiny mistakes made in the application process. Professor Amanda Frost from Washington College of Law tells us that revoking US citizenship is nothing new, but that we are seeing a sharp rise in the numbers involved. As a result, people who have lived in the US for decades, married US citizens and committed no crime find themselves targeted.

These people most likely lied on the forms when they applied.

Not true! I have personally seen typographical errors made by the attorney a friend of mine hired to help her apply for her Green Card. When the attorney entered her information into his system to file the application, he entered "no", instead of "yes" for a couple of questions that she had in fact answered "yes" to on documents she submitted to him, in addition to transposing the numbers of her address. If I hadn't looked things over with her before he submitted her application, his errors would have been submitted, potentially causing a whole mess of problems for her. If you have ever had someone make a typo, or enter the wrong information, or worse, enter SOMEONE ELSE'S information on ANY kind of documentation you needed for something, let alone official government paperwork, you know what a f'kng NIGHTMARE it is to get it straightened out! People have been arrested, had their homes foreclosed on, had their homes torn apart in police raids, died because they were given the wrong medication, been released from jail when they shouldn't have been, all because someone made an error. People make errors all the time. Sometimes, they can be fixed. Sometimes, they can't be fixed.

@@hcwcars1 What does illegal immigration have to do with what we're talking about here? The discussion is about people who came here legally (you CANNOT get on the path to citizenship if you come here illegally), were vetted, did everything they were supposed to do, became citizens, and are now at risk of having their citizenship taken away. It's one thing to lose it for something that you actually DID do, but to lose it because someone else screwed up, and the first time you learn about it is when you're being told you have to leave the country, is a problem, and it's NOT o.k.. And, LOTS of innocent people get hurt, all the time, and it IS our fault, because we don't care, unless it is happening to US.

@@hcwcars1 I am clearly not communicating well. You're talking about illegal immigration, the facts of which you clearly have not educated yourself about, and I'm talking about legal immigrants being at risk of losing their citizenship, because this administration is HELL-BENT on pushing the narrative that "the others" are the reason we have the problems we have in this country. They aren't. Our own ignorance, our messed up system, and our REFUSAL to acknowledge our problems are the reasons we have the problems we have. Fix ourselves. Fix our system. Fix (most of) our problems.
