Losing Its Charm? Citroen C4 Cactus 2018 Review

  • The Citroen C4 Cactus. It made quite a splash when it was first introduced to the world thanks to it bold styling, and of course, those famous airbump panels. It's recently been given a facelift and it's well, a bit toned down. The airbump panels are a lot smaller than before, the looks are more conservative, and it's now a sensible family hatchback as opposed to a quirky crossover. Does that mean it's lost its charm? I tested it recently to find out.
    The model tested here is the range-topping Flair model fitted with the 1.5 litre BlueHDI diesel that pumps out 101hp with 250Nm of torque. This power is fed to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox and you'll be able to hit 62mph in 10 seconds and a top speed of 118mph.

    Test drove one and I didn't want to return it. I am a real sucker for being comfortable. It literally made me smile when I drove it. Quirky, fun and so relaxing. Like it should be.

    The previous model is starting to get a cult following, and holding its value really well, they should have kept the bumps, and made it more like the c3 aircross, more rugged with rear and front humps to give that tough suv look, but this one is extremely smooth, almost on par with premium models.

    I had a real difficult time in 2016 choosing from DS C4, C4 Cactus & C4 hatchback. My salesman represented Peugeot, Ford & Skoda as well. After the dust settled I chose C4 hatchback intensive class (middle) with 130hp automatic. And one test was putting my golf driver down horizontally in the boot. That's what sold me too! Nice review thanks!

    I had a change to drive it, great car, love it. Looks avangant, not your typical Ford or VW.

    It's a great design but it would look much better if it was more SUVish with higher seating position. It looks too hatch-back

    Im a few years late but correct me if I'm wrong, its essentially the same as the mk1 cactus right? So are there not points that you can interchange with either model? Like possibly putting mk1 doors on an mk2 to retain the characterfull bumps it had

    Great review as always. Is the suspension that good ? What was it like when you go over a pothole?

    • @CarObsession
      @CarObsession  Před 5 lety +1

      Hello the links lizard, thanks for watching. Yes, the suspension is very good, although not faultless. It was good over potholes - I still noticed them, but I was never jolted by one.

    Mister, did u sitting in th back seat when u drive? Is a lot of place there, and the car is fantastic too be a car in the low cost, lot lot of options, more than many new BMW!!! And is funny who busy all of u " experts" is about cop holders, hehehe. How many liter water u need? But thanks too u because u know much about this car, and looks u are honest

      Hello Jack, thanks for watching, and thanks for the feedback. No, I obviously do not seat in the back when I drive, but rear space will be an important factor for those looking to buy this car. In regard to how many litres of water I need, the quantity isn't the problem - it's the fact that the cupholders aren't as practical as they could be.

      @@CarObsession Yes, special if they like water, hehe, is funny, all i see who try new cars here is sooooo busy about cop holders, i am more busy about the engine and the options and which car u get for the price u bay, BUT AGIAN, u are clever, u make a very good video about C4 Cactus . Anyway, is not often is 5 adult in a car, the back seat is mostly big enough for 2 kids as family mostly has, and about the room back, we dont drive around the earth, is mostly big enough too have around 400 l; is my experience, thanks again, and i hope see more of u on You Tube

    • @CarObsession

      Cheers Adam, thanks for watching. It seems as if Citroen has shot themselves in the foot a little bit because it had was a car that stood out in its segment (small SUV) and then converted it a hatchback meaning it's now competing in a market where I believe it will be less competitive . However, this is a bit of a necessary change as Citroen has dropped its standard C4 hatcback so the Cactus is kind of deputising until a new C4 Hatch comes along.

    • @bishy33
      @bishy33 Před 5 lety +1

      @@CarObsessionThanks for making that clearer, I'll be honest Aaron I know nothing about this car or the segment it is in, all I do know is that the Cactus was known for it's rugged looks and large air bubble things on the doors which have shrunk down to a pretty much useless token gesture, Citroen have always been a bit oddball, generally in a good way but this car seams to be a bit like a shopping trolley with a wonky wheel and has no real direction?. Will look forward to more reviews :-)

    Expensive for what it is, although I expect Citroen dealers and online sites would offer big discounts

      Hi harveybirdman74, thanks for watching. Yes, I think it's a bit of a silly move, if it was such a necessary feature surely more car manufacturers would be doing it? 🤔
